Abstract: A new heterotetranuclear complex, [{Zn(L)Sm(NO3)3}2(4,4′-bipy)]·2CH3OH, was synthesized via an unsymmetrical single salamo-like ligand H2L: 6-methoxy-6′-ethoxy-2,2′-[ethylenedioxybis(azinomethyl)] diphenol, with Zn(OAc)2·2H2O, Sm(NO3)3·6H2O, and 4,4′-bipyridine by the one-pot method. The [ZnII2–SmIII2] complex was validated via elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) analysis, infrared spectroscopy, and ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) absorption spectroscopy. The X-ray single crystal diffraction analysis of the [ZnII2–SmIII2] complex was carried out via X-ray single-crystal crystallography. The crystal structure and supramolecular features were discussed. In addition, while studying the fluorescence properties of the [ZnII2–SmIII2] complex, the density functional theory (DFT) calculation of its structure was also performed.

Abstract: Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) exposure has been linked to numerous adverse health effects, with some disadvantaged subgroups bearing a disproportionate exposure burden. Few studies have been conducted to estimate the exposure and inequality of different subgroups due to a lack of adequate characterization of disparities in exposure to air pollutants in urban areas, and a mechanistic understanding of the causes of these exposure inequalities. Based on a long-term series of PM2.5 concentrations, this study analyzed the spatial and temporal characteristics of PM2.5 in 31 provincial capital cities of China from 2000 to 2016 using the coefficient of variation and trend analyses. A health risk assessment of human exposure to PM2.5 from 2000 to 2016 was then undertaken. A cumulative population-weighted average concentration method was applied to investigate exposures and inequality for education level, job category, age, gender and income population subgroups. The relationships between socioeconomic factors and PM2.5 exposure concentrations were quantified using the geographically and temporally weighted regression model (GTWR). Results indicate that the PM2.5 concentrations in most of the capital cities in the study experienced an increasing trend at a rate of 0.98 μg m−3 per year from 2000 to 2016. The proportion of the population exposed to high PM2.5 (above 35 μg m−3) increased annually, mainly due to the increase of population migrating into north, east, south and central China. The higher educated, older, higher income and urban secondary industry share (SIS) subgroups suffered from the most significant environmental inequality, respectively. The per capita GDP, population size, and the share of the secondary industry played an essential role in unequal exposure to PM2.5.

Abstract: Nutrient patterns can significantly influence the growth and development of fruit trees, especially fruit quality. In order to clarify the appropriate ratio of inorganic and organic fertilizers, six treatments with different ratios of cow manure and chemical fertilizers were set up in this study to evaluate the effects of different treatments on fruit yield, appearance quality, intrinsic quality and volatile substances. The results showed that, after replacing some chemical fertilizers with cow manure, the content of sugar, titratable acid, organic acid and aroma substance in the fruit increased, the fruit yield and colour did not change significantly, and the fruit weight per fruit decreased. Among the treatments of cow manure with chemical fertilizer, the fruits of 50% chemical fertilizer with 50% cow manure treatment had higher titratable acid (0.4%), malic acid (4.15 mg/g), sorbitol (0.51%), glucose (1.30%), fructose (5.81%) content and total aroma substance content (1047.82 μg/g) than chemical fertilizer alone. Compared to the fertilizer treatment alone, the application of cow manure instead of 50% of the chemical fertilizer had a positive effect on fruit quality.

Abstract: To identify false-positive SARS-CoV-2 test results caused by novel coronavirus inactivated vaccine contamination, a novel RT-qPCR targeting the ORF1ab and N genes of SARS-CoV-2 and Vero gene was developed. The amplification efficiency, precision, and lower limit of detection (LLOD) of the RT-qPCR assay were determined. A total of 346 clinical samples and 132 environmental samples were assessed, and the diagnostic performance was evaluated. The results showed that the amplification efficiency of the ORF1ab, N, and Vero genes was 95%, 97%, and 93%, respectively. The coefficients of variation of Ct values at a concentration of 3 × 104 copies/mL were lower than 5%. The LLOD for the ORF1ab, N, and Vero genes reached 8.0, 3.3, and 8.2 copies/reaction, respectively. For the 346 clinical samples, our RT-qPCR assay identified SARS-CoV-2-positive and SARS-CoV-2-negative samples with a sensitivity of 100.00% and a specificity of 99.30% and novel coronavirus inactivated vaccine-contaminated samples with a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 100%. For the environmental samples, our RT-qPCR assay identified novel coronavirus inactivated vaccine-contaminated samples with a sensitivity of 88.06% and a specificity of 95.38%. In conclusion, the RT-qPCR assay we established can be used to diagnose COVID-19 and, to a certain extent, false-positive results due to vaccine contamination.

Abstract: Background: Extensive knowledge of allergic multimorbidities is required to improve the management of allergic diseases with the industrialization of China. However, the demography and allergen distribution patterns of allergic multimorbidities in China remain unclear, despite the increasing prevalence of allergies. Methods: This was a real-world, cross-sectional study of 1273 outpatients diagnosed with one or more allergic diseases in Guangzhou, the most populated city of southern China, with leading industrial and commercial centers, between April 2021 and March 2022. Seven allergic diseases (allergic rhinitis (AR), asthma (AS)/cough variant asthma (CVA), atopic dermatitis (AD)/eczema, food allergy (FA), allergic conjunctivitis (AC), drug allergy (DA), and anaphylaxis) were assessed. Positive rates of sensitization to different allergens were measured using an allergen detection system of the UniCAP (Pharmacia Diagnostics, Sweden) instrument platform to compare the groups of allergic multimorbidities against a single entity. Results: There were 659 (51.8%) males and 614 (48.2%) females aged from 4 months to 74 years included in the analysis. The study participants who were diagnosed with allergic diseases had an average of 1.6 diagnoses. Overall, 46.5% (592 of 1273) of the patients had more than one allergic condition, and allergic rhinitis was the most common type of multimorbidity. Women were more likely to suffer from an allergic disease alone, whereas allergic multimorbidities were more likely to be diagnosed in men (p = 0.005). In addition, allergic multimorbidities were common in all age groups, with an incidence ranging from 37.1% to 57.4%, in which children and adolescents were more frequently diagnosed with allergic multimorbidities than adults (18–60 years old) (all p 〈 0.05). Allergic multimorbidity was observed throughout the year. A difference in the positive rate of allergens sensitization and total immunoglobulin E (tIgE) levels between different allergic multimorbidities was observed. Conclusions: Allergic multimorbidities were very commonly found in nearly half of all patients with allergies. The proportion of allergic multimorbidities varied with the type of disease, sex, age, and allergen distribution pattern. These findings may help clinicians to develop “One health” strategies for the clinical management of allergic diseases.

    In: Viruses, MDPI AG, Vol. 15, No. 4 ( 2023-04-19), p. 1004-
Abstract: Human adenovirus species C (HAdV-C) is frequently detected in China and worldwide. For the first time, 16 HAdV-C strains were isolated from sewage water (14 strains) and hospitalised children with diarrhoea (2 strains,) in Tianjin, China. Nearly complete genome data were successfully obtained for these viruses. Subsequently, genomic and bioinformatics analyses of the 16 HAdV-C strains were performed. A phylogenetic tree of the complete HAdV-C genome divided these strains into three types: HAdV-C1, HAdV-C2, HAdV-C5. Phylogenetic analysis based on the fiber gene showed similar outcomes to analyses of the hexon gene and complete HAdV-C genomes, whereas the penton gene sequences showed more variation than previously reported. Furthermore, analysis of the whole-genome sequencing revealed seven recombination patterns transmitted in Tianjin, of which at least four patterns have not been previously reported. However, the penton base gene sequences of the HAdV-C species had significantly lower heterogeneity than those of the hexon and fiber gene sequences of recombinant isolates; that is, many strains were distinct in origin, but shared hexon and fiber genes. These data illustrate the importance of frequent recombination in the complexity of the HAdV-C epidemic in Tianjin, thus emphasising the necessity for HAdV-C sewage and virological monitoring in China.

Abstract: Fifteen polyketides, including four new compounds, isoversiol F (1), decumbenone D (2), palitantin B (7), and 1,3-di-O-methyl-norsolorinic acid (8), along with 11 known compounds (3–6 and 9–15), were isolated from the deep-sea-derived fungus Aspergillus versicolor SH0105. Their structures and absolute configurations were determined by comprehensive spectroscopic data, including 1D and 2D NMR, HRESIMS, and ECD calculations, and it is the first time to determine the absolute configuration of known decumbenone A (6). All of these compounds were evaluated for their antimicrobial activities against four human pathogenic microbes and five fouling bacterial strains. The results indicated that 3,7-dihydroxy-1,9-dimethyldibenzofuran (14) displayed obvious inhibitory activity against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 27154) with the MIC value of 13.7 μM. In addition, the antioxidant assays of the isolated compounds revealed that aspermutarubrol/violaceol-I (15) exhibited significant 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity with the IC50 value of 34.1 μM, and displayed strong reduction of Fe3+ with the ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) value of 9.0 mM under the concentration of 3.1 μg/mL, which were more potent than ascorbic acid.

Abstract: The continued increase in greenhouse gas emissions as a result of unprecedented eutrophication has resulted in a rising trend of red tides in the sea, which may be responsible for ecological degradation in the surrounding environment. Studies rarely investigate the accurate concentration of seawater eutrophication substances in offshore aquaculture areas, which may lead to the exacerbated pollution of inshore aquaculture. We examined whether offshore seawater quality monitoring can be effectively performed through unmanned aerial vehicles’ (UAVs) airborne hyperspectral remote sensing technique at Jiaozhou Bay, a water body associated with eutrophication. We used the UAV airborne hyperspectral imager to detect and measure typical marine aquaculture areas in Jiaozhou Bay and selected the key parameters of seawater quality, chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) concentrations, and total suspended matter (TSM) concentrations as indicators of seawater eutrophication. The hyperspectral inversion model of the Jiaozhou Bay seawater (JZBZ) was established with the optimal sensitive band of parameters. Results showed that in comparison with the traditional inversion model, the inversion R2 of the Chl-a was 0.712, the RPD was 3.72, and the inversion R2 of the TSM concentration was 0.756 while the RPD was 5.83. We found that this model is more suitable for the retrieval of water color parameters in Jiaozhou Bay. Additionally, by actual measurement, it can be seen that the concentration ranges of Chl-a in the observation area are 0.380–1.74 mg/m3, and the concentration range of TSM is 12.6–131 mg/L. The results of this study indicate that the Jiaozhou Bay Water Quality Translation Model (JZBM), based on the UAV airborne hyperspectral imager, performs well in the inversion of the concentration of chlorophyll and suspended particulate matter in offshore water, which advances our understanding with a new method to assess the degree of eutrophication in coastal waters.

Abstract: A polarized micropulse lidar (P-MPL) employing a pulsed laser at 532 nm was developed by the Institute of Oceanographic Instrumentation, Qilu University of Technology (Shandong Academy of Sciences). The optomechanical structure, technical parameters, detection principle, overlap factor calculation method, and inversion methods of the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) depth and depolarization ratio (DR) were introduced. Continuous observations using the P-MPL were carried out at Xi’an Meteorological Bureau, and the observation data were analyzed. In this study, we gleaned much information on aerosols and clouds, including the temporal and spatial variation of aerosols and clouds, aerosol extinction coefficient, DR, and the structure of ABL were obtained by the P-MPL. The variation of aerosols and clouds before and after a short rainfall was analyzed by combining time-height-indication (THI) of range corrected signal (RCS) and DR was obtained by the P-MPL with profiles of potential temperature (PT) and relative humidity (RH) detected by GTS1 Digital Radiosonde. Then, the characteristics of tropopause cirrus cloud were discussed using the data of DR, PT, and RH. Finally, a haze process from January 1st to January 5th was studied by using aerosol extinction coefficients obtained by the P-MPL, PT, and RH profiles measured by GTS1 Digital Radiosonde and the time-varying of PM2.5 and PM10 observed by ambient air quality monitor. The source of the haze was simulated by using the NOAA HYSPLIT Trajectory Model.
