Abstract: The effects of soil and topography on the responses of soil respiration (Rs) to climatic variables must be investigated in the southeastern mountainous areas of China due to the rapid land-use change from forest to agriculture. In this study, we investigated the response of Rs to soil temperature (ST), precipitation over the previous seven days (AP7), and soil water content (SWC) across two hillslopes that had different land uses: a tea garden (TG) and a bamboo forest (BF). Meanwhile, the roles of soil properties including soil clay content and total nitrogen (TN), and topography including elevation, profile curvature (PRC), and slope on the different responses of Rs to these climatic variables were investigated. Results showed that mean Rs on the BF hillslope (2.21 umol C m−2 s−1) was 1.71 times of that on the TG hillslope (1.29 umol C m−2 s−1). Soil clay content, elevation, and PRC had negative correlations (p 〈 0.05) with spatial variation of Rs, and ST was positively correlated (p 〈 0.01) with temporal variation of Rs on both hillslopes. Across both hillslopes ST explained 33%–73% and AP7 explained 24%–38% of the temporal variations in Rs. The mean temperature sensitivities (Q10s) of Rs were 2.02 and 3.22, respectively, on the TG and BF hillslopes. The Q10 was positively correlated (p 〈 0.05) with the temporal mean of SWC and TN, and negatively correlated (p 〈 0.05) with clay and slope. The mean AP7 sensitivities (a concept similar to Q10) were greatly affected by clay and PRC. When Rs was normalized to that at 10 °C, power or quadratic relationships between Rs and SWC were observed in different sites, and the SWC explained 12%–32% of the temporal variation in Rs. When ST and SWC were integrated and considered, improved explanations (45%–81%) were achieved for the Rs temporal variation. In addition, clay and elevation had vital influences on the responses of Rs to SWC. These results highlight the influences of soil, topographic features, and land use on the spatial variations of the Rs, as well as on the responses of Rs to different climatic variables, which will supplement the understanding of controlling mechanisms of Rs on tea and bamboo land-use types in Southeastern China.

    In: Remote Sensing, MDPI AG, Vol. 12, No. 18 ( 2020-09-15), p. 3000-
Abstract: The carbon sequestration capacity of wetland vegetation determines carbon stocks and changes in wetlands. However, modeling vegetation carbon sequestration of herbaceous wetlands is still problematic due to complex hydroecological processes and rapidly changing biomass carbon stocks. Theoretically, a vegetation index (VI) time series can retrieve the dynamic of biomass carbon stocks and could be used to calculate the cumulative composite of biomass carbon stocks during a given interval, i.e., vegetation carbon sequestration. Hence, we explored the potential for mapping vegetation carbon sequestration in herbaceous wetlands in this study by using a combination of remotely sensed VI time series and field observation data. This method was exemplarily applied for Poyang Lake wetland in 2016 by using a 16-day Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) enhanced vegetation index (EVI) time series. Results show that the vegetation carbon sequestration in this area was in the range of 193–1221 g C m−2 year−1 with a mean of 401 g C m−2 year−1 and a standard deviation of 172 g C m−2 year−1 in 2016. The approach has wider spatial applicability in wetlands than the currently used global map of vegetation production (MOD17A3) because our carbon estimation in areas depicted by ‘no data’ in the MOD17A3 product is considerable, which accounts for 91.2–91.5% of the total vegetation carbon sequestration of the wetland. Thus, we determined that VI time series data shows great potential for estimating vegetation carbon sequestration in herbaceous wetlands, especially with the continuously improving quality and frequency of satellite VI images.

Abstract: In recent decades, the land use patterns in the Taihu Lake Basin (TLB) have undergone tremendous change. Assessing the response of land surface hydrological processes caused by land use change is conducive to basin water resource management and the prevention of urban flooding. The water yield under different land use scenarios in 1985, 1995, 2000, 2005, and 2010 were calculated by the STREAM model. During the study period of 1985–2010, the contribution of farmland to the total water yield decreased from 47.20% to 35.2%. The contribution of construction land to the total water yield increased from 10.50% to 25.82%. There was a significant spatial difference in the growth of the water yield in 1985–2010. The Pudong sub-region, Puxi sub-region, Yangchengdianmao sub-region, and the Wuchengxiyu sub-region, with relatively faster urban development, also had higher water yield growth rates. During the study period, the growth rate of water yields in towns showed a spatial clustering feature. MI increased from 0.22 to 0.38, indicating that this spatial clustering feature had an increasing trend. The results of an LISA analysis showed that there was a significant spatial difference in the growth rate of water yield in the TLB. The high growth centers are mainly located in the north of the basin, while the low growth centers are mainly located in the southwest of the basin. At the same time, the center of the high growth rate of water yield showed a certain trend of expansion and transfer. Regression analysis showed that urban development had a significant impact on water yield; for every increase of 1 km2 of construction land in the TLB, there was an increase of water yield of more than 300,000 m3. Further study indicated that the growth of local water production in TLB was much higher than the average value of the basin, and it was significantly related to the gross domestic product (GDP) per capita.

Abstract: The electro-hydraulic servo pump control system (EHSPCS) is a high-performance control unit that integrates a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) and a closed hydraulic system (CHS). The design features of high integration and a high power-weight ratio lead to the poor heat dissipation capacity and high thermal balance temperature of the system. Excessive temperature will seriously affect the system’s performance and service life. Therefore, the thermal balance analysis method of the EHSPCS under different loads and different wind speeds was proposed in this paper. Firstly, the PMSM and CHS were taken as research objects to analyze the heating source of the system. The thermal power model was established, and the calculation was performed. The variation rule of the thermal power generated by each component with the load torque under the typical rotating speed was obtained. Secondly, the system’s temperature field thermal balance solution model was established. ANSYS and AMESim software were used to calculate the thermal balance points of the PMSM and CHS under different working conditions. The change rule of the thermal balance temperature field of the EHSPCS under different loads was analyzed with the conditions of the natural cooling and forced wind cooling of the PMSM. Finally, an experimental platform was built for experimental research, and the experimental temperature of the system under different loads and different wind speeds was measured. Through comparison and analysis with the simulation results, the correctness and feasibility of the thermal balance theoretical analysis method were verified. The research results will lay the foundation for thermal balance research on the EHSPCS, and have guiding significance for system design, component selection, and load matching.

Abstract: The electro-hydraulic servo pump control system (EHSPCS) is a volume control system that uses a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with a fixed displacement pump to directly drive and control the hydraulic cylinder. The energy transmission law of the system is very complicated due to the transformation of electrical, mechanical and hydraulic energy as well as other energy fields, and qualitative analysis of the energy transfer efficiency is difficult. Energy transfer analysis of the EHSPCS under different working conditions and loads is proposed in this paper. First, the energy flow transfer mechanism was analyzed, and the mathematical and energy transfer models of the key components of the system were established to explore the energy characteristic state transition rule. Second, a power bond diagram model was built, its state equation and state matrix were deduced, and a system simulation model was built. Finally, combined with the EHSPCS experimental platform, simulation experiments were carried out on the dynamic position following and steady-state position holding conditions of the system, and the variation rules of the power of each energy characteristic state and the system energy transfer efficiency under different loads were obtained. The research results provide a foundation for the study of power matching and energy-saving mechanism of the EHSPCS.
