    Abstract: The Green Peafowl (Pavo muticus) is vulnerable to anthropogenic pressures and has undergone an extensive decline through much of its range in Southeast Asia. However, little is known about the changing distribution of Green Peafowl in China through historical periods. We described a 5000–6000 years distribution change of Green Peafowl in China by using historical archives. We examined the present distributions of Green Peafowl by using camera traps and transect surveys and predicted the suitable habitat to support future conservation planning for this species. Although Green Peafowl was once widely distributed across China, the species experienced a southward range retreat over the past 5000–6000 years and is now restricted to a small part of Yunnan. The results of prediction from maximum entropy modeling (MaxEnt) showed that the size of suitable habitat of Green Peafowl in Yunnan was 17,132 km2. The suitable habitat concentrated in nine prefectures of Yunnan and Pu’er, Chuxiong, and Yuxi accounted for 48.64%, 27.39% and 15.83%, respectively. These results suggest that central Yunnan can cover most of the current larger and more contiguous populations of Green Peafowl in China and should be protected. Moreover, some areas in southern Yunnan, such as Xishuangbanna, can be a candidate for reestablishing populations, given that the species disappeared in this region less than 20 years ago and has a large remaining habitat.

    Abstract: Laser shock peening (LSP) is an innovative and promising surface strengthening technique of metallic materials. The LSP-induced plastic deformation, the compressive residual stresses and the microstructure evolution are essentially attributed to the laser plasma-induced shock wave. A three-dimensional finite element model in conjunction with the dislocation density-based constitutive model was developed to simulate the LSP of pure Al correlating with the LSP-induced shock wave, and the predicted in-depth residual stresses are in reasonable agreement with the experiment results. The LSP-induced shock wave associated with the laser spot diameter of 8.0 mm propagates in the form of the plane wave, and attenuates exponentially. At the same time, the propagation and attenuation of the LSP-induced shock wave associated with the laser spot diameter of 0.8 mm are in the form of the spherical wave. The reflection of the LSP-induced shock wave at the bottom surface of the target model increases the plastic deformation of the target bottom, resulting in the increase of dislocation density and the decrease of dislocation cell size accordingly. Reducing the target thickness can significantly increase the reflection times of the LSP-induced shock wave at the bottom and top surfaces of the target model, which is considered to be conductive to the generation of the compressive residual stress field and grain refinement.

    Abstract: Lateral branch angle (LBA), or branch habit, is one of the most important agronomic traits in peanut. To date, the underlying molecular mechanisms of LBA have not been elucidated in peanut. To acquire the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) related to LBA, a TI population was constructed through the hybridization of a bunch-type peanut variety Tifrunner and prostrate-type Ipadur. We report the identification of DEGs related to LBA by sequencing two RNA pools, which were composed of 45 F3 lines showing an extreme opposite bunch and prostrate phenotype. We propose to name this approach Bulk RNA-sequencing (BR-seq) as applied to several plant species. Through BR-seq analysis, a total of 3083 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified, including 13 gravitropism-related DEGs, 22 plant hormone-related DEGs, and 55 transcription factors-encoding DEGs. Furthermore, we also identified commonly expressed alternatively spliced (AS) transcripts, of which skipped exon (SE) and retained intron (RI) were most abundant in the prostrate and bunch-type peanut. AS isoforms between prostrate and bunch peanut highlighted important clues to further understand the post-transcriptional regulatory mechanisms of branch angle regulation. Our findings provide not only important insights into the landscape of the regulatory pathway involved in branch angle formation but also present practical information for peanut molecular breeding in the future.

    Abstract: C-type lectins (CTLs) are a class of proteins containing carbohydrate recognition domains (CRDs), which are characteristic modules that recognize various glycoconjugates and function primarily in immunity. CTLs have been reported to affect growth and development and positively regulate innate immunity in Tribolium castaneum. However, the regulatory mechanisms of TcCTL16 proteins are still unclear. Here, spatiotemporal analyses displayed that TcCTL16 was highly expressed in late pupae and early adults. TcCTL16 RNA interference in early larvae shortened their body length and narrowed their body width, leading to the death of 98% of the larvae in the pupal stage. Further analysis found that the expression level of muscle-regulation-related genes, including cut, vestigial, erect wing, apterous, and spalt major, and muscle-composition-related genes, including Myosin heavy chain and Myosin light chain, were obviously down-regulated after TcCTL16 silencing in T. castaneum. In addition, the transcription of TcCTL16 was mainly distributed in the hemolymph. TcCTL16 was significantly upregulated after challenges with lipopolysaccharides, peptidoglycans, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus. Recombinant CRDs of TcCTL16 bind directly to the tested bacteria (except Bacillus subtilis); they also induce extensive bacterial agglutination in the presence of Ca2+. On the contrary, after TcCTL16 silencing in the late larval stage, T. castaneum were able to develop normally. Moreover, the transcript levels of seven antimicrobial peptide genes (attacin2, defensins1, defensins2, coleoptericin1, coleoptericin2, cecropins2, and cecropins3) and one transcription factor gene (relish) were significantly increased under E. coli challenge and led to an increased survival rate of T. castaneum when infected with S. aureus or E. coli, suggesting that TcCTL16 deficiency could be compensated for by increasing AMP expression via the IMD pathways in T. castaneum. In conclusion, this study found that TcCTL16 could be involved in developmental regulation in early larvae and compensate for the loss of CTL function by regulating the expression of AMPs in late larvae, thus laying a solid foundation for further studies on T. castaneum CTLs.

    Abstract: Multiple station passenger flow prediction is crucial but challenging for intelligent transportation systems. Recently, deep learning models have been widely applied in multi-station passenger flow prediction. However, flows at the same station in different periods, or different stations in the same period, always present different characteristics. These indicate that globally extracting spatio-temporal features for multi-station passenger flow prediction may only be powerful enough to achieve the excepted performance for some stations. Therefore, a novel two-step multi-station passenger flow prediction model is proposed. First, an unsupervised clustering method for station classification using pure passenger flow is proposed based on the Transformer encoder and K-Means. Two novel evaluation metrics are introduced to verify the effectiveness of the classification results. Then, based on the classification results, a passenger flow prediction model is proposed for every type of station. Residual network (ResNet) and graph convolution network (GCN) are applied for spatial feature extraction, and attention long short-term memory network (AttLSTM) is used for temporal feature extraction. Integrating results for every type of station creates a prediction model for all stations in the network. Experiments are conducted on two real-world ridership datasets. The proposed model performs better than unclassified results in multi-station passenger flow prediction.

    Abstract: The Xiong’an New Area is one of the areas with the richest geothermal resources in the east-central part of China. However, the genesis of the geothermal water in Jixianian carbonate reservoirs in this area is still unclear. This study conducted systematical geochemical and isotopic analyses of the geothermal water in the Jixianian carbonate reservoirs in the Rongcheng geothermal field and summed up the genetic mechanisms of geothermal fluids in deep geothermal reservoirs. The results are as follows: the geothermal water in the study area has a hydrochemical type of Cl·HCO3-Na and originates from meteoric water in the Taihang Mountains. The age of the geothermal water increases from 22 ka in the west to 45 ka in the east, and its transport rate is approximately 1.02 m/a. The Sr concentration and 87Sr/86Sr ratio of the geothermal fluids increase along their runoff direction and are related to the dissolution and filtration of minerals such as dolomite and gypsum and the decay of 87Rb in the Earth’s crust. The geothermal water is involved in deep circulation and occurs in a closed system. These results are consistent with those obtained using the PHREEQC inverse model. The reverse hydrogeochemical simulation results exhibited the precipitation of gypsum and halite, the dissolution of anorthite and quartz, and desulfurization. The geothermal reservoir temperatures were estimated to be 92–113 °C using a SiO2 geothermometer, and the thermal groundwater may have undergone deep circulation, with a prolonged retention time. Moreover, the groundwater occurs in a closed environment, strong water-rock interactions occur between the groundwater and related minerals, and the groundwater absorbs the heat from the deep heat source, thus forming geothermal water.

    Abstract: There has been notable depletion of groundwater resources globally in recent decades. Groundwater can be conserved by ecological water replenishment. An understanding of the factors influencing the effect of ecological water replenishment on groundwater recharge is of great significance for water resource management. This study used the improved water table fluctuation and water equilibrium method and Spearman correlation analysis in R to evaluate the effect of ecological water replenishment on groundwater recharge. Furthermore, the correlations between groundwater recharge and topography, hydrogeological conditions, and meteorological factors were analyzed. Groundwater storage in the plain area of the Yongding River (Beijing section) increased by 2.17 × 108 m3 in 2020, equating to an increase in the regional groundwater level of 73.6% (increase of 0.1–9.1 m, arithmetic mean of 2.3 m). The main sources of groundwater recharge are ecological water replenishment and precipitation. The ecological water replenishment first recharged the Ordovician limestone aquifer in the gorge area, following which karst water overflowed through the fault zone to resupply the Quaternary groundwater in the plain area, resulting in a lag in the groundwater recharge effect. Groundwater recharge was positively correlated with ground elevation and aquifer permeability and negatively correlated with the thickness of Quaternary strata and the distance between the recharge point and Yongdinghe fault zone. This study can help to better explain the effect and impact of ecological water replenishment on groundwater resource recharge and its implications for improving ecological water replenishment projects.

    Abstract: It is important to determine the hydraulic boundary eigenvalues of typical embankment breaches before carrying out research on their occurrence mechanisms and assessing their repair technology. However, it is difficult to obtain the hydraulic boundary conditions of the typical levee breaches accurately with minor or incomplete measured data due to the complexity and instability of the levee breach. Based on more than 100 groups of domestic and foreign test data of embankment/earth dam failures, the correlation between the hydraulic boundary eigenvalues of a breach was established based on the cluster analysis approach. Additionally, the missing values were imputed after correlating and fitting. Meanwhile, the hydraulic boundary parameters and the related equations of a generalized typical breach were obtained through the statistical analysis of the probability density of the dimensionless eigenvalues of the breach. The analysis showed that the width of the breach mainly ranges in 20~100 m, while the water head of the breach is 4~12 m, and the velocity of the breach is 2~8 m/s. The distribution probabilities of all them are about 64~71%. The probability density of the width-to-depth ratio and the Froude number of the breach are both subject to normal distribution characteristics. The distribution frequency of the width-to-depth ratio of 3~8 is approximately 55%, and the Froude number of 0.4~0.8 is approximately 60%. These methods and findings might provide valuable support for the statistical research of the boundary and hydraulic characteristics of the breach, and the closure technology of breach.

    Abstract: The effects of acoustic frequency (f)/0–400 Hz and amplitude (A)/0–1400 Pa on nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions of a partially premixed flame were investigated experimentally. The mechanism of NOx emissions was analyzed by the evolution of the vortex, which was shown by particle image velocimetry (PIV). From the relationship of NOx emission index (EINOx) and acoustic parameters, it was concluded that a critical frequency (fc) from 170 Hz to 190 Hz appeared. When the frequency was less than fc, EINOx decreased linearly with an increase in amplitude. The flame length became shorter, which led to a decrease in the global residence time, and hence, a reduction in reaction time for NOx. However, a direct proportional relationship between EINOx and amplitude was not found when the frequency was larger than fc. Based on PIV particle scattering images, with an increase of the acoustic frequency, the effects of the acoustic field on the flame base became less significant, but the flame length and reaction space of NOx were gradually increased.

    Abstract: Concrete is prepared by substituting an equal volume of fly ash for fine aggregate, and the effect of substitution rate on its carbonation resistance is studied. Using a rapid carbonation test, the distribution law of the internal pH value of concrete with fly ash as fine aggregate (CFA) along the carbonation depth under different substitution rates (10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%) after carbonation is studied and compared with the test results of phenolphthalein solution. Then, to further clarify the damage mechanism of fly ash replacing fine aggregate on concrete carbonation, the changes in the pore structure and micromorphology of CFA after carbonation are studied by means of mercury intrusion pressure and electron microscope scanning tests. The results indicate that the carbonation depth of CFA increases gradually with increasing carbonation time. In particular, in the later stage of carbonation, the carbonation rate of concrete decreases significantly with an increase in the substitution rate. The carbonation depth XC of CFA measured by phenolphthalein solution is approximately 0.24–0.39 times of the complete noncarbonation depth measured by the pH method. The pH value test is a reliable test method that can reveal the carbonation mechanism of CFA. Carbonation can significantly reduce the proportion of more harmful holes in concrete with a large amount of fly ash, but it can also increase the proportion of less harmful and harmful holes. In general, the pore size distribution and micromorphology of concrete can be improved by replacing fine aggregates with fly ash.
