    Abstract: The Lightning Mapping Imager (LMI) onboard the Fengyun-4A (FY-4A) satellite is the first independently developed satellite-borne lightning imager in China. It enables continuous lightning detection in China and surrounding areas, regardless of weather conditions. The FY-4A LMI uses a Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) array for lightning detection, and the accuracy of lightning positioning is influenced by cloud top height (CTH). In this study, we proposed an ellipsoid CTH parallax correction (ECPC) model for lightning positioning applicable to FY-4A LMI. The model utilizes CTH data from the Advanced Geosynchronous Radiation Imager (AGRI) on FY-4A to correct the lightning positioning data. According to the model, when the CTH is 12 km, the maximum deviation in lightning positioning caused by CTH in Beijing is approximately 0.1177° in the east–west direction and 0.0530° in the north–south direction, corresponding to a horizontal deviation of 13.1558 km, which exceeds the size of a single ground detection unit of the geostationary satellite lightning imager. Therefore, it is necessary to be corrected. A comparison with data from the Beijing Broadband Lightning Network (BLNET) and radar data shows that the corrected LMI data exhibit spatial distribution that is closer to the simultaneous BLNET lightning positioning data. The coordinate differences between the two datasets are significantly reduced, indicating higher consistency with radar data. The correction algorithm decreases the LMI lightning location deviation caused by CTH, thereby improving the accuracy and reliability of satellite lightning positioning data. The proposed ECPC model can be used for the real-time correction of lightning data when CTH is obtained at the same time, and it can be also used for the post-correction of space-based lightning detection with other cloud top height data.

    Abstract: Soybean is an important crop that is grown worldwide. Flowering time is a critical agricultural trait determining successful reproduction and yields. For plants, light and temperature are important environmental factors that regulate flowering time. Soybean is a typical short-day (SD) plant, and many studies have elucidated the fine-scale mechanisms of how soybean responds to photoperiod. Low temperature can delay the flowering time of soybean, but little is known about the detailed mechanism of how temperature affects soybean flowering. In this study, we isolated GmFLC-like from soybean, which belongs to the FLOWERING LOCUS C clade of the MADS-box family and is intensely expressed in soybean leaves. Heterologous expression of GmFLC-like results in a delayed-flowering phenotype in Arabidopsis. Additional experiments revealed that GmFLC-like is involved in long-term low temperature-triggered late flowering by inhibiting FT gene expression. In addition, yeast one-hybrid, dual-luciferase reporter assay, and electrophoretic mobility shift assay revealed that the GmFLC-like protein could directly repress the expression of FT2a by physically interacting with its promoter region. Taken together, our results revealed that GmFLC-like functions as a floral repressor involved in flowering time during treatments with various low temperature durations. As the only the FLC gene in soybean, GmFLC-like was meaningfully retained in the soybean genome over the course of evolution, and this gene may play an important role in delaying flowering time and providing protective mechanisms against sporadic and extremely low temperatures.

    Abstract: Conventional circulating current (CC) control schemes of the modular multilevel converters (MMC) typically suppress the CC to zero to reduce the system loss. However, the non-zero CC can also bring additional benefits. In this paper, a peak arm current minimization method of the MMC using multiple circulating current injection control (MCCIC) is studied. Specifically, the second-order CC (SOCC) and the fourth-order CC (FOCC) are used to achieve this purpose. Firstly, the amplitude and phase angle of the SOCC are determined to shape the arm current into a saddle wave. Next, the amplitude and the phase angle of the FOCC are studied to further cut flat the crest of the saddle wave to minimize the peak arm current. The feasibility boundary for the proposed strategy is discussed quantitatively. Moreover, a decoupling circulating current control strategy is developed for precise control of the SOCC and FOCC. In the end, the proposed techniques are verified via both PSCAD/EMTDC simulation and RTLAB & RTU-BOX hardware-in-the-loop experiment. The results show that the peak arm current of the MMC operating with high power factors can be reduced by about 23% and its power handling capacity can be increased by about 30%.

    Abstract: Background: Adiposity is closely related to osteoarthritis, but the causal effects of different types of adiposity on osteoarthritis are indistinct. This study conducted a Mendelian Randomization (MR) analysis for the causal effects of general adiposity and abdominal adiposity on knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and hip osteoarthritis (HOA). Methods: The general adiposity was assessed by body mass index (BMI), while the abdominal adiposity was evaluated with waist circumference (WC), hip circumference (HC), and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR). The data used in this two-sample MR analysis originated from genome-wide association studies (GWAS). Significant (p 〈 5 × 10−8) and independent (r2 〈 0.01) single-nucleotide polymorphisms were selected as instrumental variables for the MR analysis. Subsequently, this study used the inverse variance weighted, weighted median, and other methods for the causal inference, and the results were presented as odds ratios (OR). Moreover, sensitivity analyses were conducted to assess the stability and reliability of the results. Results: The MR results revealed positive causal effects of BMI on KOA (OR: 1.694; 95% CI: from 1.492 to 1.923; p = 3.96 × 10−16) and HOA (OR: 1.412; 95% CI: from 1.196 to 1.666; p = 4.58 × 10−5). Additionally, WC and HC both positively and causally related to KOA (WC: OR: 1.827; 95% CI: from 1.564 to 2.134; p = 2.68 × 10−14; HC: OR: 1.610; 95% CI: from 1.357 to 1.912; p = 5.03 × 10−8) and HOA (WC: OR: 1.491; 95% CI: from 1.254 to 1.772; p = 5.85 × 10−6; HC: OR: 1.439; 95% CI: from 1.205 to 1.719; p = 5.82 × 10−5). However, no causal relationship existed between WHR and obesity. These results were robust according to the sensitivity analyses. Conclusions: This study indicated that both general and abdominal obesity had positive causal effects on knee osteoarthritis and hip osteoarthritis.
