Abstract: In blasting operation, some undesirable impacts, such as fly-rock, fragmentation, and back break, are induced. If the blasting design is not optimized, these mentioned impacts would reduce the blasting efficiency. To improve and optimize the blast design, blasting effect evaluation is essential. Due to the complexity of interactions among blasting parameters, empirical methods may not be appropriate for blast design optimization. A two-level mathematical model based on fuzzy mathematics, is proposed in this work. In total, 11 typical parameters were chosen and classified into three groups. The blasting effect is evaluated from three aspects, and then the comprehensive evaluation is given. A blasting effect evaluation system was developed based on the mentioned method on the platform of VC++. Some other techniques, such as image processing, were integrated into the system, which allowed for obtaining all of the parameters rapidly and conveniently. The system was applied in practical bench blast engineering. The results obtained from the system can provide effective information for the optimization of the next blast design.

Abstract: Soil moisture content (SMC) is an important factor affecting crop growth. Based on the field SMC data measured at the Wudaogou experimental station from 1989 to 2019, two typical crop types, wheat and maize, were selected. By combining the groundwater depth, crop growth period, and meteorological factors in the same period, and using classical statistics and redundant analysis (RDA) methods, the characteristics and influencing factors of SMC changes in vertical profiles of different crops were compared and analyzed. The results showed that the SMC and average daily water storage of wheat were greater than that of maize. The crop growth mainly consumed 0–60 cm SMC. The SMC in this area was moderately variable; the SMC of 0–30 cm belongs to the active layer, and the SMC of 30–100 cm belongs to the sub-active layer. The RDA method identified ground temperature, groundwater depth, relative humidity, and the wheat growing period as the main factors affecting soil moisture variation in wheat fields; groundwater depth, relative humidity, and water vapor pressure differences were the main factors affecting soil moisture variation in maize fields. The results can provide a basis for accurate prediction of soil water dynamics and thus provide a reference for irrigation decision-makers.

Abstract: Targeting thioredoxin reductase (TXNRD) with low-weight molecules is emerging as a high-efficacy anti-cancer strategy in chemotherapy. Sanguinarine has been reported to inhibit the activity of TXNRD1, indicating that benzophenanthridine alkaloid is a fascinating chemical entity in the field of TXNRD1 inhibitors. In this study, the inhibition of three benzophenanthridine alkaloids, including chelerythrine, sanguinarine, and nitidine, on recombinant TXNRD1 was investigated, and their anti-cancer mechanisms were revealed using three gastric cancer cell lines. Chelerythrine and sanguinarine are more potent inhibitors of TXNRD1 than nitidine, and the inhibitory effects take place in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Site-directed mutagenesis of TXNRD1 and in vitro inhibition analysis proved that chelerythrine or sanguinarine is primarily bound to the Sec498 residue of the enzyme, but the neighboring Cys497 and remaining N-terminal redox-active cysteines could also be modified after the conjugation of Sec498. With high similarity to sanguinarine, chelerythrine exhibited cytotoxic effects on multiple gastric cancer cell lines and suppressed the proliferation of tumor spheroids derived from NCI-N87 cells. Chelerythrine elevated cellular levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and induced endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. Moreover, the ROS induced by chelerythrine could be completely suppressed by the addition of N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC), and the same is true for sanguinarine. Notably, Nec-1, an RIPK1 inhibitor, rescued the chelerythrine-induced rapid cell death, indicating that chelerythrine triggers necroptosis in gastric cancer cells. Taken together, this study demonstrates that chelerythrine is a novel inhibitor of TXNRD1 by targeting Sec498 and possessing high anti-tumor properties on multiple gastric cancer cell lines by eliciting necroptosis.

Abstract: Vitamin C was reported to be able to protect against oxidative damage due to its reducibility. 120 Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 × 2 groups, including normal iodine (NI), high iodine (HI), low vitamin C (HI + LC), and high vitamin C (HI + HC); potassium iodide (KI) and potassium iodate (KIO3) were commonly used as additives for iodized salt, so every group was also divided into KI and KIO3 groups. After 6 months’ feed, the activities of antioxidant enzymes and Lipid Peroxide (MDA) content in serum, liver, kidney, brain, thyroid and lens were determined. In serum, for males, long-term excess iodine intake caused oxidative damage; in the liver, male rats in the HI + LC group had the highest MDA content, which showed that low-dose vitamin C might promote oxidative damage; in kidneys, the MDA content in the HI and HI + LC groups of females was higher; in the brain, high-dose vitamin C could increase the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), which was decreased by high iodine intake, and it also decreased MDA content; in the thyroid, for KIO3, the activity of SOD in the HI group was lower than NI and HI + LC; in the lens, the MDA content in females was lower than males. Long-term excess iodine exposure caused oxidative damage and showed sex difference, and vitamin C had a protective effect on it, especially for high-dose vitamin C.

Abstract: Objective: We sought to understand the status of promotion pressure among university teachers in China. This study explored the promotion duration and influencing factors among teachers in different disciplines of the social sciences. Methods: Using event history analysis, this study collected data regarding university teachers of China. The sample included 536 teachers who had been promoted from assistant to associate professor and 243 teachers promoted from associate to full professor. Our results revealed that the overall time required for promotion in the social sciences is relatively long. For those promoted from assistant to associate professor, the mean time for promotion was 14.155 years, with a median of 11 years, while for the transition from associate to full professor, the mean was 13.904 years with a median of nine years. Furthermore, in the survival function of the promotion duration, there is a stage pattern for both assistant to associate professor and associate to full professor. In addition, the Kaplan–Meier results showed that the mean promotion time in economics was the shortest. The Cox regression results indicated that males had a higher chance of promotion than females, and faculty members with doctoral degrees had a higher likelihood of promotion than those without. For those advancing from assistant to associate professor, the university of employment had significant positive effects on promotion. This paper provides empirical support for the current societal concerns regarding promotion pressure among university teachers.

Abstract: Due to the lack of appropriate experimental methods for imaging the evolution of the microstructure of materials at the growth conditions, our understanding of the physical behavior of crystal growth and defect formation during the vapor deposition growth of SiC crystals is still rather limited. In the present work, the vapor deposition growth of SiC crystal on a 4H-SiC substrate has been investigated by the molecular dynamics (MD) computer simulation method. Three different lattice planes of 4H-SiC ((0001), (112-0) and (1-100)) were selected as the surface of the substrate, and three different temperatures for substrate (2200 K, 2300 K and 2400 K) were used in growth simulations. The characteristics of the formation of different polytypes of SiC and dislocations in the grown crystals were examined. The results show that the SiC crystals were grown by a subsurface nucleation and growth mode in the vapor deposition process. For substrates with (0001) plane as the surface, the 3C-SiC single crystal was obtained in the deposited thin film. For substrates with (112-0) or (1-100) plane as the surface, the 4H-SiC single crystal was obtained instead. The temperature of the substrate was found to have a significant effect on the dislocation density generated in the grown crystals. The mechanism for the formation of Frank partial dislocations during the growth of SiC crystals has been analyzed, for which the importance of the diffusivity of atoms on the surface layer in growth has been highlighted, and it gives a good explanation of the temperature effect on dislocation formation in the grown crystals. These results can be helpful for experimental vapor deposition growth of SiC single crystals and epitaxial layers of high quality.

Abstract: Image fusion and reconstruction from muldti-images taken by distributed or mobile cameras need accurate calibration to avoid image mismatching. This calibration process becomes difficult in fog when no clear nearby reference is available. In this work, the fusion of multi-view images taken in fog by two cameras fixed on a moving platform is realized. The positions and aiming directions of the cameras are determined by taking a close visible object as a reference. One camera with a large field of view (FOV) is applied to acquire images of a short-distance object which is still visible in fog. This reference is then adopted to the calibration of the camera system to determine the positions and pointing directions at each viewpoint. The extrinsic parameter matrices are obtained with these data, which are applied for the image fusion of distant images captured by another camera beyond visibility. The experimental verification was carried out in a fog chamber and the technique is shown to be valid for imaging reconstruction in fog without a prior in-plane. The synthetic image, accumulated and averaged by ten-view images, is shown to perform potential applicability for fog removal. The enhanced structure similarity is discussed and compared in detail with conventional single-view defogging techniques.

Abstract: The nature of the fracture and fragmentation processes in concrete medium under blast loading is the transformation of the medium from continuum to discontinuity. Coupled with the significant rate correlation of concrete medium, its mechanical behavior presents a high degree of complexity. When tackling this problem, the finite element method (FEM) frequently encounters problems such as grid distortion and even negative volume, whereas the material point method (MPM) can efficiently avoid these problems. Furthermore, the original Holmquist-Johnson-Cook (HJC) model does not take the segmented characteristics of the calculation function for the dynamic increasing factor into consideration. As a result, in this article, first, the calculation function for the dynamic increasing factor in the HJC model was modified by the Split-Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) experiment, and an improved HJC model was proposed; second, an MPM simulation program was developed, and the improved HJC concrete model was embedded into the simulation program; and finally, the simulation program was verified by numerical examples, and the results show that the developed simulation program can better simulate the fracture and fragmentation process of the concrete medium under blast loading, especially the pulverization characteristics of the medium in the near zone of the load.

Abstract: With the aim of tackling insufficient security in the chaotic encryption algorithm for digital images in the Optical Access Network, a color image encryption scheme combining non-degenerate discrete hyperchaotic system and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) dynamic encoding is proposed. First, a new non-degenerate hyperchaotic system is constructed with all positive Lyapunov and more complex dynamic characteristics. Furthermore, the key sequence based on non-degenerate hyperchaotic system is generated using plaintext correlation to achieve the effect of a dynamic secret key. Next, a binary bit-planes permutation is performed on the image using one of the key sequences. Then, the chaotic key sequence is used to sequentially perform DNA encoding, obfuscation, and decoding. Finally, a binary bit-planes obfuscation is performed to obtain the final ciphertext. The research results show that the non-degenerate chaotic sequence can pass the NIST 800-22 test, and the corresponding encryption algorithm can resist various common attacks and has a strong anti-interference ability. In addition, the algorithm is verified on ARM-Embedded, which proves that the encryption system proposed in this paper is a feasible secure communication technology scheme. Therefore, the scheme proposed in this paper is helpful to provide new ideas for the design and application of high-security cryptosystem in optical access network.

Abstract: Recently, as an emerging material, ultrawide bandgap Ga2O3 has been investigated extensively in solar-blind deep-ultraviolet (DUV) photodetectors (PDs). High sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio of PDs are essential for the detection of solar-blind DUV signals; however, such factors are often not mutually compatible. In the present study, an amorphous/monoclinic homogeneous mixed-phase structure was demonstrated to be significantly beneficial in enhancing the comprehensive performance of Ga2O3 solar-blind DUV PDs, especially with respect to sensitivity and the signal-to-noise ratio. Further experimental and theoretical findings provide insights on the transport mechanism of enhanced performance in the mixed-phase Ga2O3 solar-blind DUV PD. For effectively separating the photogenerated carriers, a type-II band alignment between amorphous and crystalline Ga2O3 can be exploited. Furthermore, the change of the barrier height of the mixed-phase interface also has a significant impact on the transport properties of the mixed-phase Ga2O3 PD. Additionally, the potential applications of mixed-phase Ga2O3 PD in high-voltage corona discharge were explored, and clear and stable corona discharge signals were obtained. The results of the present study may promote understanding of DUV photoelectronic devices with various mixed-phase Ga2O3 materials and provide an efficient approach for promoting comprehensive performance in future solar-blind detection applications.
