    Abstract: Owing to the special working systems of streak tube imaging lidar (STIL), the time and space dimensions are coupled together on the streak images. This coupling can cause measurement errors in 3D point clouds and can make measurement results more complicated to calibrate than other kinds of lidars. This paper presents a method to generate a time calibration array and an angle calibration array to separate the offset of the streak into time dimension and space dimension. The time and space information of the signal at any position on the streak image can be indexed through these two arrays. A validation experiment on aircraft was carried out, and the range error of the 3D point cloud was improved from 0.41 m to 0.27 m using the proposed calibration method. Thus, using the proposed calibration method can improve the accuracy of the point cloud produced by STIL.

    Abstract: Tyrosinase (TYR, E.C. 1.14.18.1), a critical enzyme participating in melanogenesis, catalyzes the first two steps in melanin biosynthesis including the ortho-hydroxylation of L-tyrosine and the oxidation of L-DOPA. Previous pharmacological investigations have revealed that an abnormal level of TYR is tightly associated with various dermatoses, including albinism, age spots, and malignant melanoma. TYR inhibitors can partially block the formation of pigment, which are always used for improving skin tone and treating dermatoses. The practical and reliable assays for monitoring TYR activity levels are very useful for both disease diagnosis and drug discovery. This review comprehensively summarizes structural and enzymatic characteristics, catalytic mechanism and substrate preference of TYR, as well as the recent advances in biochemical assays for sensing TYR activity and their biomedical applications. The design strategies of various TYR substrates, alongside with several lists of all reported biochemical assays for sensing TYR including analytical conditions and kinetic parameters, are presented for the first time. Additionally, the biomedical applications and future perspectives of these optical assays are also highlighted. The information and knowledge presented in this review offer a group of practical and reliable assays and imaging tools for sensing TYR activities in complex biological systems, which strongly facilitates high-throughput screening TYR inhibitors and further investigations on the relevance of TYR to human diseases.

    Abstract: Montmorillonite is always a troublemaker for the dewatering in coal processing since its existence can decrease the rates of sedimentation and filtration of coal slurry. To eliminate the adverse effect of montmorillonite, adjusting the slurry pH and adding electrolytes are always the key methods. However, the underlying mechanism still needs to be further studied. The dewatering of Na-montmorillonite (Na-Mt) suspensions has been studied as a function of NaCl concentration (10−3, 10−2, and 10−1 M) at different pH values (6.0, 7.7, 8.1, 9.2). The point of zero charge of edge surface of Na-Mt (pHPZC,edge) appeared at the pH value of 6.8. The sedimentation and rheology experiments described the coagulation and flow behaviors of Na-Mt suspensions, respectively. The Na-Mt suspension coagulated spontaneously at low salt concentration with the pH ~ 6.0. For the pH 〉 pHPZC,edge, the height of the sediment bed reduced and apparent viscosity increased with the increase of the electrolyte concentration. The filtration properties were evaluated on the basis of Darcy’s law. The obtained result clearly demonstrated that the filtration rate was accelerated with the increase of pH and electrolyte concentration. The modes of particle association and its effect on filtration performance were discussed. Moreover, a comparison with related results from the literature was performed. At pH ~ 6 and low electrolyte concentration, the positively charged Edge surfaces and negatively charged Face surfaces coagulate rapidly to form a sealed structure by electrostatic attraction. Furthermore, inside this sealed structure, the water molecules cannot be removed in the filtration process easily. However, by increasing the electrolyte concentration at pH 〉 pHPZC,edge, the gradually formed Face/Face structure increases the filtration rate sharply because of the inhibiting effect of the electric double layer (EDL) and the osmotic expansion. Therefore, adjusting solution conditions of the aqueous suspension to tune the particle coagulation behavior is one of the effective methods to solve the problem of montmorillonite dewatering.

    Abstract: Support is a necessary foundation for ceramic membranes to achieve high performance. Finding the optimum balance between high performance and low cost is still a significant challenge in the fabrication of ceramic supports. In this study, low-cost fly ash-based ceramic supports with enhanced performance were prepared by the addition of bauxite. The pore structure, mechanical strength, and shrinkage of fly ash/bauxite supports could be tuned by optimizing the bauxite content and sintering temperature. When the sintering temperature and bauxite content were controlled at 1300 °C and 40 wt%, respectively, the obtained membrane supports exhibited a high pure water permeance of approximately 5.36 m3·m−2·h−1·bar−1 and a high bending strength of approximately 69.6 MPa. At the same time, the optimized ceramic supports presented a typical mullite phase and excellent resistance to acid and alkali. This work provides a potential route for the preparation of ceramic membrane supports with characteristics of low cost and high performance.

    Abstract: While host miRNA usually plays an antiviral role, the relentless tides of viral evolution have carved out a mechanism to recruit host miRNA as a viral protector. By complementing miR-122 at the 5′ end of the genome, the hepatitis C virus (HCV) gene can form a complex with Argonaute 2 (Ago2) protein to protect the 5′ end of HCV RNA from exonucleolytic attacks. Experiments showed that the disruption of the stem-loop 1(SL1) structure and the 9th nucleotide (T9) of HCV site 1 RNA could enhance the affinity of the Ago2 protein to the HCV site 1 RNA (target RNA). However, the underlying mechanism of how the conformation and dynamics of the Ago2: miRNA: target RNA complex is affected by the SL1 and T9 remains unclear. To address this, we performed large-scale molecular dynamics simulations on the AGO2-miRNA complex binding with the WT target, T9-abasic target and SL1-disruption target, respectively. The results revealed that the T9 and SL1 structures could induce the departing motion of the PAZ, PIWI and N domains, propping up the mouth of the central groove which accommodates the target RNA, causing the instability of the target RNA and disrupting the Ago2 binding. The coordinated motion among the PAZ, PIWI and N domains were also weakened by the T9 and SL1 structures. Moreover, we proposed a new model wherein the Ago2 protein could adopt a more constraint conformation with the proximity and more correlated motions of the PAZ, N and PIWI domains to protect the target RNA from dissociation. These findings reveal the mechanism of the Ago2-miRNA complex’s protective effect on the HCV genome at the atomic level, which will offer guidance for the design of drugs to confront the protection effect and engineering of Ago2 as a gene-regulation tool.

    Abstract: Predicting the remaining useful life (RUL) of batteries can help users optimize battery management strategies for better usage planning. However, the RUL prediction accuracy of lithium-ion batteries will face challenges due to fewer data samples available for the new type of battery. This paper proposed a transferable prediction approach for the RUL of lithium-ion batteries based on small samples to reduce time in preparing battery aging data and improve prediction accuracy. This approach, based on improvements from the adaptive boosting algorithm, is called regression tree transfer adaptive boosting (RT-TrAdaBoost). It combines the advantages of ensemble learning and transfer learning and achieves high computational efficiency. The RT-TrAdaBoost approach takes the charging voltage and temperature curve as input and utilizes the classification and regression tree (CART) as the base learner, which has better feature capture ability. In the experiment, the working condition migration experiment and battery type migration experiment are conducted on non-overlapping datasets. The verified results revealed that the RT-TrAdaBoost approach could transfer not only the battery aging knowledge between various working conditions but also realize the RUL migration prediction from lithium iron phosphate battery to lithium cobalt oxide battery. The analysis of error and computation time demonstrates the proposed method’s high efficiency and speed.

    Abstract: An efficient direct C(sp3)–H oxidation of diarylmethanes has been demonstrated by this study. This method employs environment-friendly O2 as an oxidant and is promoted by commercially available MN(SiMe3)2 [M = K, Na or Li], which provides a facile method for the synthesis of various diaryl ketones in excellent yields. This protocol is metal-free, mild and compatible with a number of functional groups on substrates.

    Abstract: The rapid and intelligent evaluation of black tea taste quality during the fermentation process is an unsolved problem because of the complexity and hysteretic of the current taste evaluation method. Common infrared spectroscopy and machine vision technologies can rapidly evaluate the taste quality of black tea, but they can not obtain comprehensive sample information. To obtain comprehensive sample information and achieve the rapid evaluation of the taste quality of black tea, the fusion data from hyperspectral images of fermentation samples were applied to predict the taste quality. The successive projection algorithm (SPA) and ant colony optimization (ACO) were used to select effective bands for spectral data. Subsequently, the color images were synthesized using three carefully selected effective bands obtained through the SPA and ACO. The 18 image features were extracted from each synthesized color image and fused with spectral effective bands. The fusion data and three different algorithms, such as partial least squares regression (PLSR), support vector machine regression (SVR), and extreme learning machine (ELM), were employed to establish the regression model for taste quality. Specifically, the fusion-SPA-PLSR model exhibited the best performance. This study provides a novel method for the intelligent evaluation of taste quality during black tea fermentation and lays a theoretical foundation for the intelligent processing and control of black tea.

    Abstract: This study aimed to compare ozone-microbubble-washing (OM) performed by domestic equipment with conventional water-washing (CW) regarding resultant quality attributes of muscle foods. For this purpose, muscle microstructure and lipid and protein oxidation were evaluated in pork and fish samples after OM and CW treatments. The assessment of muscle microstructure showed that OM treatment did not damage the microstructure of muscle fibers in both pork and fish samples. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) values were not detected in both treatment groups, and they were substantially below the generally acceptable threshold (1 mg MDA/kg). The methylglyoxal (MGO) level of OM-treated fish samples was significantly higher than that of CW-treated fish samples. However, glyoxal (GO) and MGO levels of OM-treated pork samples were significantly lower than that of CW-treated pork samples. Similar types and sites of oxidative modification and similar numbers of modified peptides, as well as no significant difference in the concentration of total and most of the free amino acids (FAA) between treatment groups, indicated that OM treatment did not accelerate protein oxidation.
