Abstract: It is hard for current time series reconstruction methods to achieve the balance of high-precision time series reconstruction and explanation of the model mechanism. The goal of this paper is to improve the reconstruction accuracy with a well-explained time series model. Thus, we developed a function-based model, the CCTM (Continuous Change Tracker Model) model, that can achieve high precision in time series reconstruction by tracking the time series variation rate. The goal of this paper is to provide a new solution for high-precision time series reconstruction and related applications. To test the reconstruction effects, the model was applied to four types of datasets: normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), gross primary productivity (GPP), leaf area index (LAI), and MODIS surface reflectance (MSR). Several new observations are as follows. First, the CCTM model is well explained and based on the second-order derivative theorem, which divides the yearly time series into four variation types including uniform variations, decelerated variations, accelerated variations, and short-periodical variations, and each variation type is represented by a designed function. Second, the CCTM model provides much better reconstruction results than the Harmonic model on the NDVI, GPP, MSR, and LAI datasets for the seasonal segment reconstruction. The combined use of the Savitzky–Golay filter and the CCTM model is better than the combinations of the Savitzky–Golay filter with other models. Third, the Harmonic model has the best trend-fitting ability on the yearly time series dataset, with the highest R-Square and the lowest RMSE among the four function fitting models. However, with seasonal piecewise fitting, the four models all achieved high accuracy, and the CCTM performs the best. Fourth, the CCTM model should also be applied to time series image compression, two compression patterns with 24 coefficients and 6 coefficients respectively are proposed. The daily MSR dataset can achieve a compression ratio of 15 by using the 6-coefficients method. Finally, the CCTM model also has the potential to be applied to change detection, trend analysis, and phenology and seasonal characteristics extractions.

Abstract: ZnO film was deposited by the magnetron sputtering method. The thickness of ZnO film is approximately 2 μm. The influence of UV light illumination on C2H5OH sensing properties of ZnO film was investigated. Gas sensing results revealed that the UV-illuminated ZnO film displays excellent C2H5OH characteristics in terms of high sensitivity, excellent selectivity, rapid response/recovery, and low detection limit down to 0.1 ppm. The excellent sensing performance of the sensor with UV activation could be attributed to the photocatalytic oxidation of ethanol on the surface of the ZnO film, the planar film structure with high utilizing efficiency of UV light, high electron mobility, and a good surface/volume ratio of of ZnO film with a relatively rough and porous surface.

Abstract: The progression of NTLs after PCI accounts for a significant portion of future adverse cardiac events. The reduction in LDL-C reduces cardiovascular events. This has, however, not yet been shown in a real-world setting. We aimed to investigate the association between LDL-C changes with progression in NTLs. A total of 847 patients with successful PCI were enrolled. Patients with follow-up LDL-C ≥ 1.4 mmol/L or percent reduction 〈 50% compared to baseline were Non-optimal group (n = 793); patients with follow-up LDL-C 〈 1.4 mmol/L and percent reduction ≥50% compared to baseline were Optimal group (n = 54). Compared to Non-optimal group, Optimal group presented a lower rate of NTL plaque progression (11.11% vs. 23.96%; p = 0.007) and a lower follow-up TC (2.77 ± 0.59 vs. 3.66 ± 0.97; p 〈 0.001) and LDL-C (1.09 ± 0.26 vs. 2.03 ± 0.71; p 〈 0.001). The univariate logistic regression analysis revealed that follow-up LDL-C 〈 1.4 mmol/L and a percent reduction ≥50% from baseline was a protective factor for NTL plaque progression (OR: 0.397; 95%CI: 0.167–0.941; p = 0.036). The multivariate logistic regression model revealed that follow-up LDL-C 〈 1.4 mmol/L and percent reduction ≥50% was indeed an independent factor associated with a lower rate of plaque progression of NTLs (OR: 0.398; 95% CI: 0.167–0.945; p = 0.037). Therefore, achieving guideline-recommended LDL-C level was associated with a significantly reduced risk of NTL plaque progression.

Abstract: As with the decreasing feature size prompted by Moore’s law and the continuous technological advancements in the semiconductor industry, the distortion of the projection lens is an important factor that affects the overlay. In this paper, we propose a wavefront-measurement-based method to detect the projection lens distortion in the lithographic system. By normalizing the coordinates of the Shack–Hartmann system with the image displacements represented in the Z2 and Z3 terms of Zernike coefficients, the offsets between the actual image points and the ideal image points can be determined. By offset collection at an array of 7 × 7 field points to establish an overdetermined system of equations, the proposed method can simultaneously detect the distortions of translation, magnification, rotation, decentering distortion, thin prism distortion, and third-order radial distortion. This distortion measurement method is highly flexible for distortion measurement with portable and compactly integrated sensors, enabling the real-time and cost-efficient measurement of wave aberration and distortion. For proof-of-concept experiments, a projection lens with a numerical aperture (NA) of 0.58 for i-line (365 nm) is used for experimental testing. The results reveal that the repeatability accuracy of distortion detection is 51 nm and the 72 h long-term reproducibility is 143 nm.

Abstract: Insects represent a sustainable, protein-rich food source widely consumed in Asia, Africa, and South America. Eating Clanis bilineata tsingtauica Mell is common in the eastern part of China. A comparative characterization of nutrients in the meat and epidermis of C. bilineata tsingtauica was performed in this study. The results showed this insect to be high in nutrients, particularly in the epidermis where protein total was 71.82%. Sixteen different amino acids were quantified in C. bilineata tsingtauica, and the ratio of essential to nonessential amino acids in the epidermis and meat was 68.14% and 59.27%, respectively. The amino acid composition of C. bilineata tsingtauica is balanced, representing a high-quality protein source. Eight minerals were quantified in C. bilineata tsingtauica, including four macro and four trace elements. Fe in the epidermis and Zn in the meat were abundant at 163.82 and 299.31 μg/g DW, respectively. The presence of phytic acid impacted the absorption of mineral elements in food. We also detected phytic acid in C. bilineata tsingtauica. The molar ratio of phytic acid to zinc (PA/Zn) in C. bilineata tsingtauica was very low (3.28) compared to Glycine max and Cryptotympana atrata, which indicated that mineral utilization was high. In conclusion, this study confirms that C. bilineata tsingtauica is a highly nutritious food source for human consumption, and the results provide a basis for further consumption and industrialization of this edible insect.

Abstract: This study verified the seasonal six-month forecasts for winter temperatures for northern Vietnam in 1998–2018 using a regional climate model (RegCM4) with the boundary conditions of the climate forecast system Version 2 (CFSv2) from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). First, different physical schemes (land-surface process, cumulus, and radiation parameterizations) in RegCM4 were applied to generate 12 single forecasts. Second, the simple ensemble forecasts were generated through the combinations of those different physical formulations. Three subclimate regions (R1, R2, R3) of northern Vietnam were separately tested with surface observations and a reanalysis dataset (Japanese 55-year reanalysis (JRA55)). The highest sensitivity to the mean monthly temperature forecasts was shown by the land-surface parameterizations (the biosphere−atmosphere transfer scheme (BATS) and community land model version 4.5 (CLM)). The BATS forecast groups tended to provide forecasts with lower temperatures than the actual observations, while the CLM forecast groups tended to overestimate the temperatures. The forecast errors from single forecasts could be clearly reduced with ensemble mean forecasts, but ensemble spreads were less than those root-mean-square errors (RMSEs). This indicated that the ensemble forecast was underdispersed and that the direct forecast from RegCM4 needed more postprocessing.

Abstract: We previously demonstrated that the partial replacement of forage with non-forage fiber sources (NFFS) in dairy cow diets could decrease the ruminal ratio of acetate to propionate, leading to changes in circulatory and milk extracellular vesicle (EV)-miRNAs expression. This study further explored the effects of the NFFS diets on milk EV proteins, which were proposed as food bio-active ingredients in recent research. We replaced 8.97% alfalfa hay and 2.51% corn silage with 5.72% whole cotton seed and 4.73% soybean hull in the cow diet, reducing the forage neutral detergent fiber from 20.92% to 15.67%. In total 488 proteins were identified by proteome, and 65 proteins were differentially expressed in response to the NFFS diets, the functions of which were mainly enriched in immune-related pathways, including complement and coagulation cascades, phagosome, Staphylococcus aureus infection, and chemokine signaling pathway. Moreover, 57 milk EV-proteins, mainly attributed to enzymes, cytoskeletal proteins, and transport proteins, were in the top 100 most identified EV-proteins in different species and body fluids, which might be related to the biogenesis, structure, and traffic of all vesicles. The results showed that NFFS diets could influence cow milk EV-protein composition, implying that we could take effective nutritional strategies to promote the synthesis of milk functional ingredients. Combined with all our studies, NFFS diets were recommended to improve the rumen fermentation model and enrich the milk EV proteins of dairy cows.

Abstract: In recent years, China has determined the national goal of “developing national environmental criteria”, thereby promoting the rapid development of environmental quality criteria research in China. In 2017, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China (MEEC, formerly the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China) issued the technical guideline for deriving water quality criteria (WQC) for protection of freshwater organisms (HJ 831-2017), and in 2022, they organized the guideline revision and issued an updated version (HJ 831-2022). The primary contents of the revision included the following. The minimum toxicity data requirements were upgraded from 6 to 10, and the species mean toxicity value was replaced by the same effect toxicity value for the criteria calculation. It is now required that the tested organisms must be distributed in China’s natural fresh waters, and the toxicity data of non-native model species will no longer be used. The list of freshwater invasive species in China that cannot be used as test species was added into the guideline. The acute/chronic ratio (ACR) method for the criteria derivation and the extreme value model were deleted, and the provisions for testing the toxicity data distribution were also deleted. The exposure time of the toxicity test of various tested organisms was refined, and the priority of the toxicity data was clearly specified. This paper introduces the framework and specific technical requirements of HJ 831-2022 in detail, including data collection, pre-processing of toxicity data, criteria derivation, fitting models, and quality control. This introduction is helpful for international peers to understand the latest research progress of China’s WQC.

Abstract: Liquid biopsy through the detection of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) has potential advantages in cancer monitoring and prediction. However, most previous studies in this area were performed with a few hotspot genes, single time point detection, or insufficient sequencing depth. In this study, we performed targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) with a customized panel in metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients. Fifty-four plasma samples were taken before chemotherapy and after the third course of treatment for detection and analysis. Paired lymphocytes were also included to eliminate clonal hematopoiesis (CH)-related alternatives. A total of 1182 nonsynonymous mutations in 419 genes were identified. More ctDNA mutations were detected in patients with tumors 〉 3 cm (p = 0.035) and HER2(−) patients (p = 0.029). For a single gene, the distribution of ctDNA mutations was also correlated with clinical characteristics. Multivariate regression analysis revealed that HER2 status was significantly associated with mutation burden (OR 0.02, 95% CI 0–0.62, p = 0.025). The profiles of ctDNA mutations exhibited marked discrepancies between two time points, and baseline ctDNA was more sensitive and specific than that after chemotherapy. Finally, elevated ctDNA mutation level was positively correlated with poor survival (p 〈 0.001). Mutations in ctDNA could serve as a potential biomarker for the evaluation, prediction, and clinical management guidance of MBC patients with chemotherapy.
