    Abstract: Microwave-absorbing materials have attracted extensive attention due to the development of electronic countermeasures. In this study, novel nanocomposites with core–shell structures based on the core of Fe-Co nanocrystals and the shell of furan methylamine (FMA)-modified anthracite coal (Coal-F) were designed and fabricated. The Diels-Alder (D-A) reaction of Coal-F with FMA creates a large amount of aromatic lamellar structure. After the high-temperature treatment, the modified anthracite with a high degree of graphitization showed an excellent dielectric loss, and the addition of Fe and Co effectively enhanced the magnetic loss of the obtained nanocomposites. In addition, the obtained micro-morphologies proved the core–shell structure, which plays a significant role in strengthening the interface polarization. As a result, the combined effect of the multiple loss mechanism promoted a remarkable improvement in the absorption of incident electromagnetic waves. The carbonization temperatures were specifically studied through a setting control experiment, and 1200 °C was proved to be the optimum parameter to obtain the best dielectric loss and magnetic loss of the sample. The detecting results show that the 10 wt.% CFC-1200/paraffin wax sample with a thickness of 5 mm achieves a minimum reflection loss of −41.6 dB at a frequency of 6.25 GHz, indicating an excellent microwave absorption performance.

    Abstract: Nanoenzyme reactors based on shell-isolated colloidal plasmonic nanomaterials are well-established and widely applied in catalysis and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensing. In this study, a “double wing with one body” strategy was developed to establish a reduced food antiseptic sensing method using shell-isolated colloidal plasmonic nanomaterials. Gold nano particles (Au NPs) were used to synthesize the colloidal plasmonic nanomaterials, which was achieved by attaching ferrous ions (Fe2+), ferric ions (Fe3+), nitroso (NO−) group, cyanogen (CN−) group, and dopamine (DA) via coordinative interactions. The oxidation-induced reaction was utilized to generate •OH following the Fe2+-mediated Fenton reaction with the shell-isolated colloidal plasmonic nanomaterials. The •OH generated in the cascade reactor had a high oxidative capacity toward acid preservatives. Importantly, with the introduction of the signal molecule DA, the cascade reactor exhibited also induced a Raman signal change by reaction with the oxidation product (malondialdehyde) which improved the sensitivity of the analysis. In addition, the stable shell-isolated structure was effective in realizing a reproducible and quantitative SERS analysis method, which overcomes previous limitations and could extend the use of nanoenzymes to various complex sensing applications.

    Abstract: (1) Background: Topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are one of the primary drugs for treating musculoskeletal pain. However, there are currently no evidence-based recommendations about drug selection, drug administration, drug interactions, and use in special populations or other pharmacology-related content of such medications. To this end, the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association Hospital Pharmacy Professional Committee developed multidisciplinary guidelines on using topical NSAIDs to treat musculoskeletal pain. (2) Methods: The guidelines development process followed the World Health Organization guideline development handbook, the GRADE methodology, and the statement of Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in Healthcare. The guideline panel used the Delphi method to identify six clinical questions to be addressed in the guidelines. An independent systematic review team conducted a systematic search and integration of evidence. (3) Results: Based on the balance between the benefits and harms of an intervention, the quality of the evidence, patient preferences and values, and resource utilization, the guideline panel developed 11 recommendations and nine expert consensuses on using topical NSAIDs to treat acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain. (4) Conclusions: Based on the effectiveness and overall safety of topical NSAIDs, we recommend patients with musculoskeletal pain use topical NSAIDs and suggest high-risk patients use topical NSAIDs, such as those with other diseases or receiving other concurrent treatments. The evidenced-based guidelines on topical NSAIDs for musculoskeletal pain incorporated a pharmacist perspective. The guidelines have the potential to facilitate the rational use of topical NSAIDs. The guideline panel will monitor the relevant evidence and update the recommendations accordingly.

    Abstract: Abnormal platelet activation can lead to thrombosis in essential thrombocythemia (ET) and thus impact patient prognosis. Platelet activation-associated proteins are key molecules for platelet activation. However, it is unclear which proteins are most closely associated with the disease’s prognosis. To determine which platelet activation-related proteins can be employed as ET patient prognosis predictors, we used label-free quantification (LFQ) and parallel reaction monitoring (PRM) technology and first determined the serum proteomic expression levels and the differential proteins of ET patients. Then, based on the IPSET (International Prognostic Score for ET), the differential protein associated with the prognostic score was found. To investigate potential processes affecting prognosis, the connection of this protein with prognostic markers, such as thrombotic history, age, white blood cell count, coagulation factors, and inflammatory factors, were further examined. The levels of platelet activation-related proteins GPIbα, SELP, PF4, MMP1, and FLNA were significantly higher in ET patients, according to LFQ and PRM analyses (p 〈 0.01). Based on regression analysis of the IPSET prognostic score, it is suggested that the SELP level was positively correlated with the prognostic score and prognostic risk factor analysis (p 〈 0.05). Further regression analysis of SELP with coagulation factors showed that antithrombin (AT-III) was negatively correlated with SELP levels (p 〈 0.05). Further regression analysis of the inflammatory factors with AT-III and SELP revealed that IL-10, IL-12P70, and IL-31 were negatively correlated with AT-III and SELP (p 〈 0.01). Platelet activation pathway-related proteins are expressed more frequently in ET patients, and serum SELP may be a prognostic marker for these individuals by encouraging leukocyte increase and inflammatory factor expression and causing aberrant coagulation.

    Abstract: Objectives: The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of early life experiences and gut microbiota on neurobehavioral development in preterm infants during neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) hospitalization. Methods: Preterm infants were followed from NICU admission until their 28th postnatal day or until discharge. Daily stool samples, painful/stressful experiences, feeding patterns, and other clinical and demographic data were collected. Gut microbiota was profiled using 16S rRNA sequencing, and operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were selected to predict the neurobehaviors. The neurobehavioral development was assessed by the Neonatal Neurobehavioral Scale (NNNS) at 36 to 38 weeks of post-menstrual age (PMA). Fifty-five infants who had NNNS measurements were included in the sparse log-contrast regression analysis. Results: Preterm infants who experienced a high level of pain/stress during the NICU hospitalization had higher NNNS stress/abstinence scores. Eight operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were identified to be associated with NNNS subscales after controlling demographic and clinical features, feeding patterns, and painful/stressful experiences. These OTUs and taxa belonging to seven genera, i.e., Enterobacteriaceae_unclassified, Escherichia-Shigella, Incertae_Sedis, Veillonella, Enterococcus, Clostridium_sensu_stricto_1, and Streptococcus with five belonging to Firmicutes and two belonging to Proteobacteria phylum. The enriched abundance of Enterobacteriaceae_unclassified (OTU17) and Streptococcus (OTU28) were consistently associated with less optimal neurobehavioral outcomes. The other six OTUs were also associated with infant neurobehavioral responses depending on days at NICU stay. Conclusions: This study explored the dynamic impact of specific OTUs on neurobehavioral development in preterm infants after controlling for early life experiences, i.e., acute and chronic pain/stress and feeding in the NICU. The gut microbiota and acute pain/stressful experiences dynamically impact the neurobehavioral development in preterm infants during their NICU hospitalization.

    Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the differences between two typical payment methods for the new rural cooperative medical scheme (NRCMS) in China on the utilisation of inpatient services. Interrupted time-series analysis (ITSA) and propensity score matching (PSM) were used to measure the difference between two typical payment methods for the NRCMS with regard to the utilisation of inpatient services. After the reform was formally implemented, the level and slope difference after reform compared with pre-intervention (distribution of inpatients in county hospitals (DIC), distribution of inpatients in township hospitals (DIT) and the actual compensation ratio of inpatients (ARCI)) were not statistically significant. Kernel matching obtained better results in reducing the mean and median of the absolute standardised bias of covariates of appropriateness of admission (AA), appropriateness of disease (AD). The difference in AA and AD of the matched inpatients between two groups was −0.03 (p-value = 0.042, 95% CI: −0.08 to 0.02) and 0.21 (p-value 〈 0.001, 95% CI: −0.17 to 0.25), respectively. The differences in the utilisation of inpatient services may arise owing to the system designs of different payment methods for NRCMS in China. The causes of these differences can be used to guide inpatients to better use medical services, through the transformation and integration of payment systems.

    Abstract: This study aimed to assess the effect of the county-level medical centre policy on the health outcomes of trauma patients transported by emergency medical service (EMS) system in rural China. The methodology involved the use of electronic health records (EHRs, after 2016) of patients with trauma conditions such as head injury (n = 1931), chest (back) injury (n = 466), abdominal (waist) injury (n = 536), and limb injury (n = 857) who were transported by EMS to the county-level trauma centres of Huining County and Huan County in Gansu, China. Each patient was matched with a counterpart to a county-level trauma centre hospital by propensity score matching. Cox proportional hazard models were used to estimate the hazard ratios (HRs) of such patients in different hospitals. The HRs of all patients with the abovementioned traumatic conditions transported by EMS to county-level trauma centre hospitals were consistently higher than those transported by EMS to traditional hospitals after adjusting for numerous potential confounders. Higher HRs were associated with all patients with trauma (HR = 1.249, p 〈 0.001), head injury (HR = 1.416, p 〈 0.001), chest (back) injury (HR = 1.112, p = 0.560), abdominal (waist) injury (HR = 1.273, p = 0.016), and limb injury (HR = 1.078, p = 0.561) transported by EMS to the county-level trauma centre hospitals. Our study suggests that the construction of county-level medical centre provides an effective strategy to improve the health outcomes of EMS-transported trauma patients in Gansu, China. Policy makers can learn from the experience and improve the health outcomes of such patients through a personalised trauma treatment system and by categorizing the regional trauma centre.

    Abstract: Planetary boundary-layer height is an important physical quantity for weather forecasting models and atmosphere environment assessment. A method of simultaneously extracting the surface-layer height (SLH), mixed-layer height (MLH), and aerosol optical properties, which include aerosol extinction coefficient (AEC) and aerosol optical depth (AOD), based on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the same coherent Doppler wind lidar (CDWL) is proposed. The method employs wavelet covariance transform to locate the SLH and MLH using the local maximum positions and an automatic algorithm of dilation operation. AEC and AOD are determined by the fitting curve using the SNR equation. Furthermore, the method demonstrates the influential mechanism of optical properties on the SLH and MLH. MLH is linearly correlated with AEC and AOD because of solar heating increasing. The results were verified by the data of an ocean island site in China.

    Abstract: As people pay ever-increasing attention to the problems caused by psychological stress, research on its influencing factors becomes crucial. This study analyzed the Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS, Cycle 3 and Cycle 4) data (N = 5484) and assessed the outcomes using descriptive statistics, Chi-squared tests, and t-tests. Four machine learning algorithms were applied for modeling: logistic regression (linear), random forests (RF) (ensemble), the artificial neural network (ANN) (nonlinear), and gradient boosting (GB) (ensemble). The samples were randomly assigned to a 50% training set and a 50% validation set. Twenty-six preselected variables from the databases were used in the study as predictors, and the four models identified twenty predictors of psychological distress. The essence of this paper is a binary classification problem of judging whether an individual has psychological distress based on many different factors. Therefore, accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and AUC were used to evaluate the model performance. The logistic regression model selected predictors by forward selection, backward selection, and stepwise regression; variable importance values were used to identify predictors in the other three machine learning methods. Of the four machine learning models, the ANN exhibited the best predictive effect (AUC = 73.90%). A range of predictors of psychological distress was identified by combining the four machine learning models, which would help improve the performance of the existing mental health screening tools.
