Abstract: Being a positive candidate reinforcement material for laminar composites, the Mg2X (X = Si, Ge, Sn) based intermetallics have attracted much attention. The elastic properties, anisotropy, and electronic properties of intermetallic compounds with Bi-doped Mg2X (X = Si, Ge, Sn) are calculated by the first principles method. Results show that the lattice parameters of Mg2X are smaller than those of Bi-doped Mg2X. The element Bi preferentially occupies the position of the X (X = Si, Ge, Sn) atom than other positions. Mg2X (X = Si, Ge, Sn), Mg63X32Bi, Mg64X31Bi, Mg64Ge32Bi, and Mg64Sn32Bi are mechanically stable, while Mg64Si32Bi indicates that it cannot exist stably. The doping of alloying element Bi reduces the shear deformation resistance of the Mg2X (X = Si, Ge, Sn) alloy. The pure and Bi-doped Mg2X (X = Si, Ge, Sn) exhibits elastic and anisotropic characteristics. The contribution of the Bi orbitals of Mg63X32Bi, Mg64X31Bi, and Mg63X32Bi are different, resulting in different hybridization effects in three types of Bi-doped Mg2X.

Abstract: The routine assessment to determine the genetic etiology for fetal ultrasound anomalies follows a sequential approach, which usually takes about 6–8 weeks turnaround time (TAT). We evaluated the clinical utility of simultaneous detection of copy number variations (CNVs) and single nucleotide variants (SNVs)/small insertion-deletions (indels) in fetuses with a normal karyotype with ultrasound anomalies. We performed CNV detection by chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) or low pass CNV-sequencing (CNV-seq), and in parallel SNVs/indels detection by trio-based clinical exome sequencing (CES) or whole exome sequencing (WES). Eight-three singleton pregnancies with a normal fetal karyotype were enrolled in this prospective observational study. Pathogenic or likely pathogenic variations were identified in 30 cases (CNVs in 3 cases, SNVs/indels in 27 cases), indicating an overall molecular diagnostic rate of 36.1% (30/83). Two cases had both a CNV of uncertain significance (VOUS) and likely pathogenic SNV, and one case carried both a VOUS CNV and an SNV. We demonstrated that simultaneous analysis of CNVs and SNVs/indels can improve the diagnostic yield of prenatal diagnosis with shortened reporting time, namely, 2–3 weeks. Due to the relatively long TAT for sequential procedure for prenatal genetic diagnosis, as well as recent sequencing technology advancements, it is clinically necessary to consider the simultaneous evaluation of CNVs and SNVs/indels to enhance the diagnostic yield and timely TAT, especially for cases in the late second trimester or third trimester.

Abstract: Access to clean and equitable water is vital to human survival and an essential component of a sustainable society. Using 59 monitoring sections, the water quality of 32 rivers in 12 river systems within two river basins in one resource-depleted city (Jiaozuo) was examined in four seasons to better comprehend the extent of river pollution, and the distribution prediction of main indexes was conducted. In total, 92% of the monitoring sections met the national standards. Overall, 12.5%, 62.5%, and 25% of samples met water quality standards III, IV, and V, respectively. The concentrations of total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), and chemical oxygen demand (COD) ranged from 0.527 to 7.078, 0.001 to 1.789, and 0.53 to 799.25 mg/L, respectively. The Yellow River Basin has higher annual mean concentrations of total carbon (TC), TN, and total organic carbon (TOC) than the Haihe River Basin. The highest and lowest concentrations of specific water quality indices varied across seasons and rivers. Dashilao and Rongyou Rivers have the best water quality, while Dasha, Xin, and Mang Rivers have the worst. TN, TP, and NH4+-N concentrations in the Laomang River midstream were greater than those upstream and downstream. Statistically, significant positive associations were found between NH4+-N and TC, TOC, and COD (p 〈 0.025), where NH4+-N and COD influenced water quality the most. A significant positive relationship between COD and TP (p 〈 0.01) was observed. Overall, water quality values were highest in the summer and lowest in winter. The distribution prediction revealed TN, TP, NH4+-N, and COD showed significant regional differences. Household sewage, industrial sewage discharge, and agricultural contamination were all the possible significant contributors to declining water quality. These findings could provide a scientific reference for river water resource management in resource-depleted cities.
