Kurzfassung: Exploiting excellent photocatalytic activity and stable heterostructure composites are of critical importance for environmental sustainability. The spherical Bi2WO6/Bi2S3/MoS2 n-p heterojunction is first prepared via an in situ hydrothermal method using Bi2WO6, Na2MoO4·2H2O, and CH4N2S, in which the intermediate phase Bi2S3 is formed due to chemical coupling interaction of Bi2WO6 and CH4N2S. Scanning electron microscopy indicates that the compactness of the sample can be easily adjusted by changing the contents of S and Mo sources in the solution. The results of ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) diffuse reflectance spectra, photoluminescence, transient photocurrent response, and electrochemical impedance spectra indicate that the formation of heterojunctions contributes to enhancing visible-light utilization and promoting photogenerated carrier separation and transfer. The composite material is used as a catalyst for the visible light photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI). Remarkably, the optimal Bi2WO6/Bi2S3/MoS2 n-p heterojunction achieves the greatest Cr(VI) reduction rate of 100% within 75 min (λ 〉 420 nm, pH = 2); this rate is considerably better than the Cr(VI) reduction rate of pure Bi2WO6. The recycling experiment also reveals that the photocatalytic performance of the n-p heterojunction toward Cr(VI) is still maintained at 80% after three cycles, indicating that the n-p heterojunction has excellent structural stability. The capture experiment proves that the main active species in the system are electrons. The reasonable mechanism of Bi2WO6/Bi2S3/MoS2 photocatalytic reduction Cr(VI) is proposed. Our work provides new research ideas for the design of ternary heterojunction composites and new strategies for the development of photocatalysts for wastewater treatment.

Kurzfassung: Micro/nanostructured spherical materials have been widely explored for electrochemical energy storage due to their exceptional properties, which have also been summarized based on electrode type and material composition. The increased complexity of spherical structures has increased the feasibility of modulating their properties, thereby improving their performance compared with simple spherical structures. This paper comprehensively reviews the synthesis and electrochemical energy storage applications of micro/nanostructured spherical materials. After a brief classification, the concepts and syntheses of micro/nanostructured spherical materials are described in detail, which include hollow, core-shelled, yolk-shelled, double-shelled, and multi-shelled spheres. We then introduce strategies classified into hard-, soft-, and self-templating methods for synthesis of these spherical structures, and also include the concepts of synthetic methodologies. Thereafter, we discuss their applications as electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries and supercapacitors, and sulfur hosts for lithium–sulfur batteries. The superiority of multi-shelled hollow micro/nanospheres for electrochemical energy storage applications is particularly summarized. Subsequently, we conclude this review by presenting the challenges, development, highlights, and future directions of the micro/nanostructured spherical materials for electrochemical energy storage.

Kurzfassung: Varicella–zoster virus (VZV) is the causative agent of varicella and herpes zoster (HZ) and can pose a significant challenge to human health globally. The initial VZV infection—more common in children—causes a self-limiting chicken pox. However, in later life, the latent VZV can become reactivated in these patients, causing HZ and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), a serious and painful complication. VZV glycoprotein E (gE) has been developed into a licensed subunit vaccine against HZ (Shingrix). However, its efficacy relies on the concomitant delivery of a robust adjuvant (AS01B). Here, we sought to create a new immunogen for vaccine design by displaying the VZV–gE on the baculovirus surface (Bac–gE). Correct localization and display of gE on the engineered baculovirus was verified by flow cytometry and immune electron microscopy. We show that Bac–gE provides excellent antigenicity against VZV and induces not only stronger gE-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T cell responses but also higher levels of VZV–specific neutralizing antibodies as compared with other vaccine strategies in mice. Collectively, we show that the baculovirus display of VZV–gE confers ideal humoral and cellular immune responses required for HZ vaccine development, paving the way for a baculovirus-based vaccine design.

Kurzfassung: Soil organic carbon (SOC) strongly contributes to the operation of the global carbon cycling, and topographical factors largely influence its spatial distribution. However, SOC distribution and its leading topographical impact factors in subtropical forest ecosystems (e.g., the Zhejiang Province in China) have received relatively limited attention from researchers. In this study, 255 forest soil samples were collected from the Zhejiang Province to quantify the spatial variation in SOC and impact factors in subtropical forests. The SOC contents over soil profiles were 35.95 ± 22.58 g/kg, 20.98 ± 15.26 g/kg, and 13.77 ± 11.28 g/kg at depths of 0–10 cm, 10–30 cm, and 30–60 cm, respectively. The coefficient variations at different depths were 62.81% (0–10 cm), 72.74% (10–30 cm), and 81.92% (30–60 cm), respectively. SOC content shows a moderate intensity variation in the Zhejiang Province. The nugget coefficients of the SOC content for the three depths were 0.809 (0–10 cm), 0.846 (10–30 cm), and 0.977 (30–60 cm), respectively. Structural factors mainly influence SOC content. SOC content is positively correlated with elevation and slope, and negatively correlated with slope position (p 〈 0.05). However, the SOC content was negatively correlated with slope in mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forest. The distribution of the SOC content was relatively balanced between different slope positions. However, the differences became obvious when forest types were distinguished. Topographical factors affected the SOC content differently: elevation 〉 slope 〉 slope position. Slope becomes the main influencing factor in 30–60 cm soil. Forest type significantly influenced the SOC content but with a low statistical explanation compared to topographical factors. Topography has different effects on SOC of different forest types in subtropical forests. This reminds us that in future research, we should consider the combination of topography and forest types.

Kurzfassung: Pavements are closely related to the livelihoods of urban residents as an important part of the urban road system. Based on the early field measurements of our team, we found that plant spacing, pavement orientation, and pavement material influence the pavement thermal environment. Our objective was to quantitatively evaluate the influence of various factors on pavements in Guangzhou along West Zhonghuan Road, Guangzhou University. Based on our team’s previous research, environment-met (ENVI-MET) numerical simulation software was used to simulate pavements under different road orientations, underlying surface materials, and plant distances. Quantitative analysis of the effects of different factor combinations on the temperature, humidity, wind speed, physiological equivalent temperature (PET), and radiant temperature (Tmrt) was performed. The results show that among the various factors affecting the thermal environment of pavement, street tree spacing was found to have the greatest effect on the thermal environment of pavement. The effect of direction is negligible; however, it has a significant effect on the wind speed. There was no significant difference in the air temperature and relative humidity between concrete and asphalt. The average air temperature of red floor tile was slightly lower than that of asphalt and concrete. Reducing the spacing of street trees can effectively reduce the penetration of direct solar radiation, physiological equivalent temperature (PET), and temperature (Tmrt) and improve pedestrian walking comfort. The results can serve as a reference for pavement design in Guangzhou and improve the wellbeing of citizens and promote environmental sustainability.

Kurzfassung: In this work, novel selective recognition materials, namely magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (MMIPs), were prepared. The recognition materials were used as pretreatment materials for magnetic molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction (MSPE) to achieve the efficient adsorption, selective recognition, and rapid magnetic separation of methotrexate (MTX) in the patients’ plasma. This method was combined with high-performance liquid chromatography–ultraviolet detection (HPLC–UV) to achieve accurate and rapid detection of the plasma MTX concentration, providing a new method for the clinical detection and monitoring of the MTX concentration. The MMIPs for the selective adsorption of MTX were prepared by the sol–gel method. The materials were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform-infrared spectrometry, X-ray diffractometry, and X-ray photoelectron spectrometry. The MTX adsorption properties of the MMIPs were evaluated using static, dynamic, and selective adsorption experiments. On this basis, the extraction conditions were optimized systematically. The adsorption capacity of MMIPs for MTX was 39.56 mgg−1, the imprinting factor was 9.40, and the adsorption equilibrium time was 60 min. The optimal extraction conditions were as follows: the amount of MMIP was 100 mg, the loading time was 120 min, the leachate was 8:2 (v/v) water–methanol, the eluent was 4:1 (v/v) methanol–acetic acid, and the elution time was 60 min. MTX was linear in the range of 0.00005–0.25 mg mL−1, and the detection limit was 12.51 ng mL−1. The accuracy of the MSPE–HPLC–UV method for MTX detection was excellent, and the result was consistent with that of a drug concentration analyzer.

Kurzfassung: In recent years, cell membrane drug delivery systems have received increasing attention. However, drug-loaded membrane delivery systems targeting therapy in myocardial ischemia–reperfusion injury (MIRI) have been relatively rarely studied. The purpose of this study was to explore the protective effect of platelet-membrane-encapsulated Carvedilol on MIRI. We extracted platelets from the blood of adult SD rats and prepared platelet membrane vesicles (PMVs). Carvedilol, a nonselective β-blocker, was encapsulated into the PMVs. In order to determine the best encapsulation rate and drug-loading rate, three different concentrations of Carvedilol in low, medium, and high amounts were fused to the PMVs in different volume ratios (drugs/PMVs at 2:1, 1:1, 1:2, and 4:1) for determining the optimum concentration and volume ratio. By comparing other delivery methods, including abdominal injection and intravenous administration, the efficacy of PMVs-encapsulated drug-targeted delivery treatment was observed. The PMVs have the ability to target ischemic-damaged myocardial tissue, and the concentration and volume ratio at the optimum encapsulation rate and the drug-loading rate are 0.5 mg and 1:1. We verified that PMVs@Carvedilol had better therapeutic effects compared to other treatment groups, and immunofluorescence observation showed a significant improvement in the apoptosis indicators and infarction area of myocardial cells. Targeted administration of PMVs@Carvedilol may be a promising treatment for myocardial reperfusion injury, as it significantly improves postinjury cardiac function and increases drug utilization compared to other delivery methods.

Kurzfassung: Background: Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) causes long-term functional dependence and death. Early prediction of functional outcomes in aSAH patients with appropriate intervention strategies could lower the risk of poor prognosis. Therefore, we aimed to develop pre- and post-operative dynamic visualization nomograms to predict the 1-year functional outcomes of aSAH patients undergoing coil embolization. Methods: Data were obtained from 400 aSAH patients undergoing endovascular coiling admitted to the People’s Hospital of Hunan Province in China (2015–2019). The key indicator was the modified Rankin Score (mRS), with 3–6 representing poor functional outcomes. Multivariate logistic regression (MLR)-based visual nomograms were developed to analyze baseline characteristics and post-operative complications. The evaluation of nomogram performance included discrimination (measured by C statistic), calibration (measured by the Hosmer–Lemeshow test and calibration curves), and clinical usefulness (measured by decision curve analysis). Results: Fifty-nine aSAH patients (14.8%) had poor outcomes. Both nomograms showed good discrimination, and the post-operative nomogram demonstrated superior discrimination to the pre-operative nomogram with a C statistic of 0.895 (95% CI: 0.844–0.945) vs. 0.801 (95% CI: 0.733–0.870). Each was well calibrated with a Hosmer–Lemeshow p-value of 0.498 vs. 0.276. Moreover, decision curve analysis showed that both nomograms were clinically useful, and the post-operative nomogram generated more net benefit than the pre-operative nomogram. Web-based online calculators have been developed to greatly improve the efficiency of clinical applications. Conclusions: Pre- and post-operative dynamic nomograms could support pre-operative treatment decisions and post-operative management in aSAH patients, respectively. Moreover, this study indicates that integrating post-operative variables into the nomogram enhanced prediction accuracy for the poor outcome of aSAH patients.

Kurzfassung: The visual dimension measurement method based on non-splicing single lens has the contradiction between accuracy and range of measurement, which cannot be considered simultaneously. In this paper, a multi-camera cooperative measurement method without mechanical motion is proposed for the dimension measurement of thin slice workpiece. After the calibration of the multi-camera imaging system is achieved through a simple and efficient scheme, the high-precision dimension measurement with a large field of view can be completed through a single exposure. First, the images of the edges of the workpiece are compressed and combined by splitting and merging light through the multi-prism system, and the results are distributed to multiple cameras by changing the light path. Then, the mapping relationship between the global measurement coordinates and the image coordinates of each camera is established based on the globally unique M-array coding, and the image distortion is corrected by the coding unit composed of black and white blocks. Finally, the edge is located accurately by edge point detection at the sub-pixel level and curve fitting. The results of measuring a test workpiece with the dimension of 24 mm × 12 mm × 2 mm through a single exposure show that the repeated measurement accuracy can reach 0.2 µm and the absolute accuracy can reach 0.5 µm. Compared with other methods, our method can achieve the large-field measurement through only one exposure and without the mechanical movement of cameras. The measurement precision is higher and the speed is faster.
