Abstract: Hypertension is a global public health problem. To decrease its morbidity and mortality it needs lifelong treatment. There is a wide range of variation in the prices of antihypertensive drugs marketed in India. Thus, a study was planned to evaluate the difference in cost of different brands of same active drug by calculating percentage variation of cost. The cost of different brands of commonly used antihypertensive drugs was sorted out by referring latest CIMS, MIMS and Drug Today. The cost of 10 dosage forms (Tablets/Capsules) in INR of each brand, cost Ratio and percentage Cost Variation were calculated. Thepercentage variation in the cost was above 100% with most of single drug therapy for hypertension and is 42 out of 69. It’s found maximum in Atenolol (12.5mg) 880%, Amlodipine (5mg) 460%, Nifidipine (30mg) 456.29% and Diltiazem (90mg) 407.02%. Among the combination therapy percentage variation in the cost was above 100% in 16 out of 26. It’s found maximum in Lisinopril+Hydrochlorothiazide (5mg+12.5mg) 926%, Telmisartan+Hydrochlorothiazide (40mg+12.5mg) 254.75%, Amlodipine+Losartan (5mg+50mg) 246.96% and Amlodipine+Enalapril (5mg+5mg) 217.20%. The average percentage price variation of the same molecules of antihypertensive drugs manufactured by different pharmaceuticals company in India is very wide. So, government, pharmaceutical company, marketing manager and prescribing doctors should think about variation of cost and do needful for providing maximum benefits to the patients receiving antihypertensive drugs.

Abstract: Ovarian teratomas are the most common germ cell tumors and are classified as mature, immature and malignant. Mature cystic teratomas, also called dermoid cysts, are the most common germ cell tumour, accounting for upto 70% of benign ovarian masses in the reproductive years and 20% in postmenopausal women. Immature ovarian teratoma affects primarily younger patients and mature cystic teratomas seen in reproductive age groups. This case report provides a brief summary of the clinicopathological features of the ovarian teratomas such as, the immature teratoma which being a rare tumour was diagnosed in a 15 year old adolescent girl, managed surgically by laparotomy followed by chemotherapy, and the other case of a benign mature cystic teratoma in an elderly 52 year old postmenopausal woman, managed surgically although benign cystic teratomas are rare in the postmenopausal age group.

Abstract: Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was declared as pandemic by WHO on March 10, 2020. Several countries around the globe have seen a two-wave pattern of reported cases. India is witnessing unprecedented spike in COVID-19 cases again since March 2021 especially in Maharashtra. Newer insights in pathogenesis of diseases, diagnosis and treatment modalities continue to evolve in case of novel infection. To study and compare laboratory parameters in COVID cases in first wave in 2020. Retrospective cross-sectional observational study. Total 400 cases; 354 RTPCR and 46 RAT confirmed cases of COVID-19 done at dedicated COVID Hospital. Comparison of laboratory parameters was done between 72 Severe and 328 Non-Severe cases by unpaired t-test. Statistically significant differences were seen in severe cases as compared to non severe cases in Lymphocyte count, Eosinophil count, Neutrophil Lymphocyte Ratio, CRP, D-dimer, Ferritin levels. WBC count, Platelet count and ALT did not show significant difference between severe and non severe cases. Lymphopenia, raised N/L ratio, Eosinopenia, increased D-dimer, Ferritin, CRP are associated with severe COVID disease. The routine laboratory tests can diagnose the disease, predict prognosis and complications and monitor treatment response.

Abstract: Immunologic corneal allograft rejection represents one of the main cause for graft failure. This study was conducted to observe and comparing the beneficial effect of topical 0.03% tacrolimus on corneal graft survival. To compare the effect of topical 0.03% tacrolimus plus 1% topical prednisolone with 1% topical prednisolone alone in preventing rejection after PK. 40 patients were randomly allocated into two groups: Group A: patients received 0.03% topical tacrolimus ointment twice daily for a month plus 1% prednisolone acetate eye drops 2 hourly and tapered monthly. Group B: patients received 1% prednisolone acetate eye drop only 2 hourly and tapered monthly. The clinical outcomes were assessed in terms of post-op complications, graft rejection, and visual acuity after 6 months of follow-up.  SPSS software, 20.0 version, IBM, Chicago were used for statistical analysis. Out of 40 patients, 29 (72.5%) were male and 11(27.5%) were female. Type of surgery and continuous suture closure was found to be statistically significant (p-value & #60; 0.05) with post-op visual acuity in both groups. Types of graft rejection were found to be statistically significant (p-value & #60; 0.05) with enucleation transplantation time(hours) in both groups and with secondary glaucoma (p = & #60;0.001) in group A. We conclude that 0.03% topical tacrolimus ointment along with 1% topical prednisolone shows promising results and can be considered as an effective modality for preventing complications like secondary glaucoma, graft rejection, and getting the better visual outcome, where p-value ( & #60;0.05) was statistically significant. All patients should be instructed with regards to the reasonable use of topical tacrolimus to avoid any side effects.
