Abstract:
Melt-textured YBa 2 Cu 3 O y superconductor containing fine Y 2 BaCuO 5 inclusions (a few hundreds nanometers in size) was prepared by using of attrition-milled YBa 2 Cu 3 O y /Y 2 BaCuO 5 powder with 1 wt% CeO 2 addition. It is found that the combination of the CeO 2 addition and the mechanical milling of the powder mixture is effective in reducing Y 2 BaCuO 5 size. The critical current density ( J c ) of the sample containing fine Y 2 BaCuO 5 is higher than that of the sample containing coarse Y 2 BaCuO 5 . J c for H || c -axis of Y 1.8 Ba 2.4 Cu 3.4 O y with coarse Y 2 BaCuO 5 was 1.1×10 4 A/cm 2 and 0.56×10 4 A/cm 2 , while J c of Y 1.8 Ba 2.4 Cu 3.4 O y with fine Y 2 BaCuO 5 was 2.0×10 4 A/cm 2 and 1.16×10 4 A/cm 2 at 1 T, 2 T and 77 K, respectively.
