Abstract:
Structure of mixed halide glasses of ZnCl 2 -ZnBr 2 , ZnCl 2 -ZnI 2 and ZnX 2 -KX' (X, X'=C1, Br, I) systems was investigated by means of Zn K-edge, Br K-edge and I L 3 -edge EXAFS spectroscopy. The network structure of the ZnCl 2 -ZnBr 2 and ZnCl 2 -ZnI 2 glasses is composed of corner-sharing tetrahedral units, ZnCl n X 4-n (X=Br, I). The bond distances between zinc and halide ions are similar to those of the corresponding end members though they are slightly varied by the substitution of halide ion. The addition of K + ions introduces non-bridging halide ions and decreases the bond distance.
