    Abstract: Widely distributed radar network architectures can provide significant performance improvement for target detection and localization. For a fixed radar network, the achievable target detection performance may go beyond a predetermined threshold with full transmitted power allocation, which is extremely vulnerable in modern electronic warfare. In this paper, we study the problem of low probability of intercept (LPI) design for radar network and propose two novel LPI optimization schemes based on information-theoretic criteria. For a predefined threshold of target detection, Schleher intercept factor is minimized by optimizing transmission power allocation among netted radars in the network. Due to the lack of analytical closed-form expression for receiver operation characteristics (ROC), we employ two information-theoretic criteria, namely, Bhattacharyya distance and J-divergence as the metrics for target detection performance. The resulting nonconvex and nonlinear LPI optimization problems associated with different information-theoretic criteria are cast under a unified framework, and the nonlinear programming based genetic algorithm (NPGA) is used to tackle the optimization problems in the framework. Numerical simulations demonstrate that our proposed LPI strategies are effective in enhancing the LPI performance for radar network.

    Abstract: Psoralea corylifolia L. (Fabaceae) is a widely used medical plant in China. This study was designed to screen and identify bioactive compounds with anticancer activity from the seeds of Psoralea corylifolia L. One volatile fraction (fraction I) and three other fractions (fraction II, III, IV) from methanol extraction of P. corylifolia L. were obtained. Bioactivities of these fractions were evaluated by the cytotoxicity on KB, KBv200, K562, K562/ADM cancer cells with MTT assay. Major components in the active fraction were identified by HPLC/MS n . Fraction IV significantly inhibits the growth of cancer cells in a dose-dependent manner. The IC 50 values were 21.6, 24.4, 10.0 and 26.9, respectively. Psoralen and isopsoralen, isolated from fraction IV, were subject to bioactive assay and presented a dose-dependent anticancer activity in four cancer cell lines (KB, KBv200, K562 and K562/ADM). The IC 50 values of psoralen were 88.1, 86.6, 24.4 and 62.6, which of isopsoralen were 61.9, 49.4, 49.6 and 72.0, respectively. Apoptosis of tumor cell significantly increased after treated with psoralen and isopsoralen. Induction of apoptotic activity was confirmed by flow cytometry after staining with Annexin V/PI. These results suggested psoralen and isopsoralen contribute to anticancer effect of P. corylifolia L.

    Abstract: Background . The prognostic value of tumor deposit (TD) count in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients has been rarely evaluated. This study is aimed at exploring the prognostic value of TD count and finding out the optimal cutoff point of TD count to differentiate the prognoses of TD-positive CRC patients. Method . Patients diagnosed with CRC from Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database from January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2012, were analyzed. X-tile program was used to identify the optimal cutoff point of TD count in training cohort, and a validation cohort was used to test this cutoff point after propensity score matching (PSM). Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard models were used to assess the risk factors of survival. Results . X-tile plots identified 3 ( P 〈 0.001 ) as the optimal cutoff point of TD count to divide the patients of training cohort into high and low risk subsets in terms of disease-specific survival (DSS). This cutoff point was validated in validation cohort before and after PSM ( P 〈 0.001 , P = 0.002 ). More TD count, which was defined as more than 3, was validated as an independent risk prognostic factor in univariate and multivariate analysis ( P 〈 0.001 ). Conclusion . More TD count ( TD   count ≥ 4 ) was significantly associated with poor disease-specific survival in CRC patients.

    Abstract: A novel antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) carrier, polyethylenimine conjugated to linoleic acid (PEI-LA), was synthesized and evaluated for delivery of LOR-2501 to tumor cells. LOR-2501 is an ASO targeting ribonucleotide reductase R1 subunit (RRM1). In this study, PEI-LA was synthesized by reacting PEI (Mw ~ 800) with linoleoyl chloride. Gel retardation assay showed complete complexation between PEI-LA and LOR-2501 at N/P ratio above 8. No significant cytotoxicity was observed with these complexes at the tested dosage levels. Interestingly, at N/P ratio of 〉 6, levels of cellular uptake of PEI-LA/LOR-2501 were double that of PEI/LOR-2501 complexes of the same N/P ratio. PEI-LA/LOR-2501 induced downregulation of 64% and 70% of RRM1 at mRNA and protein levels, respectively. The highest transfection activity was shown by PEI-LA/LOR-2501 complexes at N/P ratio of 10. Finally, using pathway specific inhibitors, clathrin-mediated endocytosis was shown to be the principle mechanism of cellular internalization of these complexes. In conclusion, PEI-LA is a promising agent for the delivery of ASOs and warrants further investigation.

    Abstract: Purpose . To elucidate the characteristics and risk factors for positive biopsy outcomes in Chinese patients with prostate specific antigen (PSA) 4–10 ng/mL and develop a risk-stratification score model. Methods . The data of 345 patients who underwent transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy between 2011 and 2013 was retrospectively analyzed. Digital rectal examination (DRE), prostate volume (PV), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and smoking status were also collected. Positive biopsy outcomes were defined as prostate cancer (PCa) and high grade PCa (HGPCa, Gleason Score ≥ 7 ). Results . The median PSA was 7.15 (IQR 5.91–8.45) ng/mL. Overall 138 patients (40.0%) were shown to have PCa, including 100 patients (29.0%) with HGPCa. Smaller PV, elder age, MRI results, and positive DRE were proved to be predictive factors for positive biopsy outcomes in both univariate and multivariate analysis. We developed a “PAMD” score which combined the four factors to categorize patients into three risk groups, and the model performed good predictive sensitivity and specificity. Conclusion . The prevalence of prostate cancer in Chinese patients with PSA 4–10 ng/mL was 40%, including 29% patients with high grade disease. DRE, age, MRI, and PV were predictive factors for positive biopsy outcomes, and the PAMD score model could be utilized for risk-stratification and decision-making.

    Abstract: This paper is devoted to the numerical analysis of weak Galerkin mixed finite element method (WGMFEM) for solving a heat equation with random initial condition. To set up the finite element spaces, we choose piecewise continuous polynomial functions of degree j + 1 with j ≥ 0 for the primary variables and piecewise discontinuous vector-valued polynomial functions of degree j for the flux ones. We further establish the stability analysis of both semidiscrete and fully discrete WGMFE schemes. In addition, we prove the optimal order convergence estimates in L 2 norm for scalar solutions and triple-bar norm for vector solutions and statistical variance-type convergence estimates. Ultimately, we provide a few numerical experiments to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed schemes and theoretical analysis.

    Abstract: Isolated bilateral cerebral peduncular infarctions (BCPI) presenting as acute pseudobulbar palsy are rarely reported and, to the best of our knowledge, most of the previous reports of BCPI were related to locked-in syndrome and disturbance of consciousness. Herein, we described a case of a 55-year-old man who presented with acute pseudobulbar palsy and mild tetraparesis, but preserved eye movements, with no consciousness disturbance. DWI revealed an acute infarction involving the central portion of the cerebral peduncle with a characteristic “traditional Chinese eight character” sign. The relationship between the infarcted range in the cerebral peduncle and the clinical manifestation was discussed in our report.

    Abstract: Minimum correlated generalized Lp/Lq deconvolution (MCG-Lp/Lq-D) is an important tool to detect periodic impulses in vibration mixture. It is proved to be a more stable technique than maximum correlated kurtosis deconvolution (MCKD) to recover the fault impulse under strong noise conditions. However, MCG-Lp/Lq-D still has limitations. One of the necessary conditions for the success of MCG-Lp/Lq-D is to provide a precise period of fault. An imprecise prior period will lead to performance degradation or even failure of the method. Therefore, in this paper, a MCG-Lp/Lq-D with adaptive fault period estimation capability is proposed, adaptive minimum correlated generalized Lp/Lq deconvolution (AMCG-Lp/Lq-D). The proposed method uses the autocorrelation function of envelope signal to estimate the fault period adaptively in each iteration and then takes the estimated period as the input parameter of MCG-Lp/Lq-D for the next iteration optimization. The proposed method does not require precise prior fault period input, which greatly improves the fault recovery accuracy and application range of MCG-Lp/Lq-D. Eventually, simulated and experimental data verify the effectiveness and superiority of AMCG-Lp/Lq-D.
