Abstract: Neuroendoscopic (NE) surgery as a minimal invasive treatment for basal ganglia hemorrhage is a promising approach. The present study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of NE approach using an adjustable cannula to treat basal ganglia hemorrhage. In this study, we analysed the clinical and radiographic outcomes between NE group (21 cases) and craniotomy group (30 cases). The results indicated that NE surgery might be an effective and safe approach for basal ganglia haemorrhage, and it is also suggested that NE approach may improve good functional recovery. However, NE approach only suits the selected patient, and the usefulness of NE approach needs further randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to evaluate.

Abstract: The peach tree, Prunus persica (L.) Batsch, is widely cultivated in China, and its flowers have been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine to treat gut motility disorders. But few studies have explored the pharmacological effect of Prunus persica (L.) Batsch flowers on gastrointestinal motility. In this study, the activities of different extracts from Prunus persica (L.) Batsch flowers on the smooth muscle contractions were evaluated using isolated colon model, and the ethyl acetate extract (EAE) showed the strongest effects in vitro. EAE (10 −8 –10 −5  g/mL) caused a concentration-dependent stimulatory effect in rat colonic tissue. Additionally, ketotifen (100  µ M), cimetidine (10  µ M), and pyrilamine (1  µ M) produced a significant inhibition of contractions caused by EAE. Furthermore, immunofluorescence and toluidine blue staining revealed increased numbers of mast cells in the EAE group, and EAE increased histamine release from the colonic tissues. These data indicate that EAE has significant prokinetic activity and acts by a mechanism that mainly involves mast cell degranulation. Our study provides a pharmacological basis for the use of an extract of Prunus persica (L.) Batsch flowers in the treatment of gut motility disorders.

Abstract: We investigated the correlation between obestatin and metabolic parameters and carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) in plasma of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We collected 103 patients aged from 60 to 83 years (69.26 ± 5.83 years) form January, 2007 to May, 2009. All patients were divided into normal glucose tolerance (NGT), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), and T2DM according to the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). We found that higher levels of fasting insulin (Fins), fasting blood glucose, 2 h OGTT glucose, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), low density lipoprotein cholesterol, glycated haemoglobin, and C-reactive protein (CRP), as well as lower obestatin level and higher intima-media thickness level (IMT), existed in T2DM group compared with NGT group and IGT group ( P 〈 0.01 ). Also, obestatin level was independently associated with HOMA-IR and CRP, while IMT level was independently associated with HOMA-IR, triglyceride, Fins, and obestatin ( P 〈 0.01 ), based on stepwise multiple regression analysis. Therefore, we deduced that the low level of plasma obestatin might be related to early arteriosclerosis in patients with T2DM via increasing IMT level, and elevated plasma obestatin levels might protect T2DM patients against carotid atherosclerosis to some extent.

Abstract: Based on evolutionary game theory, this paper proposes a new information acquisition mechanism for intelligent mine construction, which solves the problem of incomplete information acquisition in the construction of new intelligent mining area and reduces the difficulty of information acquisition, which solves the problem of the imperfect mine information acquisition in the construction of a new smart mine regions and decreases the difficulty of a mine information acquisition. Based on the evolutionary game model, the perceptual incentive model based on group is established. The reliability of information collection is ensured by sharing and modifying the information collector. Through the analysis of the simulation results, it is found that the regional coverage model based on the cooperation in game theory and evolutionary game theory has a good effect on solving the bottleneck problem of the current intelligent mining area. This paper has an enlightening effect on the optimization of the mine information acquisition system. Through the improvement of the mine information acquisition system, the working efficiency of the information acquisition terminal can be effectively increased by 6%.

Abstract: Purpose. This study aims to determine whether IVIM-DWI combined with texture features based on preoperative IVIM-DWI could be used to predict the Ki-67 PI, which is a widely used cell proliferation biomarker in CSCC. Methods. A total of 70 patients were included. Among these patients, 16 patients were divided into the Ki-67 PI 〈 50% group and 54 patients were divided into the Ki-67 PI ≥50% group based on the retrospective surgical evaluation. All patients were examined using a 3.0T MRI unit with one standard protocol, including an IVIM-DWI sequence with 10 b values (0–1,500 sec/mm2). The maximum level of CSCC with a b value of 800 sec/mm2 was selected. The parameters (diffusion coefficient (D), microvascular volume fraction (f), and pseudodiffusion coefficient (D ∗ )) were calculated with the ADW 4.6 workstation, and the texture features based on IVIM-DWI were measured using GE AK quantitative texture analysis software. The texture features included the first order, GLCM, GLSZM, GLRLM, and wavelet transform features. The differences in IVIM-DWI parameters and texture features between the two groups were compared, and the ROC curve was performed for parameters with group differences, and in combination. Results. The D value in the Ki-67 PI ≥50% group was lower than that in the Ki-67 PI 〈 50% group ( P 〈 0.05 ). A total of 1,050 texture features were obtained using AK software. Through univariate logistic regression, mPMR feature selection, and multivariate logistic regression, three texture features were obtained: wavelet_HHL_GLRLM_ LRHGLE, lbp_3D_k_ firstorder_IR, and wavelet_HLH_GLCM_IMC1. The AUC of the prediction model based on the three texture features was 0.816, and the combined D value and three texture features was 0.834. Conclusions. Texture analysis on IVIM-DWI and its parameters was helpful for predicting Ki-67 PI and may provide a noninvasive method to investigate important imaging biomarkers for CSCC.

Abstract: A more comprehensive understanding of the complexity of pancreatic cancer pathobiology, especially, and understanding of the role of the tumor microenvironment (TME) in disease progression should pave the way for therapies to improve patient response rates. Previous studies reported that caveolin-1 (Cav-1) has both tumor-promoting and tumor-suppressive functions. However, the function of Cav-1 in the pancreatic cancer microenvironment remains largely unexplored. Here, we show that coinjection of Cav-1-silenced pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs) with pancreatic cancer cells increased tumor growth. To comprehensively characterize paracrine communication between pancreatic cancer cells and PSCs, PSCs were cultured with pancreatic cancer cell conditioned medium (CM) containing cytokines. We reveal that Cav-1-silenced PSCs facilitated the growth of pancreatic cancer cells via enhanced paracrine shh/MMP2/bFGF/IL-6 signaling. Specifically, Cav-1-silenced PSCs exhibited increased shh expression, which heterotypically activated the shh signaling pathway in pancreatic cancer cells. Moreover, Cav-1-deficient PSCs accumulated ROS to enhance the shh pathway and angiogenesis in pancreatic cancer cells. In addition, overexpression of Nrf2 reversed the effects of Cav-1 knockdown on PSCs, increasing ROS production and enhancing paracrine shh/MMP2/bFGF/IL-6 signaling. Together, our findings show that stromal Cav-1 may mediate different mechanisms in the complex interaction between cancer cells and their microenvironment though Nrf2-induced shh signaling activation during pancreatic cancer progression.

Abstract: The induction of inflammation and cytokine storm was proposed to play a critical role in COVID-19. This study is aimed at investigating the relationship between glucose metabolism and the inflammatory state of inpatients with COVID-19. 71 inpatients with COVID-19 were classified into nondiabetes mellitus (NDM) group, impaired fasting glucose (IFG) group, and diabetes mellitus (DM) group. The average hospitalization days were significantly shorter in DM patients when compared with patients in the IFG group and NDM group. CD4+ T cell percentage was higher while CD8+ T cells percentage was lower in the DM group than those in the NDM group. The serum levels of IL-6, IL-2, IL-10, and INF-γ in the DM group were upregulated when compared with those in the NDM group. The serum levels of TNF-α, IL-4, IL-2, IL-10, and INF-γ were significantly higher in the DM group than those in the IFG group. A significant difference was observed in CD4+ T cell, CD4+/CD8+ ratio percentage, IL-6, and IL-10 between the NDM group and DM group with adjusted BMI. In conclusion, COVID-19 patients with elevated glucose levels have promoted cytokine profiles and immune response.

Abstract: Background. Gastric carcinoma (GC) is a common lethal cancer in the world. Patients are prone to develop lower extremity deep venous thrombosis (LEDVT) after laparoscopic radical gastrectomy (LRG), which threatens their life and health. Purpose. This research is to clarify the preventive action of rivaroxaban (Riv) against LEDVT in patients undergoing LRG. Methods. A retrospective study was conducted on 70 patients with GC admitted for LRG between January 2019 and January 2022, including 40 patients (observation group) receiving Riv treatment and 30 patients (conventional group) treated with air wave pressure therapy apparatus. Quality of life, coagulation function, LEDVT formation, and complications were compared between groups. Results. The observation group had better recovery of life quality than the control group, along with more effective inhibition of coagulation disorders, less DVT formation, and fewer complications. Conclusions. Compared with air wave pressure therapy apparatus, Riv has better preventive action against LEDVT in GC patients after LRG.

Abstract: Background. Diaphanous related formin 1 (DIAPH1) is a novel component of advanced glycation end product (AGE) signal transduction that was recently found to participate in diabetes-related disorders, obesity, and androgen hormones. We investigated whether plasma DIAPH1 levels were a potential prognostic predictor for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Methods. The levels of circulating plasma DIAPH1 and indicators of glucose, insulin, lipid metabolism, liver enzymes, kidney function, sex hormones, and inflammation were measured in 75 patients with PCOS and 77 healthy participants. All of the participants were divided into normal-weight (NW) and overweight/obese (OW) subgroups. Statistical analyses were performed with R studio. Results. PCOS patients manifested hyperandrogenism, increased luteinizing hormone/follicle-stimulating hormone (LH/FSH), and accumulated body fat and insulin resistance. Plasma DIAPH1 levels were significantly decreased in women with PCOS compared to control participants, and DIAPH1 levels were distinctly reduced in OW PCOS compared to OW control subjects ( P 〈 0.001 ). DIAPH1 levels correlated with fasting blood glucose (FBG), total cholesterol (TC), the homeostasis model assessment of β-cell function (HOMA-β), and LH/FSH in all participants (FBG: r = 0.351 , P 〈 0.0001 ; TC: r = 0.178 , P = 0.029 ; HOMA-β: r = − 0.211 , P = 0.009 ; LH/FSH: r = − 0.172 , P = 0.040 ). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that plasma DIAPH1 levels were an independent risk factor for PCOS. A model containing DIAPH1, BMI, FBG, and testosterone was constructed to predict the risk of PCOS, with a sensitivity of 92.0% and a specificity of 80.9%. A nomogram was constructed to facilitate clinical diagnosis. Conclusions. These findings suggest the association of plasma DIAPH1 with glucose metabolism, insulin resistance, and sex hormones and support DIAPH1 as a potential predictive factor for PCOS.

Abstract: Background. Novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), an acute respiratory disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), rapidly progressed to a global pandemic. Currently, there are limited effective medications approved for this deadly disease. Objective. To investigate the potential predictors of COVID-19 mortality and risk factors for hyperinflammation in COVID-19. Methods. Retrospective analysis was carried out in 1,149 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 in Tongji Hospital, Wuhan, China, from 1/13/2020 to 3/15/2020. Results. We found significant differences in the rates of hyperuricemia (OR: 3.17, 95% CI: 2.13-4.70; p 〈 0.001 ) and hypoalbuminemia (OR: 5.68, 95% CI: 3.97-8.32; p 〈 0.001 ) between deceased and recovered patients. The percentages of hyperuricemia in deceased patients and recovered patients were 23.6% and 8.9%, respectively, which were higher than the reported age-standardized prevalence of 6.2% in Chinese population. Of note, the percentages of both IL-6 and uric acid levels in survived COVID-19 patients were above 90%, suggesting that they might be good specificity for indicators of mortality in COVID-19 patients. The serum level of uric acid (UA) was positively associated with ferritin, TNF-α, and IL-6 but not with anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10. In addition, the levels of these proinflammatory cytokines in COVID-19 patients showed a trend of reduction after uric acid lowering therapy. Conclusions. Our results suggest that uric acid, the end product of purine metabolism, was increased in deceased patients with COVID-19. In addition, the serum level of uric acid was positively associated with inflammatory markers. Uric acid lowering therapy in COVID-19 patients with hyperuricemia may be beneficial.
