    Abstract: It is a dangerous behaviour for pedestrians and nonmotorized vehicles to cross intersections without waiting when they arrive at intersections during the red-light period. This paper investigates three typical signalized major-major intersections in the center of Beijing, by collecting and analyzing 1368 samples of pedestrians and nonmotorized vehicles. A random parameter logit model (RPLM) is established, with immediate red-light running (IRLR) behaviour as the dependent variable. The results show that the number of people waiting upon arrival, number of people crossing upon arrival, traffic mode, motor vehicle phase upon arrival, and speed change upon arrival have significant effects on IRLR behaviour. Accordingly, we suggest enforcing education administration on cyclists to reduce cyclists’ IRLR behaviour. Thus, people’s red-light running (RLR) behaviour will further decrease with fewer cyclists’ IRLR behaviour.

    Abstract: Objectives. Diabetic wound inflammation deficiencies lead to ulcer development and eventual amputation and disability. Our previous research demonstrates that myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) accumulate during inflammation and promote chronic wound healing via the regulation of Kruppel-like factor 4 (KLF4). In this study, we aimed to investigate the potential roles of MDSCs and KLF4 in diabetic wound healing. Methods. An ob/ob mouse pressure ulcer (PU) model was used to evaluate the process of wound healing. The expression levels of KLF4 and IL-17A were measured by real-time PCR, and the population of MDSCs and Th17 cells was measured by flow cytometry. The levels of cytokines were determined by an immunosuppression assay. Results. KLF4 deficiency in the diabetic PU model resulted in decreased accumulation of MDSCs, increased expansion of Th17 cells, and significantly delayed wound healing. Conversely, KLF4 activation by APTO-253 accelerated wound healing accompanied by increased MDSC populations and decreased numbers of Th17 cells. MDSCs have been proven to mediate Th17 differentiation via cytokines, and our in vitro data showed that elevated KLF4 expression in MDSCs resulted in reduced Th17 cell numbers and, thus, decreased levels of cytokines indispensable for Th17 differentiation. Conclusions. Our study revealed a previously unreported function of KLF4-regulated MDSCs in diabetic wound healing and identified APTO-253 as a potential agent to improve the healing of pressure ulcers.

    Abstract: Smart mobile devices are playing a more and more important role in our daily life. Cancelable biometrics is a promising mechanism to provide authentication to mobile devices and protect biometric templates by applying a noninvertible transformation to raw biometric data. However, the negative effect of nonlinear distortion will usually degrade the matching performance significantly, which is a nontrivial factor when designing a cancelable template. Moreover, the attacks via record multiplicity (ARM) present a threat to the existing cancelable biometrics, which is still a challenging open issue. To address these problems, in this paper, we propose a new cancelable fingerprint template which can not only mitigate the negative effect of nonlinear distortion by combining multiple feature sets, but also defeat the ARM attack through a proposed feature decorrelation algorithm. Our work is a new contribution to the design of cancelable biometrics with a concrete method against the ARM attack. Experimental results on public databases and security analysis show the validity of the proposed cancelable template.

    Abstract: This paper studies the effect mechanism of water inertia and head loss of penstock on stability and regulation quality of turbine regulating system with surge tank or not and proposes the construction method of equivalent model of regulating system. Firstly, the complete linear mathematical model of regulating system is established. Then, the free oscillation equation and time response of the frequency that describe stability and regulation quality, respectively, are obtained. Finally, the effects of penstock are analysed by using stability region and response curves. The results indicate that the stability and regulation quality of system without surge tank are determined by time response of frequency which only depends on water hammer wave in penstock, while, for system with surge tank, the time response of frequency depending on water hammer wave in penstock and water-level fluctuation in surge tank jointly determines the stability and regulation quality. Water inertia of penstock mainly affects the stability and time response of frequency of system without surge tank as well as the stability and head wave of time response of frequency with surge tank. Head loss of penstock mainly affects the stability and tail wave of time response of frequency with surge tank.

    Abstract: Galangin, a natural flavonoid product derived from the root of galangal, is emerging as a promising anticancer agent against multiple cancers. Yet, whether it also has antitumor effects on cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) and the underlying mechanism is still unknown. Herein, we demonstrate that galangin exhibits multiple antitumor effects on CCA cells including decreases cell viability; inhibits proliferation, migration, and invasion; and induces apoptosis. Moreover, those phenotypic changes are associated with downregulated microRNA-21 (miR-21) expression. To support, overexpression of miR-21 blocks galangin-mediated antisurvival and metastasis effects on CCA cells. Mechanically, galangin increases the expression of phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN), a direct target of miR-21, resulting in decreased phosphorylation of AKT, a protein kinase which plays a critical role in controlling survival and apoptosis. In contrast, overexpression of miR-21 abrogates galangin-regulated PTEN expression and AKT phosphorylation. Taken together, these findings indicate that galangin inhibits CCA cell proliferation and metastasis and induces cell apoptosis through a miR-21-dependent manner, and galangin may provide a novel potential therapeutic adjuvant to treat CCA.

    Abstract: Aircraft, as one of the indispensable transport tools, plays an important role in military activities. Therefore, it is a significant task to locate the aircrafts in the remote sensing images. However, the current object detection methods cause a series of problems when applied to the aircraft detection for the remote sensing image, for instance, the problems of low rate of detection accuracy and high rate of missed detection. To address the problems of low rate of detection accuracy and high rate of missed detection, an object detection method for remote sensing image based on bidirectional and dense feature fusion is proposed to detect aircraft targets in sophisticated environments. On the fundamental of the YOLOv3 detection framework, this method adds a feature fusion module to enrich the details of the feature map by mixing the shallow features with the deep features together. Experimental results on the RSOD-DataSet and NWPU-DataSet indicate that the new method raised in the article is capable of improving the problems of low rate of detection accuracy and high rate of missed detection. Meanwhile, the AP for the aircraft increases by 1.57% compared with YOLOv3.

    Abstract: ErMiao San (EMS) is composed of the Cortex Phellodendri chinensis and Atractylodes lancea , and it has the function of eliminating heat and excreting dampness in terms of traditional Chinese medicine to damp heat syndrome. Previous reports indicate that EMS possesses anti-inflammatory activity; however, its action on angiogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has not been clarified. The present study aims to determine the antiangiogenic activity of EMS in collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mice and in various angiogenesis models. Our data showed that EMS (5 g/kg) markedly reduced the immature blood vessels in synovial membrane tissues of inflamed joints from CIA mice. It also inhibited vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-induced microvessel sprout formation ex vivo . Meanwhile, EMS suppressed VEGF-induced migration, invasion, adhesion, and tube formation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Moreover, EMS significantly reduced the expression of angiogenic activators including interleukin (IL)-1 β , IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF- α ) in synovium of CIA mice. More interestingly, EMS blocked the autophosphorylation of VEGF-induced JAK1, STAT1, and STAT6 in CIA mice and VEGF-induced HUVECs. These findings suggest for the first time that EMS possesses the antiangiogenic effect in RA in vivo, ex vivo , and in vitro by interrupting the targeting of JAK/STAT activation.

    Abstract: Previous studies have demonstrated associations of ANTXR2 gene polymorphisms with ankylosing spondylitis (AS). These associations differ depending on the ethnic populations and AS subgroups studied. Purposes of the current study were to evaluate the associations of 4 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the ANTXR2 gene with susceptibility to AS alone or AS in combination with acute anterior uveitis (AAU) in Chinese Han. Therefore, a case-control association study was performed in 880 AS + AAU - , 860 AS + AAU + , and 1700 healthy controls. Genotyping was performed using the iPLEXGold genotyping assay. Our results showed a weak association of rs6534639 AA genotype with AS + AAU + patients (p=0.042), which was lost after correction for multiple comparisons. No other association was found between SNPs of ANTXR2 and susceptibility of AS + AAU - or AS + AAU + . A meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the associations of polymorphisms in the ANTXR2 gene with AS. Results showed a weak association of rs4389526 with AS susceptibility in all studies but failed to show an association of rs6534639 with AS in Chinese Han. Taken together, this study shows no association between ANTXR2 polymorphisms and AS susceptibility in a Chinese Han population, but meta-analysis showed that rs4389526 in the ANTXR2 gene was weakly associated with AS susceptibility in both Caucasian and Chinese Han patients.

    Abstract: Tumor immune escape plays an essential role in both cancer progression and immunotherapy responses. For prostate cancer (PC), however, the molecular mechanisms that drive its different immune phenotypes have yet to be fully elucidated. Patient gene expression data were analyzed from The Cancer Genome Atlas-prostate adenocarcinoma (TCGA-PRAD) and the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) databases. We used a Cell-type Identification by Estimating Relative Subsets of RNA Transcripts (CIBERSORT) analysis and an unsupervised clustering analysis to identify patient subgroups with distinct immune phenotypes. These distinct phenotypes were then explored for associations for differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and both epigenetic and genetic landscapes. Finally, we used a protein-protein interaction analysis to identify key hub genes. We identified two patient subgroups with independent immune phenotypes associated with the expression of Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1). Patient samples in Cluster 1 ( C 1 ) had higher scores for immune-cell subsets compared to Cluster 2 ( C 2 ), and C 2 samples had higher specific somatic mutations, MHC mutations, and genomic copy number variations compared to C 1 . We also found additional cluster phenotype differences for DNA methylation, microRNA (miRNA) expression, and long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) expression. Furthermore, we established a 4-gene model to distinguish between clusters by integrating analyses for DEGs, lncRNAs, miRNAs, and methylation. Notably, we found that glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) might serve as a key hub gene within the genetic and epigenetic regulatory networks. These results improve our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying tumor immune phenotypes that are associated with tumor immune escape. In addition, GFAP may be a potential biomarker for both PC diagnosis and prognosis.
