Abstract: We study the sequence spaces and the spaces of functions defined on interval 0,1 in this paper. By a new summation method of sequences, we find out some new sequence spaces that are interpolating into spaces between ℓ p and ℓ q and function spaces that are interpolating into the spaces between the polynomial space P 0,1 and C ∞ 0,1 . We prove that these spaces of sequences and functions are Banach spaces.

In: Journal of Diabetes Research, Hindawi Limited, Vol. 2014 ( 2014), p. 1-6
Abstract: The aim of the study was to assess serum fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) concentrations in Chinese type 2 diabetic patients with and without retinopathy and to assess the association between FGF21 and the severity of retinopathy. 117 diabetic patients were compared with 68 healthy controls. Fasting blood glucose, serum total cholesterol, serum triglycerides, serum insulin, and serum FGF21 levels were estimated. FGF21 concentrations in the patients were significantly higher than those in control. In the patient group there was a significant positive correlation between FGF21, insulin level, and homeostasis model assessment index. Serum FGF21 concentrations in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy or nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy were significantly higher than those in patients without diabetic retinopathy. When the presence of diabetes was defined as the final variable in the conditional logistic regression model with the FGF21 concentration as the continuous variable, FGF21 was significantly involved in the model. This study shows that the increase in serum concentration of FGF21 was associated with the severity of diabetic retinopathy and suggests that FGF21 may play a role in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy and its degree.

Abstract: Amyloid-β (Aβ) deposition plays a crucial role in the occurrence and development of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and impaired Aβ clearance is the leading cause of Aβ deposition. Recently, studies have found that the glymphatic system performs similar functions to the peripheral lymphatic system. Glymphatic fluid transport mainly consists of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) entering the brain from the paravascular space (PVS) by penetrating arteries and CSF and interstitial fluid exchanging mediated by aquaporin-4 (AQP4). This system promotes the drainage of interstitial fluid (ISF) in the parenchyma and removes metabolic waste, including Aβ, in the brain. Glymphatic system dysfunction plays an essential role in the occurrence and progression of AD. Regulation of glymphatic fluid transport may be a critical target for AD therapy. This study explored the regulatory effects of continuous theta-burst stimulation (CTBS) on the glymphatic system in APPswe/PS1dE9 (APP/PS1) mice with two-photon imaging. The results demonstrated that CTBS could increase glymphatic fluid transport, especially CSF and ISF exchange, mediated by improved AQP4 polarization. In addition, the accelerated glymphatic pathway reduced Aβ deposition and enhanced spatial memory cognition. It provided new insight into the clinical prevention and treatment of Aβ deposition-related diseases.

Abstract: Fish in natural and cultivated environments can be challenged by starvation. However, inducing starvation in a controlled manner cannot only reduce feed consumption but also reduces aquatic eutrophication and even improves farmed fish quality. This study investigated the effects of starvation on the muscular function, morphology, and regulatory signaling in javelin goby (Synechogobius hasta) by evaluating the biochemical, histological, antioxidant, and transcriptional changes in the musculature of S. hasta subjected to 3, 7, and 14 days fasting. The muscle glycogen and triglyceride levels in S. hasta were gradually reduced under starvation, reaching their lowest at the end of the trial ( P 〈 0.05 ). The levels of glutathione and superoxide dismutase were significantly elevated after 3–7 days of starvation ( P 〈 0.05 ), but later returned to the level of the control group. The muscle of starved S. hasta developed structural abnormalities in some areas after 7 days of food deprivation, and more vacuolation and more atrophic myofibers were observed in 14-day fasted fish. The transcript levels of stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (scd1), the key gene involved in the biosynthesis of monounsaturated fatty acids, were markedly lower in the groups starved for 7 or more days ( P 〈 0.05 ). However, the relative expressions of genes associated with lipolysis were decreased in the fasting experiment ( P 〈 0 .05). Similar declines in the transcriptional response to starvation were found in muscle fatp1 and ppar γ abundance ( P 〈 0.05 ). Furthermore, the de novo transcriptome of muscle tissue from the control, 3-day and 14-day starved S. hasta generated 79,255 unigenes. The numbers of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) identified by pairwise comparisons among three groups were 3276, 7354, and 542, respectively. The enrichment analysis revealed that the DEGs were primarily involved in metabolism-related pathways, including ribosome, TCA pathway, and pyruvate metabolism. Moreover, the qRT-PCR results of 12 DEGs validated the expression trends observed in the RNA-seq data. Taken together, these findings demonstrated the specific phenotypical and molecular responses of muscular function and morphology in starved S. hasta, which may offer preliminary reference data for optimizing operational strategies incorporating fasting/refeeding cycles in aquaculture.

Abstract: Biomedical application potentials of carbon nanotubes-based materials have been investigated intensively in recent years; however, characterization and metrology are still facing great technical challenges when the materials are intended to be used as carriers for therapeutics in aqueous solutions. Systematic characterization on the dispersing carbon nanotubes is urgently required and therefore of significance. In this paper multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with different average lengths or with different oxidation degrees were dispersed in water and characterized systematically by applying UV spectroscopy, SEM, DLS, TGA, XPS, and FTIR. In particular, the characteristic absorption of the carbon nanotubes was analyzed using resolution-fitting technique to establish relations of wavelength and absorption intensity to the size distribution and surface chemistry. Results indicated that the absorption spectra of MWCNTs could reflect the variation of surface chemistry and length distribution of carbon nanotubes dispersed in water by combining with the other measurements. A vascular endothelium cell line was taken as a model to figure out association between physicochemical features and cytotoxicity of the carbon nanotubes. It was showed that the multiwalled carbon nanotubes with different oxidation degrees and similar length distribution exhibited different interaction files to the cells proliferation in a manner of time dependence and concentration dependence.

Abstract: The peach tree, Prunus persica (L.) Batsch, is widely cultivated in China, and its flowers have been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine to treat gut motility disorders. But few studies have explored the pharmacological effect of Prunus persica (L.) Batsch flowers on gastrointestinal motility. In this study, the activities of different extracts from Prunus persica (L.) Batsch flowers on the smooth muscle contractions were evaluated using isolated colon model, and the ethyl acetate extract (EAE) showed the strongest effects in vitro. EAE (10 −8 –10 −5  g/mL) caused a concentration-dependent stimulatory effect in rat colonic tissue. Additionally, ketotifen (100  µ M), cimetidine (10  µ M), and pyrilamine (1  µ M) produced a significant inhibition of contractions caused by EAE. Furthermore, immunofluorescence and toluidine blue staining revealed increased numbers of mast cells in the EAE group, and EAE increased histamine release from the colonic tissues. These data indicate that EAE has significant prokinetic activity and acts by a mechanism that mainly involves mast cell degranulation. Our study provides a pharmacological basis for the use of an extract of Prunus persica (L.) Batsch flowers in the treatment of gut motility disorders.

Abstract: Artificial neural networks have achieved a great success in simulating the information processing mechanism and process of neuron supervised learning, such as classification. However, traditional artificial neurons still have many problems such as slow and difficult training. This paper proposes a new dendrite neuron model (DNM), which combines metaheuristic algorithm and dendrite neuron model effectively. Eight learning algorithms including traditional backpropagation, classic evolutionary algorithms such as biogeography-based optimization, particle swarm optimization, genetic algorithm, population-based incremental learning, competitive swarm optimization, differential evolution, and state-of-the-art jSO algorithm are used for training of dendritic neuron model. The optimal combination of user-defined parameters of model has been systemically investigated, and four different datasets involving classification problem are investigated using proposed DNM. Compared with common machine learning methods such as decision tree, support vector machine, k-nearest neighbor, and artificial neural networks, dendritic neuron model trained by biogeography-based optimization has significant advantages. It has the characteristics of simple structure and low cost and can be used as a neuron model to solve practical problems with a high precision.

Abstract: Interleukin-17 (IL-17) is closely related to osteoarthritis (OA), but animal studies that employ IL-17 to induce OA are currently lacking. Therefore, this study evaluated the effect of IL-17 in the rabbit knee joint. The right knees served as the control group. The left knees were divided randomly into 4 groups: a Hulth group and 3 IL-17 groups (1-ng, 10-ng, and 50-ng groups). OA was induced in the Hulth group using Hulth’s method. The IL-17 groups were injected with 1, 10, or 50 ng of IL-17 as indicated. Specimens were collected at 72 h, 1 week, 3 weeks, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks after surgery or the last injection. Subsequently, the following experiments were conducted: X-ray analysis, histological evaluation, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis of the mRNA expression levels of cartilage degeneration-related markers. At 12 weeks, like the Hulth group, the 10-ng and 50-ng IL-17 groups displayed typical manifestations of OA. The X-ray results, histological scores, and mRNA expression levels showed statistically significant differences between the control group and the 10-ng and 50-ng IL-17 groups. In sum, injecting 10 ng of IL-17 into the rabbit knee joint can induce OA similar to OA induced by Hulth’s method.

Abstract: Background . The World Health Organization approved the use of Xpert MTB/RIF for the detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis DNA, which has significantly improved the diagnosis of tuberculosis. In this study, our main objective was to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of Xpert MTB/RIF for lymphoid tuberculosis to determine whether Xpert MTB/RIF could be used as a routine detection method. Materials and Methods . We searched four databases for the relevant literature published from May 2007 to December 2019. The quality of the literature was evaluated with reference to the evaluation criteria. Data that were extracted from the literature on Xpert MTB/RIF diagnosis of lymphatic tuberculosis were used to plot the summary receiver operating characteristic (SROC) curve, after which the software was used to combine and analyze the accuracy of these data. Results . A total of 27 studies were included. The sensitivity of Xpert MTB/RIF for detecting lymphatic tuberculosis was 0.79 (95% CI (0.77, 0.81)), the specificity was 0.88 (95% CI (0.87, 0.90)), and the positive likelihood ratio (PLR) was 7.21 (95% CI (4.93, 10.55)). In addition, the negative likelihood ratio (NLR) was 0.25 (95% CI (0.19, 0.32)) and the diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) was 40.23 (95% CI (24.53, 65.98)). At the same time, we used the extracted data to make the SROC curve, obtaining the following parameters: area   under   the   curve   AUC = 0.9144 , Q = 0.8470 ( SE = 0.0163 ). Conclusion . Xpert MTB/RIF has high accuracy in detecting lymphatic tuberculosis, and it can be used to quickly and easily diagnose lymphatic tuberculosis at an early stage as a general method.
