Abstract: A thin endometrium affects the success of assisted reproduction due to low endometrial receptivity. Acupuncture improves endometrial receptivity and promotes the formation of pinopodes, the ultrastructure marker implantation window. However, the specific underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, the efficacy of acupuncture treatment and its underlying mechanism were investigated by analyzing pregnancy rate, pinopode formation, and related molecular markers in thin endometrium model rats. Absolute ethanol (95%) was injected into the uteruses of female Sprague-Dawley rats to construct a thin endometrium model. In this model, acupuncture stimulation at EX-CA1, SP6, and CV4 ameliorated the pregnancy rate. Significantly increased embryo implantation, endometrial thickness, numbers of glands, and blood vessels were observed in the electroacupuncture (EA) group compared to the model group. The number of pinopodes in the EA group was abundant, with a shape similar to that of the control group. Additionally, significantly higher expression levels of pinopode-related markers, including integrin αvβ3, homeobox A10 (HOXA10), heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor (HBEGF), estrogen receptor alpha (ERα), and progesterone receptor (PR), were observed in the EA group than those in the model group. In conclusion, EA had a positive effect on the endometrial receptivity of thin endometrium model rats by improving pinopode formation through multiple molecular targets.

Abstract: Based on land use classification system, this paper acquires the land use distribution status at 2000, 2005, and 2010 in Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan Region using remote sensing images, field survey data, images in Google Earth, and visual interpretation methods. Then, the land use transformation rules from 2000 to 2010 are achieved using GIS (geographic information system) technology. The research results shows the following: (1) as to the distribution area of the land use types, dry field has the largest area, followed by forest land, building land, paddy field, water area, grassland, and unused land; (2) from 2000 to 2010, the area of building land has the largest increase, which is mainly transformed from cropland and sea reclamation area; the largest decreased land use type is paddy field, which mainly transforms to dry field and building land; (3) the high increase of building land and decrease of cropland suggest the land use transformation in the quick development process of economy; meanwhile, the total area of forestland and grassland changes little, so the ecological environment does not have apparent deterioration in the 1st decade of the new century.

Abstract: This paper describes a simple, rapid, and effective quality assessment method for Fructus Schisandrae by gas chromatography-mass spectrum (GC-MS). The method was established by using specific lignan fingerprint profiles and quantitation of characteristic compounds in this herbal medicine. The GC-MS fingerprints of 15 batches of Schisandra samples from different regions of China showed similar lignan profiles. Five peaks were selected as characteristic peaks, and all of these were identified by using GC-MS techniques. The relative retention times of these characteristic peaks in the GC-MS fingerprint were established as an important parameter for identification of Schisandra samples. Meanwhile, relative peak areas may be a feasible approach to discriminate the S. chinensis and S. sphenanthera . Finally, these pharmacologically active constituents in the titled plant, schisandrins A–C and schizandrols A and B, were quantitatively determined using a validated GC-MS method.

Abstract: Background. Chromebox protein homolog 3 (CBX3) as a member of the heterochromatin-associated protein 1 (HP1) family has been reported to be overexpressed in human cancer tissues. Numerous studies have shown the relationship between the CBX3 expression and clinicopathological factor or prognosis in malignant tumors, but their results are inconsistent. To address these results, a meta-analysis was described to investigate the prognostic value and clinicopathological significance of CBX3 expression in human malignant neoplasms. Methods. PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) were used to search eligible literatures, including publications prior to September 2019. The role of CBX3 in cancer prognosis and clinicopathological characteristics was assessed by pooled hazard ratios (HRs) and odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results. Eleven studies with 1682 cancer patients were enrolled in this meta-analysis. This analysis demonstrated that the patients’ increased CBX3 expression was significantly associated with poor overall survival (OS) (univariate analysis: HR = 1.81 , 95% CI 1.46-2.25; multivariate analysis: HR = 1.95 , 95% CI 1.63-2.34). Subgroups analysis by tumor type also indicated that high expression of CBX3 was correlated with poor OS in tongue squamous cell carcinoma ( HR = 3.31 , 95% CI 2.03-5.39), lung cancer ( HR = 1.66 , 95% CI 1.21-2.29), genitourinary cancer ( HR = 2.03 , 95% CI 1.15-3.58), and digestive cancer ( HR = 1.48 , 95% CI 1.23-1.79). For clinicopathological features, high expression of CBX3 was associated with lymph node metastasis ( OR = 2.96 , 95% CI 1.42-6.20) and lager tumor size ( OR = 1.60 , 95% CI 1.12-2.28). Conclusion. The results of this meta-analysis indicated that CBX3 expression may be a novel biomarker for predicting patient prognosis and clinicopathological parameters in multiple human cancer.

Abstract: Based on an improved active element pattern (AEP) technique, a novel effective method for sidelobe suppression considering mutual coupling (MC) in planar and conformal sparse arrays is proposed in this paper. A thinning and weighting process that includes the thinning module, optimization module, and far-field calculation module is presented, and three key points, namely, the modified AEP modeling, far-field calculation of planar and conformal thinned arrays, and modified thinning strategy, are highlighted. As an effective optimization algorithm, the differential evolution algorithm (DEA) is adopted in order to achieve low sidelobe. Several numerical examples are shown to validate the consistency and effectiveness of the proposed synthesis approach. With the first use of the AEP technique for the synthesis of sparse arrays, the planar and conformal microstrip arrays with the desired array filling factor are studied to obtain the expected sidelobe level (SLL).

Abstract: Recently, some promising advances have been achieved in understanding the chemistry, pharmacology, and action mechanisms of constituents from genus Caulophyllum . Despite this, there is to date no systematic review of those of genus Caulophyllum . This review covers naturally occurring alkaloids and saponins and those resulting from synthetic novel taspine derivatives. The paper further discussed several aspects of this genus, including pharmacological properties, mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetics, and cell membrane chromatography for activity screening. The aim of this paper is to provide a point of reference for pharmaceutical researchers to develop new drugs from constituents of Caulophyllum plants.

Abstract: Purpose. There has been mounting evidence that Dendrobium officinale polysaccharides (DOP), a traditional Chinese medicine, are a potential candidate treatment for N-methyl-N′-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine- (MNNG-) induced precancerous lesions of gastric cancer (PLGC). However, the underlying mechanisms have not been adequately addressed. Method. We utilized RNA-Seq analysis to investigate possible molecular targets and then used Venn software to identify the differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Further, we analyzed these DEGs with core analysis, upstream analysis, and interaction network analysis by IPA software and validated the DEGs by real-time PCR and Western blot. Result. 78 DEGs were identified from the normal control group (CON), the PLGC model group (MOD), and the DOP-treated group (DOP) by the Venn software. Further analysis of these DEGs, including core analysis, upstream analysis, and interaction network analysis, was performed by Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA). The main canonical pathways involved were SPINK1 Pancreatic Cancer Pathway (−log ( P value) = 4.45, ratio = 0.0667) and Circadian Rhythm Signaling (−log ( P value) = 2.33, ratio = 0.0606). Circadian Rhythm Signaling was strongly upregulated in the model group versus the DOP group. CLOCK was predicted to be strongly activated (z-score = 2.236) in upstream analysis and induced the downstream PER3. In addition, the relative mRNA expression levels of seven DEGs (CD2AP, ECM1, AQP4, PER3, CMTM4, ESRRG, and KCNJ15) from RT-PCR agreed with RNA-Seq data from MOD versus CON and MOD versus DOP groups. The gene and protein expression levels of PER3 and AQP4 were significantly downregulated in the PLGC model and significantly increased by DOP treatment (9.6 g/kg). Conclusions. These findings not only showed DOP inhibits PLGC development by upregulating the PER3 and AQP4 gene and protein expression but also suggested that its mechanism of action involved modulating the Circadian Rhythm Signaling pathway.

Abstract: Dental caries is a transmissible bacterial disease process, with cavities at the end, and caused by acids from bacterial metabolism. The essence of dental treatment is to clean and disinfect bacterial contamination from the tooth. In this work, we tried to demonstrate the cleaning and disinfecting effects of Nd:YAG laser irradiation on dental carious lesion and root canal in vitro. Acousto-optic Q-switched quasicontinuous and Cr 3+ :YAG crystal Q-switched pulse Nd:YAG lasers were employed to treat caries lesion and the root canal, respectively. Results showed that acousto-optic Q-switched quasicontinuous Nd:YAG laser irradiation and Cr 3+ :YAG crystal Q-switched pulse Nd:YAG laser irradiation could rapidly clean decayed material and bacterial contamination from dental carious lesion and the narrow tail end of root canal with minimally invasive in vitro, respectively. It was concluded that acousto-optic Q-switched quasicontinuous laser irradiation may be a rapid and effective alternative caries treatment, and Cr 3+ :YAG crystal Q-switched pulse Nd:YAG laser irradiation may be an effective method for canal cleaning and disinfecting during root canal therapy.

Abstract: Background. Esophageal cancer (ESCA) is a common gastrointestinal tumor, and China is one of the regions with a high incidence. Tumor immune-related cells play important roles in the tumorigenesis and development of ESCA. However, the role of tumor immune-related genes in the development of ESCA has not been established. Methods. In this study, weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA) was used to analyze ESCA gene expression using data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Gene expression was associated with clinical traits, and modules related to CD8+T cells, dendritic cells, and regulatory T cells (Tregs) were obtained. Results. The GO analysis showed that inflammatory chemotaxis networks were activated by cell chemotaxis, chemokine activity, and chemokine binding receptor. Three hub genes (IL17C, TNFSF15, and MIA) related to tumor immunity and metastasis were identified by WGCNA, and the abnormal expression of each hub gene in ESCA has a poor prognosis, especially in patients with high expression ( P 〈 0.05 ). The risk assessment analysis also showed that tumor stage was positively correlated with tumor risk in ESCA ( P 〈 0.05 ). Therefore, more than 50 pairs of tumor tissues from the T1–T3 stages with different degrees of differentiation and paracancerous tissues were selected to confirm the expression of the three genes using RT-qPCR and immunofluorescence (IF). The infiltration of CD8+ T cells in tumor tissues was lower than that in normal tissues. According to the RT-qPCR, the expressions of IL17 C, TNFSF15, and MIA in moderately and poorly differentiated tissues were significantly higher than those in normal tissues ( P 〈 0.05 ). In contrast, their expressions were decreased in high differentiated tissues ( P 〈 0.05 ). Furthermore, IL17C, TNFSF15, and MIA were all positively correlated with immune checkpoint PD-1; TNFSF15 and MIA were also positively correlated with CTLA4, TIGIT, and CD96. Conclusion. In summary, IL17C, TNFSF15, and MIA may act as biomarkers for prognosis in moderately and poorly differentiated ESCAs, and they may be used as predictive genes of immunotherapy associated with CD8+ T cell and Tregs invasion in ESCAs.
