Abstract: Ginsenoside Rh1 is able to upregulate glucocorticoid receptor (GR) level, suggesting Rh1 may improve glucocorticoid efficacy in hormone-dependent diseases. Therefore, we investigated whether Rh1 could enhance the effect of dexamethasone (Dex) in the treatment of MRL/lpr mice. MRL/lpr mice were treated with vehicle, Dex, Rh1, or Dex + Rh1 for 4 weeks. Dex significantly reduced the proteinuria and anti-dsDNA and anti-ANA autoantibodies. The levels of proteinuria and anti-dsDNA and anti-ANA autoantibodies were further decreased in Dex + Rh1 group. Dex, Rh1, or Dex + Rh1 did not alter the proportion of CD4+ splenic lymphocytes, whereas the proportion of CD8+ splenic lymphocytes was significantly increased in Dex and Dex + Rh1 groups. Dex + Rh1 significantly decreased the ratio of CD4+/CD8+ splenic lymphocytes compared with control. Con A-induced CD4+ splenic lymphocytes proliferation was increased in Dex-treated mice and was inhibited in Dex + Rh1-treated mice. Th1 cytokine IFN- γ mRNA was suppressed and Th2 cytokine IL-4 mRNA was increased by Dex. The effect of Dex on IFN- γ and IL-4 mRNA was enhanced by Rh1. In conclusion, our data suggest that Rh1 may enhance the effect of Dex in the treatment of MRL/lpr mice through regulating CD4+ T cells activation and Th1/Th2 balance.

Abstract: Objective. By conducting a systematic review of the efficacy of acupoint application on children with asthma. Methods. We searched Chinese databases (CNKI, VIP, and Wanfang) and English databases (PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library) for studies from the establishment of the database to October 2021. The included literature studies were randomized control studies investigating the treatment of asthma in children by acupoint application. The primary outcomes included the cure rate, the resolution time of cough, and the resolution time of wheezing. The secondary outcomes included pulmonary function and interleukins. Stata 15 and RevMan 5.4 were used to analyze the extracted data. Results. A total of 24 related studies were included containing 2716 cases. The meta-analysis showed that TCM group was superior to control group in terms of cure rate, pulmonary function (FEV1), and resolution time of wheezing in children with asthma [RR = 1.26,95% (1.21,1.31), P 〈 0.05 ; SMD = 0.81, 95%CI (0.05,1.56), P 〈 0.05 ; WMD = −1.40, 95%CI (−1.75, −1.05), P 〈 0.05 ]. Conclusions. The present study shows that acupoint application is an effective treatment for children with asthma in China, especially in alleviating wheezing and improving quality of life.

Abstract: Purpose . This study aimed to investigate the possible effects and underlying mechanisms of Kangzhi syrup on ovalbumin- (OVA-) induced cough variant asthma (CVA) in guinea pigs. Methods . All 48 guinea pigs were randomly assigned to four experimental groups: normal, OVA model with or without Kangzhi syrup (OVA and OVA + KZ), and OVA with Dexamethasone (OVA + DM). After sensitizing the guinea pigs, a cough challenge was performed by the inhalation of capsaicin. The antitussive effect, inflammatory cells, cytokines in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and lung tissue, and morphological changes were examined. Results . Compared with model group, Kangzhi syrup effectively exerted an antitussive effect ( p 〈 0.0 001 ) and reduced the pneumonic anaphylacticitis by inhibiting the infiltration of total inflammatory cells ( p 〈 0.0 001 ) and reducing the percentage of eosinophil in BALF ( p 〈 0.0 001 ). Moreover, evidence from morphological studies also demonstrated that Kangzhi syrup inhibited the infiltration of inflammatory cells and ameliorated the structure changes. NF- κ B and TGF- β 1 expression were attenuated in the OVA + KZ group versus the OVA group ( p 〈 0.0 001 ). Additionally, a semiquantitative analysis of TGF- β 1 expression also demonstrated that the Kangzhi syrup attenuated this profibrogenic growth factor ( p 〈 0.0 01 ). Conclusions . The results demonstrated that Kangzhi syrup exerted a considerable antitussive effect in CVA animal model, which depended on its marked impact on the anti-anaphylactic inflammation. Additionally, it could ameliorate the airway remodeling by inhibiting NF- κ B and TGF- β 1 signal pathway.

Abstract: Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is a significant pathogen causing substantial financial losses in the global swine industry. The prevention of PRRSV is hampered due to frequent gene recombination among different strains of PRRSV. In this study, a new PRRSV strain, PRRSV-HQ-2020, was identified from nursery piglets in Yunnan Province, China, in 2020. The complete genome analysis revealed that PRRSV-HQ-2020 is highly similar to JXA1-like (lineage 8.7 PRRSV, isolated from China in 2008) in the 5′UTR, nsp1–9, and nsp11 coding regions. Additionally, it has a resemblance to JM (lineage 3 PRRSV, isolated from Taiwan, China, in 2010) in the nsp12-M coding region and NADC30 (lineage 1.8 PRRSV, isolated from North American in 2008) in the nsp10, N, and 3′UTR, suggesting a natural recombination event. Furthermore, recombination analyses showed three interlineage recombination events among lineages 8.7, 1.8, and 3. Notably, the GP5 protein of PRRSV-HQ-2020 exhibited a crucial mutation at position 44, leading to the deletion of a key glycosylation site. These findings provide direct evidence for the natural occurrence of recombination events among three lineages of PRRSV-2 in Chinese swine herds, leading to the emergence of unique genetic properties of PRRSV variants, and providing a theoretical basis for developing better PRRSV prevention strategies.

Abstract: Soybean meal was adulterated with melamine with the purpose of boosting the protein content for unlawful interests. In recent years, the near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy technique has been widely used for guaranteeing food and feed security for its fast, nondestructive, and pollution-free characteristics. However, there are problems with using near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy for detecting samples with low contaminant concentration because of instrument noise and sampling issues. In addition, methods based on NIR are indirect and depend on calibration models. NIR microscopy imaging offers the opportunity to investigate the chemical species present in food and feed at the microscale level (the minimum spot size is a few micrometers), thus avoiding the problem of the spectral features of contaminants being diluted by scanning. The aim of this work was to investigate the feasibility of using NIR microscopy imaging to identify melamine particles in soybean meal using only the pure component spectrum. The results presented indicate that using the classical least squares (CLS) algorithm with the nonnegative least squares (NNLS) algorithm, without needing first to develop a calibration model, could identify soybean meal that is both uncontaminated and contaminated with melamine particles at as low a level as 50 mg kg −1 .

Abstract: Background. Currently, predictive models were not developed based on the signaling pathway signatures of immune-related lncRNAs in breast cancer (BRCA) patients. Methods. We selected unsupervised hierarchical clustering algorithm to classify patients with BRCA based on the significant immune-derived lncRNAs from the TCGA dataset. And different methods including ESTIMATE, ImmuneCellAI, and CIBERSORT were performed to evaluate the immune infiltration of tumor microenvironment. Using Lasso regression algorithm, we filtered the significant signaling pathways enriched by GSEA, GSVA, or PPI analysis to develop a prognostic model. And a nomogram integrated with clinical factors and significant pathways was constructed to predict the precise probability of overall survival (OS) of BRCA patients in the TCGA dataset (n = 1,098) and another two testing sets (n = 415). Results. BRCA patients were stratified into the PC (n = 571) and GC (n = 527) subgroup with significantly different prognosis with 550 immune-related lncRNAs in the TCGA dataset. Integrated analysis revealed different immune response, oncogenic signaling, and metabolic reprograming pathways between these two subgroups. And a 5-pathway signature could predict the prognosis of BRCA patients between these two subgroups independently in the TCGA dataset, which was confirmed in another two cohorts from the GEO dataset. In the TCGA dataset, 5-year OS rate was 78% (95% CI: 73–84) vs. 82% (95% CI: 77–87) for the PC and GC group (HR = 1.63 (95% CI: 1.17–2.28), p = 0.004 ). The predictive power was similar in another two testing sets (HR  〉  1.20, p   〈   0.01 ). Finally, a nomogram is developed for clinical application, which integrated this signature and age to accurately predict the survival probability in BRCA patients. Conclusion. This 5-pathway signature correlated with immune-derived lncRNAs was able to precisely predict the prognosis for patients with BRCA and provided a rich source characterizing immune-related lncRNAs and further informed strategies to target BRCA vulnerabilities.

Abstract: GWAS have identified variation in the FGFR2 locus as risk factors for breast cancer. Validation studies, however, have shown inconsistent results by ethnics and pathological characteristics. To further explore this inconsistency and investigate the associations of FGFR2 variants with breast cancer according to intrinsic subtype (Luminal-A, Luminal-B, ER− & PR− & HER2+, and triple negative) among Southern Han Chinese women, we genotyped rs1078806, rs1219648, rs2420946, rs2981579, and rs2981582 polymorphisms in 609 patients and 882 controls. Significant associations with breast cancer risk were observed for rs2420946, rs2981579, and rs2981582 with OR (95% CI) per risk allele of 1.19 (1.03–1.39), 1.24 (1.07–1.43), and 1.17 (1.01–1.36), respectively. In subtype specific analysis, above three SNPs were significantly associated with increased Luminal-A risk in a dose-dependent manner P trend 〈 0.01 ; however, only rs2981579 was associated with Luminal-B, and none were linked to ER− & PR− subtypes (ER− & PR− & HER2+ and triple negative). Haplotype analyses also identified common haplotypes significantly associated with luminal-like subtypes (Luminal-A and Luminal-B), but not with ER− & PR− subtypes. Our results suggest that associations of FGFR2 SNPs with breast cancer were heterogeneous according to intrinsic subtype. Future studies stratifying patients by their intrinsic subtypes will provide new insights into the complex genetic mechanisms underlying breast cancer.

Abstract: This study was to evaluate the risk factors of infectious complications after percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) and build a prediction tool for postoperative complications based on the risk factors. A total of 110 male (67.1%) and 54 female (32.9%) patients who underwent PCNL for renal stones between 2010 and 2014 in our institute were included. A detailed clinical information and laboratory results were obtained from patients. Systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and postoperative fever were recorded after PCNL surgery. In all, 45 cases (27.4%) developed SIRS and fever was observed in 20 cases (12.2%). In multivariate analysis, stone size (odds ratio, OR = 1.471, p = 0.009 ) and urine white blood cell (WBC) (OR = 1.001, p = 0.007 ) were related to the development of SIRS. Stone size (OR = 1.644, p = 0.024 ), urine WBC (OR = 1.001, p = 0.002 ) and serum albumin (OR = 0.807, p = 0.021 ) were associated with postoperative fever. We concluded that patients with larger stone size and preoperative urinary tract infection might have a higher risk of developing SIRS and fever after operation, while a high-normal level of serum albumin might be the protective factor for postoperative fever.

Abstract: In order to effectively improve the sense of difference brought by the extracorporeal machine to users and minimize the related derived problems, the implementation based on embedded multisensor has become a major breakthrough in the research of cochlear implant. To explore the impact of different cultural differences on timbre perception, effectively evaluate the correlation between cultural differences and music perception teaching based on embedded multisensor normal hearing, evaluate the discrimination ability of embedded multisensor normal hearing to music timbre, and analyse the correlation between cultural differences and timbre perception, it provides a basis for the evaluation of music perception of normal hearing people with embedded multisensor and the design and development of evaluation tool. In this paper, adults with normal hearing in different cultures matched with music experience are selected to test their recognition ability of different musical instruments and the number of musical instruments by using music evaluation software, and the recognition accuracy of the two tests is recorded. The results show that the accuracy of musical instrument recognition in the mother tongue group is 15% higher than that in the foreign language group, and the average recognition rates of oboe, trumpet, and xylophone in the foreign language group are lower than those in the mother tongue group, the recognition rate of oboe and trumpet in wind instruments was low in both groups, and the recognition rate of oboe and trumpet in foreign language group was high.
