    Abstract: Essential oils (EOs) from the stem barks, leaf petioles, fruit petioles, fresh leaves, and fresh and dried fruits of Zanthoxylum rhetsa were extracted by hydrodistillation. The volatile compounds of the products were analyzed by gas chromatography (GC-FID) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MSD). Monoterpene hydrocarbons formed the predominant fraction of all six EO samples, of which sabinene is one of the major components (from 12.37% to 41.13%). For the leaf petiole EO, limonene (25.01%), sabinene (14.56%), and linalool (12.63%) are the major constituents, while the main constituents of fruit petiole EO were terpinolene (19.66%), terpinen-4-ol (19.07%), and sabinene (17.83%). The major components of stem bark EO are terpinen-4-ol (18.23%), sabinene (12.37%), α-phellandrene (7.34%), β-phellandrene (6.32%), and γ-terpinene (6.12%), while sabinene (38.35%), terpinen-4-ol (13.71%), γ-terpinene (6.47%), and limonene (6.02%) are the major constituents of fresh leaf EO. For the EOs of dried fruits and fresh fruits, sabinene, terpinolene, limonene, and terpinen-4-ol are the major constituents. The essential oils were also tested for their cytotoxic and antimicrobial activities. The results revealed that six EOs at concentrations of 50 μg/mL exhibited inhibitory activity against at least one tested cancer cell line but were nontoxic on Vero normal cells. Most EOs showed moderate antimicrobial activity against F. oxysporum; however, there were no obvious activity against B. subtilis and S. aureus.

    Abstract: Dietary inclusion of canthaxanthin, a common carotenoid pigment, has been long practiced in aquaculture to give the favorable flesh color in farmed salmonids. However, carotenoids are associated with limited solubility and poor physicochemical stability, and their dose in fish feed is widely regulated. In this study, we included canthaxanthin- and α-tocopherol-loaded liposomes into fish diets and evaluated the effects of supplemented fish feed on fish growth, color, nutrition, and canthaxanthin deposition in fillets of cultured rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The liposomes were fabricated using lecithin as phospholipids with the initial concentrations (IC = mcanthaxanthin/mlipids, % wt/wt) of canthaxanthin at 0.1%, 0.5%, and 1.0%. Particle size characterization showed that liposome mean sizes were 109.70 ± 6.36, 105.10 ± 8.41, and 109.20 ± 5.66 nm (mean ± SD; n = 3), respectively, corresponding with liposomes synthesized at canthaxanthin IC = 0.1%, IC = 0.5%, and IC = 1%. The polydispersity index (PDI) of all samples remained lower than 0.2. There were no significant differences in the mean size and PDI between blank lecithin liposome and canthaxanthin- and α-tocopherol-loaded liposomes. The encapsulation efficiency of canthaxanthin- and α-tocopherol-loaded liposomes decreased when increasing the concentration of canthaxanthin in lecithin liposomes, with EE% values of IC = 0.1%, IC = 0.5%, and IC = 1% being 85.3 ± 2.1, 72.9 ± 1.8, and 55.3 ± 2.6, respectively. For fish growth, at the end of the experiment, final weight was significantly higher in fish fed with diet supplemented with 1 g/kg canthaxanthin- and α-tocopherol-loaded liposomes (IC = 0.5%) in comparison to other experimental control groups. The difference in color of the salmon muscle was most apparent after two months of feeding. However, after three months, there was no noticeable change in the color score of the fish muscle, indicating saturation of color of the fish muscle. The above results suggest the potential of canthaxanthin- and a-tocopherol-loaded liposomes as the red pigment in fish aquaculture.

    Abstract: Lobophora sp., belonging to brown macro algae phylum, is found in coral reefs. In this study, the fatty acid composition, lipid classes, polar lipid molecular forms, and bioactivities of this algae have been determined. It follows that five classes including polar lipid (Pol), sterol (ST), free fatty acids (FFA), triacylglycerol (TAG), and hydrocarbon and wax (HW), 23 fatty acids containing 5 PUFAs (ALA, GLA, AA, EPA, and DHA) and 157 molecular types of polar lipid group containing 48 phospholipid molecular forms belonging to 4 subclasses (PI (11), PC (14), PG (22), PA (1)), 45 glycolipid molecular forms classified into 3 subclasses of MGDG (8), DGDG (1), SQDG (36), and 64 betaine lipid molecular forms belonging to 2 subclasses (DGTA (37), DGTS (27)) have been identified for the first time from this algae. Furthermore, both polar lipid (PL) and unpolar lipid (UPL) show the NO inhibition activities with values of IC50 ranging from 52.10 to 66.21 µg/mL. Thus, lipid of this brown algae could promise to be a potential source for application in food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutic industry.

    Abstract: This paper introduces a methodology for controlling parallel robots in case they are used as a kind of specialized fixture to expand the technological capabilities of machines. The parallel robot is mounted on the workbench to extend the number of degrees of freedom. However, there are always measurable kinematic errors of the workbench which will be eliminated by the robot’s motion. The actual working motion of the robot is then still performed by its active joints. Therefore, the displacement of each movable joint is now decided by two sources, one is due to the error compensation motion of the workbench, the other is the required work movement. According to the superposition principle, these two motions are combined into a single displacement characteristic curve to control the robot. The base exchange technique to determine the error compensation motion of the workbench, the technique of solving the inverse kinematics problem by the generalized reduced gradient (GRG) method, and the principle of joint motion combination are then introduced in detail in the paper. Finally, an example with the hexapod is presented. The obtained results, which use the robot itself to generate error-compensated movements of the workbench by means of the base exchange technique, will open up the possibility of intervening in hybrid machine systems to ensure the desired forming accuracy without no hardware intervention required.

    Abstract: The mud crab increases the yield of farming in Southeast Asian countries. Scylla paramamosain , one of four mud crab species belonging to the Scylla genus, is a rich nutrient source during its soft-shell moulting period. In this study, we analysed the total lipid content, fatty acid components, and phospholipid molecular species of the S . paramamosain mud crab. The total lipid content was 1.62 ± 0.08%, which is similar to that of S . serrata previously reported . Twenty-one fatty acids were identified in S . paramamosain . The composition and molecular forms of the phospholipids were identified using high-performance liquid chromatography-high-resolution mass spectrometry. Fifty-four different molecules belonging to six types of phospholipids were identified. Notably, phospholipids were made of fatty acids with C16 : 0; C18 : 0; C20 : 4; C20 : 5; and C22 : 6 main components. The anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic effects of crab lipids and phospholipids were investigated for the first time. The anti-inflammatory activity of the total and polar lipids had IC 50 values of 71.5 and 68.6  μ g/mL, respectively. The crab polar lipid fraction, which contained phospholipids, also presented high cytotoxic activity toward five cancer cell lines with IC 50 values ranging from 85.4 to 95.8  μ g/mL.

    Abstract: It is easy to realize that most robots do not move to the desired endpoint (Tool Center Point (TCP)) using high-resolution noncontact instrumentation because of manufacturing and assembly errors, transmission system errors, and mechanical wear. This paper presents a robot calibration solution by changing the endpoint trajectories while maintaining the robot’s control system and device usages. Two independent systems to measure the endpoint positions, the robot encoder and a noncontact measuring system with a high-resolution camera, are used to determine the endpoint errors. A new trajectory based on the measured errors will be built to replace the original trajectory. The results show that the proposed method can significantly reduce errors; moreover, this is a low-cost solution and easy to apply in practice and calibration can be done cyclically. The only requirement for this method is a noncontact measuring device with high-resolution and located independently with the robot in calibration.

    Abstract: The interzeolite conversion of faujasite (FAU-type) zeolites to chabazite (CHA-type) zeolite in the presence of N,N,N-trimethyladamantammonium and N,N,N-dimethylethylcyclohexylammonium cations was investigated over a large compositional range by carefully controlling the reaction mixture compositions. Highly crystalline CHA zeolites were also obtained by the transformation of several zeolite types including EMT, LTL, LEV, RTH, and MFI frameworks. The formation of CHA zeolite from FAU zeolite precursors was substantially faster than that from zeolite L with a similar composition. High-silica CHA zeolites were also produced successfully using a mixture of TMAda with a number of less expensive organic structure-directing agents. The CHA zeolite materials have been synthesized with high crystallinity and with a Si/Al ratio ranging from 5 to 140. Our data support the importance of structural similarity between the zeolite precursors, nucleation/crystallization processes, and the zeolite product in the interzeolite conversion compared to conventional amorphous aluminosilicate gels. Our synthetic methods could be used to prepare other 8-membered ring zeolites such as AEI and AFX frameworks, potential candidates for selective catalytic reduction of NOx, light olefin production, and CO2 abatement.
