    Abstract: A kind of combined material (named lecithin-nano Ni/Fe) that is composed of lecithin and nanoscale Ni/Fe bimetal was synthesized via microemulsion method. The efficacy of such an original material was tested using 3,3′,4,4′-tetrachlorobiphenyl (PCB77) as target pollutant. A microemulsion system was optimized as template to prepare Ni/Fe nanoparticles, which was followed by an insite loading process with the deposition of lecithin carrier. It was proved by the characterization that subtle Ni/Fe nanoparticles can be uniformly dispersed and closely combined with lecithin carrier. Lecithin was an environmentally compatible biosurfactant that acted as both the component of the microemulsion and the functional material to accumulate organic contaminants. It was expected that the combined material can integrate the functions of lecithin and bimetal. The effectiveness was exhibited through the more rapid and sufficient removal of PCB77 by lecithin-nano Ni/Fe than that by blank carrier. Although requiring further improvement, the constitution of lecithin-nano Ni/Fe was a beneficial attempt to acquire the synergistic effect for intensified removal of environmental contaminants. It was promising that the original system and convenient method described in this work will facilitate the development of the organic-inorganic combined materials.

    Abstract: Objective. This study aims to compare the electrocardiogram (ECG) abnormalities and QT interval prolongation in 2,886 patients with viral hepatitis cirrhosis and 643 patients with alcoholic cirrhosis in order to understand the characteristics of ECG in patients with cirrhosis and provide information and evidence for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods. The ECG data of patients with viral hepatitis cirrhosis and alcoholic liver cirrhosis in the outpatients and inpatients of our hospital from August 2012 to July 2018 were reviewed. The ECG data were recorded, and the ECG report was issued by ECG experts to analyze the abnormal ECG and QT interval of patients in these two groups. Results. In the present study, 1,132 (39.22%) of the 2,886 patients with viral liver cirrhosis and 322 (50.08%) of the 643 patients with alcoholic liver cirrhosis had an abnormal ECG (P  〈  0.001). Among patients with QT prolongation, 388 patients had viral liver cirrhosis (13.44%) and 170 patients had alcoholic liver cirrhosis (26.44%, P  〈  0.001). Conclusion. The hemodynamics and electrophysiology of the myocardium are often changed in patients with cirrhosis, and ECG changes may also occur. QT interval prolongation is one of the most common electrophysiological abnormalities in patients with cirrhosis, and QT prolongation is more common in patients with alcoholic liver cirrhosis. Prolonged QT is associated with severe arrhythmia and sudden death and can warn of malignant arrhythmia and sudden death. Therefore, the routine detection of abnormal ECG and QT interval in patients with liver cirrhosis is of significant importance for preventing malignant events.

    Abstract: Obtaining an optimum data representation is a challenging issue that arises in many intellectual data processing techniques such as data mining, pattern recognition, and gene clustering. Many existing methods formulate this problem as a nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) approximation problem. The standard NMF uses the least square loss function, which is not robust to outlier points and noises and fails to utilize prior label information to enhance the discriminability of representations. In this study, we develop a novel matrix factorization method called robust semisupervised nonnegative local coordinate factorization by integrating robust NMF, a robust local coordinate constraint, and local spline regression into a unified framework. We use the l 2 , 1 norm for the loss function of the NMF and a local coordinate constraint term to make our method insensitive to outlier points and noises. In addition, we exploit the local and global consistencies of sample labels to guarantee that data representation is compact and discriminative. An efficient multiplicative updating algorithm is deduced to solve the novel loss function, followed by a strict proof of the convergence. Several experiments conducted in this study on face and gene datasets clearly indicate that the proposed method is more effective and robust compared to the state-of-the-art methods.

    Abstract: To speed up the comprehensive utilization and treatment of copper tailings, the digital image processing technology is proposed in this study to detect the low-silicon copper tailings (LSCT) using a scanning electron microscope (SEM), and the particle size distribution (PSD) and the activity of LSCT are analysed under the action of mechanical force. Firstly, the current status and application of copper tailings are introduced, and the influence of the particle size of LSCT on its practical application performance is explained. Secondly, the LSCT SEM image target recognition model is designed based on the convolutional neural network (CNN), and the model parameters and the reference CNN are selected. Finally, the experimental process is designed, a SEM image data set of LSCT is prepared, the model is trained through the training set, and the image recognition test is performed on the produced data set. The experimental results show that when the number of iterations of the CNN is 10, the accuracy of model recognition can be guaranteed. After the action of mechanical force, the PSD of LSCT is mainly concentrated at 1 μm~100 μm; that around 1.4 μm~10 μm is the largest, and the PSD of LSCT around 1.4 μm increases with the increase of action time of mechanical force, but the PSD of the LSCT begins to increase when the grinding time exceeds 150 minutes, and the activity of LSCT reaches the maximum (75.545%) at 150 minutes. The average accuracy of SEM image detection of the model is 86.97%, and the model based on DenseNet shows better recognition accuracy than other models. This study provides a reference for analysing the PSD of LSCT.

    Abstract: The purpose of this study was to construct a multidisciplinary collaborative nursing model for pulmonary embolism risk prediction, early warning, and precontrol based on the Smith model and evaluate the application effect and hospitalization satisfaction. 2,037 patients hospitalized in the thoracic surgery department from June 1, 2019, to May 31, 2021, were selected as the research subjects. The control group received routine pulmonary embolism prevention management, while the experimental group received safe, case-based, and programmatic multidisciplinary intervention management based on the Smith policy management model. The data were analyzed statistically. The experimental group’s extubation and hospitalization time, D-dimer value, incidence of deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism on the seventh day after surgery were lower than those in the control group, and the satisfaction of hospitalization in the experimental group was higher than that in the control group. The implementation of the multidisciplinary collaborative nursing model of pulmonary embolism risk prediction, early warning, and precontrol based on the Smith model can promote the preventive effect of pulmonary embolism risk of surgical patients in our department and effectively improve the satisfaction of hospitalization, which is worthy for further promotion.

    Abstract: Objectives . Fatty liver disease (FLD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Dietary cholesterol and alcohol consumption are important risk factors for the progression of FLD, but whether and how alcohol induces more severe FLD with cholesterol ingestion remain unclear. Herein, we mainly used the Lieber-DeCarli diet to establish the FLD mouse model to investigate the synergistic effects of alcohol and cholesterol metabolism on liver damage. The indices of aspartate transaminase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), and total cholesterol (TC) levels, inflammation foci, and pathogenesis by hematoxylin and eosin (H & E) and Oil Red O staining revealed that alcohol induces more severe liver damage by influencing cholesterol metabolism, which might be primarily related to the influence of cholesterol absorption, synthesis, and excretion on the liver or small intestine. Moreover, inhibition of absorption of intestinal cholesterol, but not of fat, sucrose, and alcohol, absorption into the body’s metabolism by Ezetimibe, significantly improved FLD in rats fed with the high fat-cholesterol-sucrose and alcohol diet. These results showed that alcohol plays an important role in cholesterol metabolism in FLD.

    Abstract: Objective. To explore the effect of different-volume fluid resuscitation (FR) on organ functions in severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) and to elucidate the therapeutic effect and mechanism of Poria cocos on organ injuries caused by high-volume FR. Methods. 1. Clinical study: retrospective analysis of thirty-one patients about the effect of titrated fluid resuscitation protocol (TFR) on the occurrence of acute kidney injury (AKI) secondary to SAP. 2. Experimental study: rats (N = 30) were randomly divided into five groups: sham, model, low-volume FR (1.5 ml/kg/h), high-volume FR (10 ml/kg/h), and Poria cocos combined with high-volume FR (10 ml/kg/h + intraintestinal administration Poria cocos 5 g/kg); serum or plasma indicators and histopathologic scores were compared to explore the effect and mechanism of different fluid volumes and Poria cocos on organ function in SAP. Results. The occurrence of AKI, fluid volume, and fluid velocity in TFR group was lower than that in the control group. Logistic regression analysis showed that increased Marshall scores and fluid velocity were risk factors for predicting occurrence of AKI in SAP. Low-volume FR decreased the levels of blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum creatinine (Cr), matrix metalloproteinase (MMP), and pathologic scores of the pancreas and kidney. High-volume FR increased ascites, MMPs, and kidney pathologic scores. Poria cocos decreased the levels of BUN, Cr, MMPs, and pathologic scores of the pancreas and kidney and increased the arterial oxygen saturation. Conclusion. TFR-associated lower fluid volume and velocity reduced the occurrence of AKI secondary to SAP. High volume might aggravate AKI via increased MMP release leading to endothelial glycocalyx damage and vascular endothelial dysfunction. Poria cocos reduced MMP release, relieved glycocalyx damage, and alleviated the pancreas and kidney injury aggravated by high fluid volume in SAP. Therefore, endothelial glycocalyx protection might be a new strategy in the treatment of SAP.

    Abstract: Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in TNFSF4 and ANKRD55 genes have been shown to be associated with several autoimmune diseases, although whether these genes are susceptibility genes for dermatomyositis/polymyositis (DM/PM) has, to date, not been reported. This study aimed to investigate the potential associations of these SNPs with DM/PM in a Chinese Han population. Five SNPs in TNFSF4 (rs2205960, rs844644, and rs844648) and ANKRD55 (rs6859219, rs7731626) genes were genotyped using the SequenomMassArray system in 2297 Chinese individuals. In total, 1017 DM/PM patients and 1280 gender-matched healthy controls were genotyped. No significant associations were observed in DM/PM patients for the five SNPs analyzed. The association between SNPs and interstitial lung disease (ILD) was also investigated. Both DM-ILD ( P c = 0.030 , OR = 0.65, 95% CI: 0.47–0.88) and DM/PM-ILD ( P c = 0.015, OR = 0.67, 95% CI: 0.51–0.87) exhibited a significant association with the rs7731626-A allele. Rs7731626-A was less frequently found in DM-ILD and DM/PM-ILD patients compared with healthy controls. This is the first study to demonstrate a positive association between ANKRD55 polymorphism and DM-ILD and DM/PM-ILD. A decreased frequency of rs7731626-A in DM-ILD and DM/PM-ILD patients suggests that the A variant may be protective against DM/PM-ILD.

    Abstract: MicroRNAs (MiRNAs), which regulate the gene expression leading to translational inhibition or mRNA degradation, are involved in carcinogenesis and tumor progression. Previous studies have demonstrated that miR-221 was one of the most consistent overexpressed miRNAs in several types of cancer. However, the role of miR-221 in human liver cancer progression is not yet fully elucidated. Levels of miR-221 and plant homeodomain finger 2 (PHF2) expressions in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues and cell lines were detected using western blotting and quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). Cell migration was studied using the transwell assays. A dual-luciferase reporter system was used to validate the target gene of miR-221. The results indicated that miR-221 promoted HCC cell migration. By performing subsequent systematic bioinformatic analyses, we found PHF2 was the target gene of miR-221 and the direct binding relationship was further validated by dual-luciferase reporter assay. In addition, lower expression of PHF2 promoted HCC cell migration and linked to worse overall survival in HCC patients. Finally, the negative correlation between miR-221 and PHF2 expression levels in HCC specimens was further confirmed. Taken together, our findings implied that miR-221 could be a potential candidate for the therapeutics of HCC metastasis.

    Abstract: Objective. To investigate the etiology, clinical as well as neuroimaging characteristics, and outcomes after proper treatment in a series of 18 patients with osmotic demyelination syndrome. Methods. Medical records, including video records, of 18 patients with osmotic demyelination syndrome were retrospectively examined. Demographic and clinical information, imaging results, plans of management, and outcomes during the follow-up period were collected and analyzed. Results. Eighteen patients, including 10 males and 8 females, were included in the present study. The mean age at diagnosis of CNS insult was 47.4 ± 13.3 years (ranged from 30 to 78 years). Etiologies included rapidly corrected hyponatremia (50%), alcoholism (27.8%), and others. Neurological manifestations included encephalopathy (61.1%), dysphonia (50%), extrapyramidal symptoms (38.9%), and seizures (22.2%). Neuroimaging results showed that 6 patients (33.3%) had central pontine myelinolysis, 5 (27.8%) had extrapontine myelinolysis, and 7 (38.9%) had both. After treatment, 12 patients showed improvement and the other 6 did not. Among these patients, those who showed symptoms of encephalopathy had a favorable outcome. The majority of those who presented with mental retardation, seizures, and no other symptoms recovered better than their counterparts who had other symptoms. Nine out of 11 patients with pseudobulbar paralysis and/or extrapyramidal symptoms showed improvement, but the other 2 did not show improvement. Five patients who did not improve after treatment during admission were followed up for 1-3 months with rehabilitation training recommended, and it was found that 3 showed significant improvement after training, and the other 2 did not respond to this training. Conclusions. Osmotic demyelination syndrome is a complex disease entity due to a variety of etiologies, manifesting with symptoms involving diverse systems of the brain. Early identification and removal/correction of conditions leading to osmotic demyelination syndrome are the key to prevent and/or manage this disease.
