    Abstract: Background. Tuberculosis (TB), a multisystemic disease with protean presentation, remains a major global health problem. Although concurrent pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) cases are commonly observed clinically, knowledge regarding concurrent PTB-EPTB is limited. Here, a large-scale multicenter observational study conducted in China aimed to study the epidemiology of concurrent PTB-EPTB cases by diagnostically defining TB types and then implementing association rules analysis. Methods. The retrospective study was conducted at 21 hospitals in 15 provinces in China and included all inpatients with confirmed TB diagnoses admitted from Jan 2011 to Dec 2017. Association rules analysis was conducted for cases with concurrent PTB and various types of EPTB using the Apriori algorithm. Results. Evaluation of 438,979TB inpatients indicated PTB was the most commonly diagnosed (82.05%) followed by tuberculous pleurisy (23.62%). Concurrent PTB-EPTB was found in 129,422 cases (29.48%) of which tuberculous pleurisy was the most common concurrent EPTB type observed. The multivariable logistic regression models demonstrated that odds ratios of concurrent PTB-EPTB cases varied by gender and age group. For PTB cases with concurrent EPTB, the strongest association was found between PTB and concurrent bronchial tuberculosis (lift = 1.09). For EPTB cases with concurrent PTB, the strongest association was found between pharyngeal/laryngeal tuberculosis and concurrent PTB (lift = 1.11). Confidence and lift values of concurrent PTB-EPTB cases varied with gender and age. Conclusions. Numerous concurrent PTB-EPTB case types were observed, with confidence and lift values varying with gender and age. Clinicians should screen for concurrent PTB-EPTB in order to improve treatment outcomes.

    Abstract: With the rapid development of society, the incidence of metabolic syndrome (MS) is increasing rapidly. Evidence indicated that patients diagnosed with MS usually suffered from cardiomyopathy, called metabolic syndrome–associated cardiomyopathy (MSC). The clinical characteristics of MSC included cardiac hypertrophy and diastolic dysfunction, followed by heart failure. Despite many studies on this topic, the detailed mechanisms are not clear yet. As the center of cellular metabolism, mitochondria are crucial for maintaining heart function, while mitochondria dysfunction plays a vital role through mechanisms such as mitochondrial energy deprivation, calcium disorder, and ROS (reactive oxygen species) imbalance during the development of MSC. Accordingly, in this review, we will summarize the characteristics of MSC and especially focus on the mechanisms related to mitochondria. In addition, we will update new therapeutic strategies in this field.

    Abstract: In this work, the consensus problem of fractional-order multiagent systems with the general linear model of fixed topology is studied. Both distributed P D α -type and D α -type fractional-order iterative learning control (FOILC) algorithms are proposed. Here, a virtual leader is introduced to generate the desired trajectory, fixed communication topology is considered, and only a subset of followers can access the desired trajectory. The convergence conditions are proved using graph theory, fractional calculus, and λ norm theory. The theoretical analysis shows that the output of each agent completely tracks the expected trajectory in a limited time as the iteration number increases for both P D α -type and D α -type FOILC algorithms. Extensive numerical simulations are given to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness.

    Abstract: Objective . To observe the curative effect of VAWI on Xinjiang Uygur patients with silicosis fibrosis. Methods . After we diagnosed the 40 patients with the first phase of silicosis, we randomly divided them into two groups: the basic treatment group (group A, n = 20 ) and the VAWI group (group B, n = 20 ). At the same time, we selected the age-matched healthy patients ( n = 20 ). We applied the combined protein chip with SELDI-TOF-MS to carry out the serum analysis. The data were analyzed throughout data preprocessing, difference in PEAK screening, hierarchical cluster analysis, and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). We built decision tree model and predict the difference between the PEAK corresponding proteins. Results . The proteins peaks corresponding to name, predicted protein, and gene name were as follows: M2001_69, amyloid beta a4 protein, APP, and M2017_02, amyloid beta a4 protein, APP. The different expression of proteins in patients with silicosis was found before and after with VAWI treatment. The predicted proteins were as follows: M1982_50, amyloid beta a4 protein, APP; M3164_50, fibrinogen alpha chain frag, FGA; M3379_28, fibrinogen alpha chain frag, FGA; and so on. Conclusion . VAWI presented curative effect on patients with silicosis fibrosis via the alternation of proteins expression in serum.

    Abstract: In order to study the thallus changes on microscopic morphology and mechanical properties of Candida albicans antagonized by Streptococcus sanguinis bacteriocin, the adhesion ability and Young’s modulus of thalli and hypha of Candida albicans were measured by the relative measurement method using atomic force microscope’s (AFM) tapping model. The results showed that the average adhesion ability and Young’s modulus of thalli were 7.35 ± 0.77  nN and 7.33 ± 1.29  Mpa, respectively; the average adhesion ability and Young’s modulus of hypha were 9.82 ± 0.39  nN and 4.04 ± 0.76  Mpa, respectively. After being antagonized by Streptococcus sanguinis bacteriocin, the adhesion ability was decreased along with the increasing of deformation in reaction region and Young’s modulus followed the same changes. It could be concluded that the adhesion ability of hypha was greater than thalli, Young’s modulus of hypha was less than thalli, and adhesion ability and Young’s modulus of Candida albicans were decreased significantly after being antagonized by Streptococcus sanguinis bacteriocin.

    Abstract: To identify novel susceptibility genes and gene sets for obesity, we conducted a genomewide expression association analysis of obesity via integrating genomewide association study (GWAS) and expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs) data. GWAS summary data of body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) was driven from a published study, totally involving 339,224 individuals. The eQTLs dataset (containing 927,753 eQTLs) was obtained from eQTLs meta-analysis of 5,311 subjects. Integrative analysis of GWAS and eQTLs data was conducted by SMR software. The SMR single gene analysis results were further subjected to gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) for identifying obesity associated gene sets. A total of 13,311 annotated gene sets were analyzed in this study. SMR single gene analysis identified 20 BMI associated genes ( TUFM, SPI1, APOB48R , etc.). Also 3 WHR associated genes were detected (CPEB4 , WARS2 , and L3MBTL3) . The significant association between Chr16p11 and BMI was observed by GSEA (FDR adjusted p value = 0.040). The TGCTGCT, MIR-15A, MIR-16, MIR-15B, MIR-195, MIR-424, and MIR-497 (FDR adjusted p value = 0.049) gene set appeared to be linked with WHR. Our results provide novel clues for the genetic mechanism studies of obesity. This study also illustrated the good performance of SMR for susceptibility gene mapping.

    Abstract: Aim . To identify novel candidate genes and gene sets for diabetes. Methods . We performed an integrative analysis of genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs) data for diabetes. Summary data was driven from a large-scale GWAS of diabetes, totally involving 58,070 individuals. eQTLs dataset included 923,021 cis-eQTL for 14,329 genes and 4,732 trans-eQTL for 2,612 genes. Integrative analysis of GWAS and eQTLs data was conducted by summary data-based Mendelian randomization (SMR). To identify the gene sets associated with diabetes, the SMR single gene analysis results were further subjected to gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA). A total of 13,311 annotated gene sets were analyzed in this study. Results . SMR analysis identified 6 genes significantly associated with fasting glucose, such as C11ORF10 ( p value = 6.04 × 10 −8 ), MRPL33 ( p value = 1.24 × 10 −7 ), and FADS1 ( p value = 2.39 × 10 −7 ). Gene set analysis identified HUANG_FOXA2_TARGETS_UP (false discovery rate = 0.047) associated with fasting glucose. Conclusion . Our study provides novel clues for clarifying the genetic mechanism of diabetes. This study also illustrated the good performance of SMR approach and extended it to gene set association analysis for complex diseases.

    Abstract: The study on influence laws of strata behaviors is the basic guarantee of safety mining for shallow coal seam beneath gully terrain. Taking 3302 mining face of Zhujiamao Coal Mine as the engineering background, the laws of strata behaviors for shallow coal seam mining beneath gully terrain are studied by field detection, theoretical analysis, and numerical simulation. The strata pressure observation and the hydraulic support working resistance show that the dynamic strata behaviors appear violently during mining beneath the gully bottom. The theoretical analysis shows that the rotation and breaking of key stratum beneath gully bottom under nonuniform load is the fundamental cause of strong dynamic strata behaviors. The numerical simulation of overburden movement and fissure development characteristics shows that the strata behaviors beneath the gully bottom are stronger than the strata behaviors beneath other areas. Additionally, according to the laws of dynamic strata behaviors, the safety measures for mining beneath gully bottom are put forward.

    Abstract: Agaricus blazei Murrill (ABM), an edible mushroom native to Brazil, is widely used for nonprescript and medicinal purposes. Alcohol liver disease (ALD) is considered as a leading cause for a liver injury in modern dietary life, which can be developed by a prolonged or large intake of alcohol. In this study, the medium composition of ABM was optimized using response surface methodology for maximum mycelial biomass and extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) production. The model predicts to gain a maximal mycelial biomass and extracellular polysaccharide at 1.047 g/100 mL, and 0.367 g/100 mL, respectively, when the potato is 29.88 g/100 mL, the glucose is 1.01 g/100 mL, and the bran is 1.02 g/100 mL. The verified experiments showed that the model was significantly consistent with the model prediction and that the trends of mycelial biomass and extracellular polysaccharide were predicted by artificial neural network. After that, the optimized medium was used for the submerged culture of ABM. Then, alcohol-induced liver injury in mice model was used to examine the protective effect of ABM cultured using the optimized medium on the liver. And the hepatic histopathological observations showed that ABM had a relatively significant role in mice model, which had alcoholic liver damage.
