    Abstract: Liver dysfunction has been known to occur frequently in cases of sepsis. Excessive inflammation and apoptosis are pathological features of acute liver failure. Recent studies suggest that activation of glycogen synthase kinase- (GSK-) 3 β is involved in inflammation and apoptosis. We aimed to investigate the protective effects of GSK-3 β inhibition on polymicrobial sepsis-induced liver injury and to explore the possible mechanisms. Polymicrobial sepsis was induced by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP), and SB216763 was used to inhibit GSK-3 β in C57BL/6 mice. GSK-3 β was activated following CLP. Administration of SB216763 decreased mortality, ameliorated liver injury, and reduced hepatic apoptosis. The inhibition of GSK-3 β also reduced leukocyte infiltration and hepatic inflammatory cytokine expression and release. Moreover, GSK-3 β inhibition suppressed the transcriptional activity of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF- κ B) but enhanced the transcriptional activity of cAMP response element binding protein (CREB) in the liver. In in vitro studies, GSK-3 β inhibition reduced inflammatory cytokine production via modulation of NF- κ B and CREB signaling pathways in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated macrophages. In conclusion, these findings suggest that GSK-3 β blockade protects against CLP-induced liver via inhibition of inflammation by modulating NF- κ B and CREB activity and suppression of hepatic apoptosis.

    Abstract: In this paper, we propose a time-delayed predator-prey model with Holling-type II functional response, which incorporates the gestation period and the cost of fear into prey reproduction. The dynamical behavior of this system is both analytically and numerically investigated from the viewpoint of stability, permanence, and bifurcation. We found that there are stability switches, and Hopf bifurcations occur when the delay τ passes through a sequence of critical values. The explicit formulae which determine the direction, stability, and other properties of the bifurcating periodic solutions are given by using the normal form theory and center manifold theorem. We perform extensive numerical simulations to explore the impact of some important parameters on the dynamics of the system. Numerical simulations show that high levels of fear have a stabilizing effect while relatively low levels of fear have a destabilizing effect on the predator-prey interactions which lead to limit-cycle oscillations. We also found that the model with or without a delay-dependent factor can have a significantly different dynamics. Thus, ignoring the delay or not including the delay-dependent factor might result in inaccurate modelling predictions.

    Abstract: In this study, the influences of marine red yeast Rhodosporidium paludigenum (MRYP) on diarrhea rate, serum antioxidant capacity, intestinal immunity capacity, and microflora structure of early-weaned lamb were investigated in a 60-day feeding trial. A total of 96 early-weaned lambs were utilized in this study. The lambs were divided into four experimental groups based on the percentage of marine red yeast Rhodosporidium paludigenum (MRYP) as milk replacer supplement. The rates of milk replacer supplement for the four groups were 0, 0.1%, 0.3%, and 0.5% of marine red yeast Rhodosporidium paludigenum (MRYP), respectively. The study was continued for 30 days. The results showed that (1) compared with control group, 0.5% marine red yeast Rhodosporidium paludigenum (MRYP) supplementation caused significantly decreases in average fecal score and diarrhea frequency by 33.74% and 40.23% ( P 〈 0.05 ). (2) No significant difference was found in all tested related antioxidant indexes in serum of four treatments ( P 〉 0.05 ). (3) The concentrations of SIgA, IgG, and IL-10 of group IV was significantly increased by 17.78%, 18.27%, and 8.17%, but the IL-6 and TNF-α were significantly decreased by 21.20% and 31.80%, compared to group I in the colon ( P 〈 0.05 ). (4) The number of Bifidobacterial and Lactobacilli of group IV was significantly increased by 14.87% and 15.09%, but Escherichia coli and Salmonella were significantly decreased by 20.19% and 10.15%, compared to group I in the colon ( P 〈 0.05 ). (5) A portion of marine red yeast Rhodosporidium paludigenum (MRYP) survived in the intestine of early-weaned lamb, and the number of survival marine red yeast Rhodosporidium paludigenum (MRYP) increased as the addition of marine red yeast Rhodosporidium paludigenum (MRYP) increased from 0.1 to 0.5% in milk replacer. Therefore, marine red yeast Rhodosporidium paludigenum (MRYP) has a potential to be a replacer of antibiotics for prevention and treatment of diarrhea in early-weaned lambs.

    Abstract: Craniofacial reconstruction is to estimate an individual’s face model from its skull. It has a widespread application in forensic medicine, archeology, medical cosmetic surgery, and so forth. However, little attention is paid to the evaluation of craniofacial reconstruction. This paper proposes an objective method to evaluate globally and locally the reconstructed craniofacial faces based on the geodesic network. Firstly, the geodesic networks of the reconstructed craniofacial face and the original face are built, respectively, by geodesics and isogeodesics, whose intersections are network vertices. Then, the absolute value of the correlation coefficient of the features of all corresponding geodesic network vertices between two models is taken as the holistic similarity, where the weighted average of the shape index values in a neighborhood is defined as the feature of each network vertex. Moreover, the geodesic network vertices of each model are divided into six subareas, that is, forehead, eyes, nose, mouth, cheeks, and chin, and the local similarity is measured for each subarea. Experiments using 100 pairs of reconstructed craniofacial faces and their corresponding original faces show that the evaluation by our method is roughly consistent with the subjective evaluation derived from thirty-five persons in five groups.

    Abstract: P2X7 purinergic receptor (P2X7R) has been implicated in several cardiovascular diseases. However, whether it regulates cardiac fibrosis remains elusive. Herein, its involvement in the development of cardiac fibrosis was examined using a transverse aortic constriction (TAC) mice model and cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) hyperstimulated by TGF- β 1 for 48 hours. Results showed that TAC and TGF- β 1 treatment increased the expression of P2X7R. Silencing of P2X7R expression with siP2X7R ameliorated TGF- β 1 effects on fibroblasts activation. Similarly, P2X7R inhibition by Brilliant Blue G (BBG) reduced mRNA and protein levels of profibrosis markers, while the P2X7R agonist BzATP accelerated the TGF- β 1-induced CFs activation. Moreover, it was found that TGF- β 1-induced CFs activation was mediated by the NLRP3/IL-1 β inflammasome pathway. BBG or siP2X7R treatment suppressed NLRP3/IL-1 β pathway signaling. In vivo , BBG significantly alleviated TAC-induced cardiac fibrosis, cardiac dysfunction, and NLRP3/IL-1 β activation. Collectively, our findings imply that suppressing P2X7R may limit cardiac fibrosis and abnormal activation of CFs.

    Abstract: Objective. Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is a key enzyme of homocysteine metabolism and is closely related to the occurrence of hypertension. The aim of this study was to investigate the polymorphism of the (MTHFR) C677T and the factors influencing the severity of hypertension. Material and Methods. A total of 985 subjects were enrolled to analyze the polymorphisms of the MTHFR C677T gene by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). 306 people with essential hypertension were selected from 985 subjects to estimate the severity of hypertension by the ordinal multivariate logistical regression model. Results. The frequencies of CC, CT, and TT genotypes were 19.5%, 49.95%, and 30.46%, respectively. The allelic frequency of mutant T was 55.43%. The plasma homocysteine level of the homozygous TT in individuals was significantly higher than in those with CC or CT P 〈 0.01 . MTHFR677CT genotype, MTHFR677TT genotype, smoking, family history of hypertension, Hcy, and triglycerides (TG) were independent risk factors for the severity of hypertension (OR = 2.29, 2.24, 2.04, 1.81, 1.04, 1.26). Conclusion. MTHFR gene, smoking, family history of hypertension, Hcy, and triglycerides could be important genetic and high-risk factors of the development of severe hypertension in northern Chinese. These factors will contribute to the identification of high-risk populations of hypertension and facilitate the development of hypertension control strategies.

    Abstract: Mobile phone data have become a critical data source for transportation research. While a cell-id trajectory was routinely reorganized by International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI), it potentially allows to analyze transportation behaviors and social interaction of total population, with a full temporal coverage at low cost. However, cell-id trajectory is often sparse due to low reporting frequency and uncertainness of mobile holders’ position. So, the cell-id trajectory refinement has been recognized as challenging work to further facilitate trajectory data mining. This paper presents a comprehensive approach to identify cell-id trajectories of public service vehicles (PSVs) from large volume of trajectories and further refines these cell-id trajectories by a heuristic global optimization approach. The modified longest common subsequence (LCSS) method is used to match a cell-id trajectory and a public transportation route (PTR) and correspondingly calculates their similarities for determining whether the trajectory is PSV mode or not. Taking full advantages of the nature of a PSV tends to move on the PTR in uniform motion to meet a prescript visit to stops, a heuristic global optimization approach is deployed to build a spatiotemporal model of a PSV motion, which estimates new locations of cell-id trajectories on the PTR. The approach was finally tested using Beijing cellular network signaling datasets. The precision of PSV trajectory detection is 90%, and the recall is 88%. Evaluated by our GNSS-logged trajectories, the mean absolute error (MAE) of refined PSV trajectories is 144.5 m and the standard deviation (St. Dev) is 81.8 m. It shows a significant improvement in comparison of traditional interpolation methods.

    Abstract: This paper concerns a discrete wild and sterile mosquito model with a proportional release rate of sterile mosquitoes. It is shown that the discrete model undergoes codimension-2 bifurcations with 1 : 2, 1 : 3, and 1 : 4 strong resonances by applying the bifurcation theory. Some numerical simulations, including codimension-2 bifurcation diagrams, maximum Lyapunov exponents diagrams, and phase portraits, are also presented to illustrate the validity of theoretical results and display the complex dynamical behaviors. Moreover, two control strategies are applied to the model.

    Abstract: The data generated in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has important research value. In the process of data sharing, data privacy, security, and data availability are important issues that cannot be ignored. This paper proposes a blockchain privacy protection scheme based on zero-knowledge proof to realize the secure sharing of data among data owners, cloud service providers, and semitrusted cloud servers. First, the method of combining zero-knowledge proof and smart contract is used to verify the availability of data between the data owner and the cloud service provider under the premise of protecting data privacy. Second, proxy reencryption technology is used to realize the secure sharing of data among authorized cloud service providers. In addition, data sharing transaction information between multiple parties and data hashes with digital signatures are stored on the blockchain to achieve public and verifiable data sharing information and data validity. Finally, the theoretical analysis of the scheme shows that the scheme meets the confidentiality requirements of security, integrity, and validity.

    Abstract: The Ili River originates in the Tian Shan Mountains of Northwest China before flowing into Kazakhstan and Lake Balkash. Melting snow and ice are its major contributors. We analyzed glacial changes in the upper Ili River basin between the 1960s and 2007/2009 using topographic maps and satellite imagery from a Landsat TM. The relationships between glacial changes and glacial size, topographic factors, and debris cover were examined. Our results found that total glacial area decreased by 485 ± 177.3 km 2 (24.2% ± 8.8%) during the study period, and there were no advancing glaciers. Additionally, 331 glaciers disappeared and 18 disintegrated into two or three smaller glaciers. This study demonstrated a linear relationship between glacial area change and elevation. Changes in glaciers smaller than 1 km 2 were affected by both glacial size and topographic factors, while larger ones were affected by size only. Area losses in debris-covered glaciers were smaller by 2.5% to 7.5% compared to clean ice of the same size in this basin. As in other glaciated regions, glacial retreat in the Ili River basin is attributed to global warming. The slightly increasing precipitation over the study period could not offset the ice melting.
