    Abstract: Cell therapy is a potential therapeutic approach for Parkinson’s disease (PD). Mesenchymal stem cells derived from the human umbilical cord (hUC-MSCs) give priority to PD patients because of multiple advantages. The appropriate gene transduction of hUC-MSC before transplantation is a promising procedure for cell therapy. Fibroblast growth factor-20 (FGF-20) has been shown to protect dopaminergic neurons against a range of toxic insults in vitro. In this study, the hUC-MSCs were gene transduced with FGF-20, and then we transplanted them into the PD mice model. The results showed that MSC-FGF-20 treatment obviously improved the behavior of PD, accompanied by the increase of tyrosine carboxylase- (TH-) positive cell and dopamine (DA). Furtherly, immunohistochemistry disclosed that MSC-FGF-20 obviously promoted the degradation of nuclear factor- κ B (NF- κ B), a transcription factor that controls genes encoding proinflammatory cytokines, highly expressed in the nigrostriatal dopaminergic regions in PD patients. Therefore, MSC-FGF-20 has a potential for improving PD, closely related to the degradation of NF- κ B.

    Abstract: In order to diminish the occurrence of cavitation bubbles during the liquid-assisted laser machining, ultrasound-assisted underwater femtosecond laser drilling on stainless steel is adopted. This method greatly diminishes the optical disturbance of cavitation bubbles. By investigating and analyzing the effect of laser pulse energy and pulse number on the morphology of the holes, it has been found that ultrasound not only has a remarkable function of forming a hole with clean and flat bottom, but also reduces debris redeposition around the processing area. This method improves the machining quality. Besides, it also improves the depth-to-diameter ratio of the hole about 20%.

    Abstract: Rock dynamic constitutive model plays an important role in understanding dynamic response and addressing rock dynamic problems. Based on elastoplastic mechanics and damage mechanics, a dynamic constitutive model of rock coupled with elastoplastic damage is established. In this model, unified strength theory is taken as the yield criterion; to reflect the different damage evolution law of rocks under tension and pressure conditions, the effective plastic strain and volumetric plastic strain are used to represent the compressive damage variable and the equivalent plastic strain is used to represent the tensile damage variable; the plastic hardening behavior and strain rate effect of rocks are characterized by piecewise function and dynamic increase factor function, respectively; Fortran language and LS-DYNA User-Defined Interface (Umat) are used to numerically implement the constitutive model; the constitutive model is verified by three classical examples of rock uniaxial and triaxial compression tests, rock uniaxial tensile test, and rock ballistic test. The results show that the constitutive model can describe the dynamic and static mechanical behavior of rock comprehensively.

    Abstract: Background. Amputation in adults is a serious procedure or traumatic outcome, one that leads to a possible “remapping” of limb representations (somatotopy) in the motor and sensory cortex. The temporal and spatial extent underlying reorganization of somatotopy is unclear. The aim of this study was to better understand how local and global structural plasticity in sensory-motor cortical networks changes temporally and spatially after upper-limb amputation. Methods. We studied 8 healthy nonamputee control subjects and 16 complete upper-limb amputees. Resting-state MRI (rs-fMRI) was used to measure local and large-scale relative differences (compared to controls) in both the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF) and degree of centrality (DC) at 2 months, 6 months, and 12 months after traumatic amputation. Results. In amputees, rs-fMRI scans revealed differences in spatial patterns of ALFF and DC among brain regions over time. Significant relative increases in ALFF and DC were detected not only in the sensory and motor cortex but also in related cortical regions believed to be involved in cognition and motor planning. We observed changes in the magnitude of ALFFs in the pre- and postcentral gyrus and primary sensory cortex, as well as in the anterior cingulate, parahippocampal gyrus, and hippocampus, 2 months after the amputation. The regional distribution of increases/decreases in ALFFs and DC documented at 2-month postamputation was very different from those at 6 and 12-month postamputation. Conclusion. Local and wide-spread changes in ALFFs in the sensorimotor cortex and cognitive-related brain regions after upper-limb amputation may imply dysfunction not only in sensory and motor function but also in areas responsible for sensorimotor integration and motor planning. These results suggest that cortical reorganization after upper extremity deafferentation is temporally and spatially more complicated than previously appreciated, affecting DC in widespread regions.

    Abstract: In order to determine the effective stress factor of proppants during the multi-stage hydraulic fracturing operation in horizontal wells and select the appropriate proppant type, the analysis of the effective stress characteristics of proppants is carried out. This analysis considers the geomechanics and long-term production characteristics of multi-stage fractured horizontal wells in reservoirs like Xinjiang Mahu shale oil and Southwest China shale gas. The analysis of influencing factors is also carried out. The results show that, during the multi-stage hydraulic fracturing operation in horizontal wells, the stress on proppants is not only related to geological factors such as reservoir closure stress, but also closely related to total injection volume, cluster spacing, liquid type, injection displacement and post fracture management. First, increasing injection intensity, reducing fracture spacing, using low viscosity fracturing fluid, adopting high injection displacement and utilizing reasonable flowback system can effectively supplement reservoir energy, postpone the effective stress peak of proppants, and increase the effective conductivity of proppants. Second, the production performance analysis results of nearly 300 horizontal wells (from Xinjiang oil field, Erdos tight oil reservoir, Sichuan shale gas reservoir, etc.) shows that: the effective stress of proppants in horizontal wells is only 50–60% of that in vertical wells, which results in a different proppant selection criterion in the volume stimulation of horizontal wells and provides the geomechanics basis of replacing ceramsite proppant with quartz sand to reduce cost and increase efficiency. Based on the above conclusions, the field test of replacing ceramsite proppant with quartz sand was carried out. The proportion of quartz sand increased from less than 30% in 2014 to 69% in 2019. Without any impact on production, the annual investment cost was decreased by more than 1 billion yuan, which set a great example for the promoted low-cost development of unconventional oil and gas reservoirs under low oil price background.

    Abstract: Music intervention has been applied to improve symptoms of schizophrenic subjects as a complementary treatment in medicine. Although the psychiatric symptoms, especially for motivation and emotion, could be increased in schizophrenia, the underlying neural mechanisms remain poorly understood. We employed a longitudinal study to measure the alteration of striatum functional networks in schizophrenic subjects undergoing Mozart music listening using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Forty-five schizophrenic inpatients were recruited and randomly assigned to two groups. Under the standard care with antipsychotic medication, one group received music intervention for 1 month and the other group is set as control. Both schizophrenic groups were compared to healthy subjects. Resting-state fMRI was acquired from schizophrenic subjects at baseline and after one-month music intervention and from healthy subjects at baseline. Striatum network was assessed through seed-based static and dynamic functional connectivity (FC) analyses. After music intervention, increased static FC was observed between pallidum and ventral hippocampus in schizophrenic subjects. Increased dynamic FCs were also found between pallidus and subregions of default mode network (DMN), including cerebellum crus and posterior cingulate cortex. Moreover, static pallidus-hippocampus FC increment was positively correlated with the improvement of negative symptoms in schizophrenic subjects. Together, these findings provided evidence that music intervention might have an effect on the FC of the striatum-DMN circuit and might be related to the remission of symptoms of schizophrenia.

    Abstract: High efficiency and low cost thermal insulation energy saving panel materials containing sepiolite nanofibers were developed by means of the synergistic action of inorganic adhesive, curing agent, and hydrogen peroxide. The water soluble sodium silicate was used as inorganic adhesive, and the sodium fluorosilicate was chosen as curing agent. Moreover, appropriate amount of hydrogen peroxide was added in order to decrease the bulk density and improve the heat insulation performance of panel materials. The results showed that the synergistic action of inorganic adhesive, curing agent, and hydrogen peroxide could make thermal insulation energy saving panel materials have low bulk density and high mechanical performance, and the optimal process was as follows: 120°C of drying temperature, 1.6% of sodium silicate as inorganic adhesive, 12% of sodium fluorosilicate as curing agent in sodium silicate, and 2.5% of hydrogen peroxide. The thermal insulation energy saving panel materials as prepared could arrest heat transmission and resist external force effectively.
