Abstract: It has been considered that glucose fluctuation (GF) plays a role in renal injury and is related to diabetic nephropathy (DN) development. But the mechanism is still unclear. Aerobic glycolysis has become a topical issue in DN in recent years. There is an internal connection between GF, aerobic glycolysis, and DN. Curcumin (Cur) is a principal curcuminoid of turmeric and possesses specific protective properties in kidney functions. Cur also participates in the regulation of aerobic glycolysis switch. In this study, we first measured the levels of aerobic glycolysis and evaluated Cur’s inhibitory ability in a cell model of HEK-293 under the condition of oscillating high glucose. The results indicated that GF exacerbated inflammation injury, oxidative stress, and apoptosis in HEK-293 cell, while Cur alleviated this cytotoxicity induced by GF. We found that GF increased aerobic glycolysis in HEK-293 cells and Cur presented a dose-dependent weakening effect to this exacerbation. Next, we built a panel of 17 miRNAs and 8 lncRNAs that were previously reported to mediate the Warburg effect. Our RT-qPCR results indicated that GF reduced the miR-489 content in the HEK-293 cell model and Cur could prevent this downregulation. Then, we planned to explore the character of miR-489 in Cur-triggered attenuation of the Warburg effect under GF condition. Our findings presented that Cur prevented GF-triggered aerobic glycolysis by upregulating miR-489 in HEK-293 cells. Next, we choose the miR-489/LDHA axis for further investigation. We confirmed that Cur prevented GF-triggered aerobic glycolysis via the miR-489/LDHA axis in HEK-293 cells. In conclusion, this study presented that Cur prevented GF-triggered renal injury by restraining aerobic glycolysis via the miR-489/LDHA axis in the HEK-293 cell model.

Abstract: In this paper, a second-order accurate (in time) energy stable Fourier spectral scheme for the fractional-in-space Cahn-Hilliard (CH) equation is considered. The time is discretized by the implicit backward differentiation formula (BDF), along with a linear stabilized term which represents a second-order Douglas-Dupont-type regularization. The semidiscrete schemes are shown to be energy stable and to be mass conservative. Then we further use Fourier-spectral methods to discretize the space. Some numerical examples are included to testify the effectiveness of our proposed method. In addition, it shows that the fractional order controls the thickness and the lifetime of the interface, which is typically diffusive in integer order case.

Abstract: The complexity of physical verification increases rapidly with fast shrinking technology nodes. Considering only design rule checking (DRC) constraints or lithography models cannot capture the side physical effects in the fabrication process well. Thus, it is desirable to consider a more general physical verification problem with various types of hotspots. In this paper, we apply machine learning which is based on pixel-based feature extraction to deal with the generalized hotspot detection problem. First, a two-dimensional discrete Fourier transformation-based pixel extraction method is proposed to alleviate the shifting effect and produce stable hotspot features. Then, a pattern-based layout scanning approach is developed to enhance the program efficiency while preserving good detection accuracy. Finally, we design two false alarm reduction strategies to effectively reduce the number of detected nonhotspots and further improve the accuracy of hotspot position. Experimental results based on the industrial benchmarks show that our algorithm outperforms three competitive works in terms of accuracy, false alarm rate, efficiency, and time.

Abstract: Submarine cold seeps have recently attracted significant attention and are among the most effective indicators of gas hydrate in the oceans. In this study, remotely operated vehicle (ROV) observations, seismic profiles, core sediments, bottom seawater, and fluid vented from cold seeps in the deep-water Qiongdongnan Basin were used to investigate the origin and evolution of cold seeps and their relationships with gas hydrate. At stations A, B, and C, inactive cold seeps with dead clams, cold seep leakage with live clams, and active cold seeps with a rich mussel presence, respectively, were observed. The salinity and Na + and Cl - concentrations of the cold seeps were different from those of typical seawater owing to gas hydrate formation and decomposition and fluid originating from various depths. The main ion concentrations of the bottom seawater at stations B and C were higher than those at station A, indicating the substantial effects of low-salinity cold seep fluids from gas hydrate decomposition. The Na + -Cl - , K + -Cl - , Mg 2+ -Cl - , and Ca 2+ -Cl - diagrams and rare earth element distribution curves of the water samples were strongly affected by seawater. The concentrations of trace elements and their ratios to Cl - in the bottom seawater were high at the stations with cold seeps, suggesting the mixing of other fluids rich in those elements. Biochemical reactions may also have caused the chemical anomalies. Samples of HM-ROV-1 indicated a greater effect of upward cold seep fluids with higher B/Cl - , Sr/Cl - , and Ba/Cl - values. Moreover, the Re/Cl - value varied between fluid vents, possibly due to differences in Re precipitation strength. Differences in cold seep intensity are also believed to occur between areas. The cold seep fluxes changed from large to small before finally disappearing, showing a close connection with gas hydrate formation and decomposition, and influenced the local topography and ecosystems.

Abstract: Heart space-occupying lesions are a disease that occurs frequently in clinical setting, and therefore, it is important to diagnose and treat this type of pathologies properly. Angiographic echocardiography and transesophageal sonogram are widely used for clinical diagnosis. Their application provides a guarantee for the diagnosis of cardiac space-occupying lesions. In this paper, the application of cardiac contrast echocardiography and transesophageal echocardiography in cardiac space-occupying lesions was studied. Prediction of cardiac lesions can accurately determine the nature of cardiac occupancies and provide a basis for clinical diagnosis and management judgments. The results of pathological analysis and experimental comparison showed that myocardial contrast echocardiography can accurately distinguish tumor and thrombus and make contribution to patients taking appropriate medical measures. At the same time, it can compare conventional transthoracic echocardiography and transesophageal echocardiography. The results showed that TEE could clearly show the cardiac lesions. The experimental data of 76.9% confirmed cases showed that the diagnostic accuracy is greatly improved. TEE can also clearly show small thrombus that TTE cannot, in which 2DTEE can clearly show the boundary between the space-occupying and surrounding tissues, and whether there is a clear boundary between the space-occupying and surrounding tissues is an important distinguishing point of benign and malignant tumors. In addition, the TEE probe can also be used for large angle imaging and multiangle rotation, so as to determine the tumor boundary and the spatial position relationship between the tumor and the surrounding tissue. All in all, myocardial contrast echocardiography and transesophageal echocardiography have better clinical application effect on cardiac space-occupying lesions.

Abstract: With the emergence and development of various computer technologies, many jobs processed in cloud computing systems consist of multiple associated tasks which follow the constraint of execution order. The task of each job can be assigned to different nodes for execution, and the relevant data are transmitted between nodes to complete the job processing. The computing or communication capabilities of each node may be different due to processor heterogeneity, and hence, a task scheduling algorithm is of great significance for job processing performance. An efficient task scheduling algorithm can make full use of resources and improve the performance of job processing. The performance of existing research on associated task scheduling for multiple jobs needs to be improved. Therefore, this paper studies the problem of multijob associated task scheduling with the goal of minimizing the jobs’ makespan. This paper proposes a task Duplication and Insertion algorithm based on List Scheduling (DILS) which incorporates dynamic finish time prediction, task replication, and task insertion. The algorithm dynamically schedules tasks by predicting the completion time of tasks according to the scheduling of previously scheduled tasks, replicates tasks on different nodes, reduces transmission time, and inserts tasks into idle time slots to speed up task execution. Experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm can effectively reduce the jobs’ makespan.

Abstract: To evaluate the effect of acupuncture on hemiparesis and quality of life for adults with brain astrocytoma grade II, we conducted a randomized, observer-blinded clinical trial. Fifty-eight patients were randomized to standard rehabilitation (SR) therapy without acupuncture ( n = 20 ), SR plus standard acupuncture (SA) ( n = 19 ), and SR plus individualized acupuncture (IA) ( n = 19 ). SA points were PC6 , SP6 , HT1 , LU5 , BL40 , and ST36 , while a special concept called “ connecting and regulation Ren and Du ” and “ Jin-3-needling ” served as IA. This treatment was individualized according to the clinical syndrome. The outcome was measured by the Barthel Index (BI), the Fugl-Meyer scale (FM), and the EORTC Core Quality of Life Questionnaire (QLQ-C30) with the Brain Cancer Module (BCM20). IA + SR reached significantly higher BI scores than SA + SR, which reached significantly higher BI scores than SR. IA + SR was significantly superior to SA + SR and to SR at the 8th week for the scores of FM motor and sensory assessments and most QLQ-C30-BCM20 items. In conclusion, the individualized acupuncture concept of “ connecting and regulating Ren and Du ” combined with “ Jin-3-needling ” offers a promising possibility for the treatment of hemiparesis due to astrocytoma, but further evaluation is mandatory.
