Abstract: Objective : Reading is a crucial academic behavior, which directly affects the formation of personality and develops people's thinking. In the higher education environment, reading culture helps students acquire new knowledge quickly and effectively. However, in recent years, young people and students tend to be lazy to read books, afraid of reading academic books while prefer reading comics and novels. At the same time, the dominance of the internet and audio-visual equipment makes reading in schools and universities become less attractive. This study was conducted with two objectives: (1) To describe the current situation of reading culture; and (2) To identify some factors affecting the reading culture of full-time bachelor students in Hanoi University of Public Health in 2019. Thereby, contributing to raise students' awareness about the roles of reading and providing information to help improving the quality and performance of the university’s library. Methods: The study was conducted on 420 full-time bachelor students from the first year to the fourth year, belonging to four majors of the Hanoi University of Public Health in 2019. Main findings: The study results showed that among 420 full-time bachelor students, 41.0% read books on a regular basis and 80.0% liked reading books. With regression bionary logistic analasys, associated factors with reading frequency includes: Going to library weekly (OR=1,87; p=0,004; CI95%: 1,22 – 2,84) and Completed reading the document assigned by teachers (OR=1,61; p=0,043; CI95%: 1,01 – 2,55). In addition, students who were reading addiction were likely to read all the book assigned, which was higher than the students who did not like reading. Conclusions: With full-time Bachelor students at Hanoi University of Public Health, percentages of students with frequent reading behavior were not high in general. However, it could be seen that the reading behavior of students was influenced by the teachers’ activities. Therefore, teachers should enhance checking books and course materials that students have read before classes as well as setting a criteria on the minimum number of academic books students should read while doing their assignments so that students are more aware of the importance of academic reading while studying at university. Abstract: Objective: Health science students (HSS) are among the group of frontline healthcare providers who are likely to be exposed to SARS-CoV-2 by working with infected patients. With vaccines being one of the most crucial solutions to stop the pandemic, high COVID-19 vaccination coverage must be achieved in this group as soon as the vaccines are available. This research aimed to assess the COVID-19 vaccination acceptance rate and its associated factors among health science students in Vietnam. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study, which surveyed online 8873 students in six health science universities in Vietnam, following the Health Belief Model (HBM) framework. Results: In this study, 84.3% of students accepting the COVID-19 vaccines, 14.7% of students being undecided for vaccination, and 1% of students not accepting vaccination. Determinants of COVID-19 vaccination acceptance included their school year, self-reported health status, allergy histories, susceptibility in risk perception, and factors of the HBM model included perceived benefits and cues to action (p 〈 0.01). In contrast, perceived barriers had a negative association with the probability of vaccine acceptance (p 〈 0.01). These results should be used as scientific evidence to support the development of planning strategies to optimize vaccination uptake and success in vaccination campaigns for both health science students and the general population. Conclusion: Health science students participating in the study had a high rate of COVID-19 vaccination acceptance. The theoretical framework recognized factors that influence vaccine acceptance. These are considered evidence for the development of planning strategies to optimize the vaccination uptake and offer success in vaccination campaigns for both health science students and the general population.

Abstract: Background: Bottled drinking water has become popular for consumption by customers. Bottled drinking water with pathogenic microbiological contamination is a public health concern. This study aimed to describe the current situation of microbiological contamination in bottled drinking water products, food safety conditions and some influencing factors in production facilities in Hau Giang province in 2020. Methods: A cross-sectional study has been conducted in 2020 using quantitative and qualitative methods. The evaluation was carried out at 54 bottled drinking water production facilities, 108 workers/owners and 54 samples collected from facilities for microbiological analysis in the province. In-depth interviews were conducted with local government officials on food safety, two owners of facilities and two workers. Results: It showed that the proportion of microbiological contamination in bottled drinking water accounted for 18.5%, of which P. aeruginosa contamination was 18.5%; and Coliform contamination was 3.7%; No drinking water samples were contaminated with E. coli. 79.6% of facilities met general food safety conditions. There were several factors affecting the proportion of microbiological contamination of bottled drinking water as follows: Bad compliance with food safety in production for the sake of profit by workers, affecting the quality of products such as trash cans without lids; No sterilization treatment before filling; Non-sterilization in filling room. Non-monitoring of UV lights for replacement; No regular cleaning of water pipes, tanks, and discharge valves; Difficulty in state management of food safety for facilities of bottled drinking water production, such as insufficient manpower, lack of equipment and funding for activities. Conclusion: The quality of bottled drinking water in Hau Giang province was not good. The important factors affecting the contaminated bottled drinking water products were identified. We recommend that: management agencies should frequently conduct sudden inspections and supervisions of facilities with no ensured food safety and strictly handle according to regulations. Owners of bottled water facilities should voluntarily comply with food safety. This study is particularly concerned with ensuring food safety conditions in the production of bottled drinking water to prevent products from microbiological contamination. Abstract: Objectives: To determine the percentage of water samples taken from connected water supply stations in Cai Lay District, Tien Giang Province that met the Vietnamese Standards (QCVN 02:2009/BYT) and to determine the factors related to the water quality. Methods: The study used test results of 81 water supply stations collected from the Tien Giang Center for Disease Control in 2020 and compared these with the QCVN 02:2009/BYT. Results: 86.4% of stations had water quality that met QCVN 02:2009/BYT, 90.1% and 96.3% of samples met physicochemical and microbiological criteria. State-owned enterprises had the highest sample rate (100%), followed by the cooperative model (92.3%), the private enterprise model (88.2%), and the cooperative group model (81.0%). Water supply stations with self-inspection of water quality, with correct collection of prescribed prices, with operating models of settling and filtering systems, had better water quality. Conclusions: Water supply facilities should perform self-inspection of water quality and need to have an annual plan for renovation and upgrading of the system, including the installation of settling and filtering systems. The water fee should be raised according to regulations to have reserve funds for investment in construction and repair of water supply systems when they are degraded. Authorities need to take measures to provide technical support, convert inappropriate models, and need to take strict measures against water suppliers that do not comply with regulations. Abstract: Objective: To investigate the current status of pterygium, the relationship between the disease and risk factors from external circumstances and personal factors. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study, conducted in 2021 on elderly people in three rural communes of Khoai Chau district, Hung Yen province. Results: The rate of pterygium in this study was 33.7%, and the prevalence in women was higher than in men. The rates of achieving appropriate knowledge, attitude and practice scores were 25.4%, 87.5% and 29.2%, respectively. People who were regularly exposed to UV rays from the sun had a 2.3 times higher risk of developing pterygium than those with little exposure (OR = 2.3; 95% CI 1.2 – 4.3). People with frequent exposure to bright light sources were 4.5 times more likely to have pterygium than those with little exposure (OR = 4.5; 95% CI 1.7 -11.8). Conclusion: people, especially the elderly and women need to limit their exposure to risk factors from the outside environment that can cause pterygium by wearing sunglasses and safety glasses. Use artificial tears to clean your eyes regularly. Having periodic eye exams for early detection and timely treatment of pterygium was crucial.
