Abstract: The study aimed to identify treatment adherence and its influencing factors among patients attending the methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) at the Center for Disease Control in Dak Lak province. The mixed methods research was applied in this study. The quantitative data used the questionnaire to examine the situation of treatment adherence, while the qualitative data was collected by in-depth interview guidelines to explore the influencing factors. The study was conducted from October 2021 to October 2022. The data was collected from June to July in the Center for Disease Control in Dak Lak province. Of the 185 patients, 17.8% had dropped out of MMT, whereas 82.2% had perceived adherence to methadone treatment. The most-cited reasons for dropping out of MMT were: Busy (62.1%), Forgetting (34.5%), Lack of transportation (17.2%), No one reminded (13.8%), Late (6.9%), Change of residence (6.9%), Economic difficulties (3.5%), Health problems (3.5%). The influencing factors related to methadone adherence include: Living without a husband/wife, being experienced discrimination for 30 days, and finding it challenging to reach out on methadone during the Covid-19 pandemic. The quantitative results show that the family factors and methadone treatment services were not associated with methadone adherence; however, the qualitative results highlight that these factors were more likely to influence methadone adherence. Based on this study’s findings, treatment facilities should be improved the process of methadone treatment, such as minimizing the administrative procedures for patients and arranging the earlier time than office hours. In addition, health workers should be trained to provide psychological support for patients. Keywords: Disease Control in Dak Lak province, methadone, influencing factors.
