Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Hengli ® Chinese botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A; 100 U) in Chinese patients with overactive bladder. Methods: This study was a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in Chinese patients who were inadequately managed with anticholinergic medications. Eligible patients were randomized 2:1 to receive intradetrusor injections of Hengli ® BTX-A ( n = 144) or placebo ( n = 72). The primary endpoint was the change in the number of daily micturition episodes at week 6 from baseline. The secondary efficacy endpoints included the average frequency of urgency and urinary incontinence (UI) episodes per day, urgency score, average micturition volume per day, OABSS, and QoL score. Results: In the Hengli ® BTX-A group, there was a significantly greater reduction in the average number of micturition episodes per 24 h compared with the placebo group (3.28 vs. 1.43; p = 0.003). Moreover, there was a significantly greater improvement in the daily number of urgency episodes, micturition volume and OABSS score. An increased post-void residual urine volume, dysuria, and urinary tract infection represented adverse events (AEs) in the Hengli ® BTX-A group. Most AEs were mild or moderate in severity. One patient in the BTX-A group initiated clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) during treatment. Conclusion: Hengli ® BTX-A treatment was well-tolerated and resulted in significant improvements in OAB symptoms among Chinese patients inadequately managed by anticholinergics. Abstract: Sleep duration is thought to play a key role in the development of metabolic syndrome. However, the results have been inconsistent. Methods We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies and searched publications in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Clinicaltrials.gov. The summary relative risks (RRs) were estimated using a random model. The sensitivity analysis was performed by sequentially excluding each study to test the robustness of the pooled estimates. Finding We included 13 studies involving 300,202 patients in which short sleep and long sleep significantly increased the risk of metabolic syndrome 15% (RR = 1.15, 95%CI = 1.09-1.22, p & lt; 0.001) and 19% (RR = 1.19, 95%CI = 1.05-1.35, p & lt; 0.001). Moreover, the relationship between sleep duration and metabolic syndrome risk presented a U-shaped curve. Short and long sleep increased the risk of obesity by 14% (RR = 1.14, 95%CI = 1.07-1.22, p & lt;0.001) and 15% (RR = 1.15, 95%CI = 1.00-1.30, p = 0.04), and high blood pressure 16% (RR = 1.16, 95%CI = 1.02-1.31, p = 0.03) and 13% (RR = 1.13, 95%CI = 1.04-1.24, p = 0.01), respectively. Short sleep can potentially increase the risk of high blood sugar by 12% (RR = 1.12, 95%CI = 1.00-1.15, P = 0.05). Implications Based on our findings, sleep is a behavior that can be changed and is economical. Clinically doctors and health professionals should be encouraged to increase their efforts to promote healthy sleep for all people.

Abstract: With the proposal of “mass entrepreneurship, mass innovation” and other ideas, the demand for entrepreneurial talent in China is increasing, but the supply of entrepreneurial talent is far insufficient. Consistent with theory of social cognition and planned behavior, this study outlines a conceptual model including entrepreneurial intention (EI), emotional competency (EC), entrepreneurial self-efficacy (ESE), entrepreneurial attitude (EA), entrepreneurial education (EE), and subjective norms (SN). A structural equation model was applied through a questionnaire survey of 382 vocational college students in Jiangxi province to test the relationship between the constructs in the model. The results show that, firstly, EA, EE, ESE, and EC have positive effects on EI, while the positive effect of SN on EI is not supported. Secondly, a mediating role is played by ESE and EA in the association between EI and EE. Thirdly, ESE and EA play mediating roles in the relationship between EI and EC. Some implications of EI for schools and students were discussed.

Abstract: Spin-orbit torque (SOT) provides an efficient approach to control the magnetic state and dynamics in different classes of materials. Recent years, the crossover between two-dimensional van der Waals (2D vdW) materials and SOT opens a new prospect to push SOT devices to the 2D limit. In this mini-review, we summarize the latest progress in 2D vdW materials for SOT applications, highlighting the comparison of the performance between devices with various structures. It is prospected that the large family of 2D vdW materials and numerous combinations of heterostructures will widely extend the material choices and bring new opportunities to SOT devices in the future.

Abstract: The long-term outcomes of acute large vessel occlusion (LVO) in anterior circulation treated by endovascular treatment (EVT) remains to be determined. The aim of this study was to assess the 5-year outcomes of patients with LVO who underwent EVT. Methods This study was an observational, nationwide registry of consecutive patients with acute LVO who received EVT in 28 comprehensive stroke centers in China. The primary outcome was the proportion of favorable outcome [modified Rankin Scale score (mRS) 0–2] at 5 years. Secondary outcomes included proportions of patients with excellent outcome (mRS 0–1), all-cause mortality and risk of stroke recurrence at 5 years. Results A total of 807 patients were included into the study and had 90-day follow-up data, 657 patients had 5-year follow-up data. At 90 days, 218 patients (27.0%) had an excellent outcome, 349 patients (43.2%) had a favorable functional outcome. 199 patients (24.7%) died. At 5 years, 190 patients (28.9%) had an excellent outcome, 261 patients (39.7%) had a favorable functional outcome, 317 patients (48.2%) died and 129 (28.2%) had stroke recurrence. Because of missing 5-year follow-up data, among available 269 patients who achieved functional independence at 90 days, 208 (77.3%) maintained favorable outcome, 19 (7.1%) had disability (mRS 3–5) and 42 (15.6%) died at 5 years. Furthermore, among available 189 patients with mRS 3–5 at 90 days, 53 (28.0%) patients achieved favorable functional outcome, 60 (31.7%) patients maintained unfavorable functional outcome and 76 (40.2%) patients died within 5 years. Multivariate analyses identified that younger age [odds ratio (OR): 0.96; 95% CI, 0.93–0.99; P = 0.009], lower mRS at 90 days (OR: 0.15; 95% CI, 0.10–0.23; P & lt; 0.001) and absence of stroke recurrence (OR: 0.001; 95% CI, 0.000–0.006; P & lt; 0.001) were significantly associated with favorable outcome at 5 years. Advanced age (OR: 1.06, 95% CI, 1.04–1.08; P & lt; 0.001), higher mRS at 90 days (OR: 0.84; 95% CI, 0.73–0.98; P = 0.021) and atrial fibrillation (OR: 1.63; 95% CI, 1.02–2.60; P = 0.04) were independent factors for stroke recurrence. Conclusion Our results indicated that the beneficial effect of EVT in patients with acute LVO can be sustained during the course of at least 5 years. Reducing the risk of stroke recurrence by anticoagulation for atrial fibrillation may be a crucial strategy to improve long-term outcome.

Abstract: Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies examining differences in the activity of brain networks between the first depressive episode (FDE) and recurrent depressive episode (RDE) are limited. The current study observed and compared the altered functional connectivity (FC) characteristics in the default mode network (DMN), cognitive control network (CCN), and affective network (AN) between the RDE and FDE. In addition, we further investigated the correlation between abnormal FC and clinical symptoms. Methods We recruited 32 patients with the RDE, 31 patients with the FDE, and 30 healthy controls (HCs). All subjects underwent resting-state fMRI. The seed-based FC method was used to analyze the abnormal brain networks in the DMN, CCN, and AN among the three groups and further explore the correlation between abnormal FC and clinical symptoms. Results One-way analysis of variance showed significant differences the FC in the DMN, CCN, and AN among the three groups in the frontal, parietal, temporal, and precuneus lobes and cerebellum. Compared with the RDE group, the FDE group generally showed reduced FC in the DMN, CCN, and AN. Compared with the HC group, the FDE group showed reduced FC in the DMN, CCN, and AN, while the RDE group showed reduced FC only in the DMN and AN. Moreover, the FC in the left posterior cingulate cortices and the right inferior temporal gyrus in the RDE group were positively correlated with the 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD-17), and the FC in the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortices and the right precuneus in the FDE group were negatively correlated with the HAMD-17. Conclusions The RDE and FDE groups showed multiple abnormal brain networks. However, the alterations of abnormal FC were more extensive and intensive in the FDE group.

Abstract: Since obesity impairs wound closure and adipose-derived exosomes (ADEs) regulate wound healing in clinical applications, we hypothesized that ADEs may inhibit adipogenesis of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) to reduce the adverse effects of obesity on wound healing. Hedgehog (Hh) signaling has been previously shown to inhibit adipogenesis in ADSCs. The present study aimed to determine the role of ADEs in the adipogenesis of ADSCs and the Hh signaling pathway. ADSCs collected from human adipose tissues were co-cultured with ADEs and treated with an adipogenic inducer. qRT-PCR showed that ADEs could inhibit adipogenic differentiation of ADSCs and activate Hh signaling. The differences in the mRNA expression profiles of genes related to Hh signaling between the groups that were exposed to either high fat or low fat indicated that increased Hh signaling activation is necessary but not sufficient to inhibit adipogenic differentiation in the ADSC differentiation process. The Hh signaling pathway can be activated effectively by ADEs, especially during high-fat exposure after treatment with ADEs. Oil Red O staining of adipocytes suggested that ADEs inhibited not only adipogenic differentiation, but also lipogenesis in ADSCs. Overall, targeted activation of Hh signaling by ADEs reduced lipid accumulation in ADSCs and may be explored for clinical applications.

Abstract: Studies on differences in brain function activity between the first depressive episode (FDE) and recurrent depressive episodes (RDE) are scarce. In this study, we used regional homogeneity (ReHo) and amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF) as indices of abnormal brain function activity. We aimed to determine the differences in these indices between patients with FDE and those with RDE, and to investigate the correlation between areas of abnormal brain function and clinical symptoms. Methods A total of 29 patients with RDE, 28 patients with FDE, and 29 healthy controls (HCs) who underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging were included in this study. The ReHo and ALFF measurements were used for image analysis and further analysis of the correlation between different brain regions and clinical symptoms. Results Analysis of variance showed significant differences among the three groups in ReHo and ALFF in the frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital lobes. ReHo was higher in the right inferior frontal triangular gyrus and lower in the left inferior temporal gyrus in the RDE group than in the FDE group. Meanwhile, ALFF was higher in the right inferior frontal triangular gyrus, left anterior cingulate gyrus, orbital part of the left middle frontal gyrus, orbital part of the left superior frontal gyrus, and right angular gyrus, but was lower in the right lingual gyrus in the RDE group than in the FDE group. ReHo and ALFF were lower in the left angular gyrus in the RDE and FDE groups than in the HC group. Pearson correlation analysis showed a positive correlation between the ReHo and ALFF values in these abnormal areas in the frontal lobe and the severity of depressive symptoms ( P & lt; 0.05). Abnormal areas in the temporal and occipital lobes were negatively correlated with the severity of depressive symptoms ( P & lt; 0.05). Conclusion The RDE and FDE groups had abnormal neural function activity in some of the same brain regions. ReHo and ALFF were more widely distributed in different brain regions and had more complex neuropathological mechanisms in the RDE group than in the FDE group, especially in the right inferior frontal triangular gyrus of the frontal lobe.
