    Abstract: Chemoradiotherapy (CRT) has been associated with increased incidence of cardiovascular (CV) adverse events (CVAE). Coronary artery calcium scoring (CAC) has shown to predict coronary events beyond the traditional CV risk factors. This study examines whether CAC, measured on standard of care, non-contrast chest CT (NCCT) imaging, predicts the development of CVAE in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treated with CRT. Methods Patients with NSCLC treated with CRT at MD Anderson Cancer Center from 7/2009 until 4/2014 and who had at least one NCCT scan within 6 months from their first CRT were identified. CAC scoring was performed on NCCT scans by an expert cardiologist and a cardiac radiologist following the 2016 SCCT/STR guidelines. CVAE were graded based on the most recent Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) version 5.0. CVAE were also grouped into (i) coronary/vascular events, (ii) arrhythmias, or (iii) heart failure. All CVAE were adjudicated by a board-certified cardiologist. Results Out of a total of 193 patients, 45% were female and 91% Caucasian. Mean age was 64 ± 9 years and mean BMI 28 ± 6 kg/m 2 . Of 193 patients, 74% had CAC & gt;0 Agatston units (AU), 49% CAC ≥100 AU and 36% CAC ≥300 AU. Twenty-nine patients (15%) developed a grade ≥2 CVAE during a median follow-up of 24.3 months (IQR: 10.9–51.7). Of those, 11 (38%) were coronary/vascular events. In the multivariate cox regression analysis, controlling for mean heart dose and pre-existing CV disease, higher CAC score was independently associated with development of a grade ≥2 CVAE [HR: 1.04 (per 100 AU), 95% CI: 1.01–1.08, p = 0.022] and with worse overall survival (OS; CAC ≥100 vs. & lt;100 AU, HR: 1.64, 95% CI: 1.11–2.44, p = 0.013). In a sub-analysis evaluating the type of the CVAE, it was the coronary/vascular events that were significantly associated with higher baseline CAC (median: 676 AU vs. 73 AU, p = 0.035). Discussion Cardiovascular adverse events are frequent in patients with NSCLC treated with CRT. CAC calculated on “standard of care” NCCT can predict the development of CVAEs and specifically coronary/vascular events, as well as OS, independently from other traditional risk factors and radiation mean heart dose.     Abstract: Morphogenesis is an important process that widely occurs in almost all the organisms, including the ciliated protists. Ciliates are a large group of single-celled eukaryotes that can reproduce asexually (e.g., binary fission) and perform sexual process (e.g., conjugation). Morphogenesis happens in both asexual reproduction and sexual process in ciliates and the reorganization during conjugation is more complex. However, studies of morphogenesis focusing on conjugation are very limited. Here we studied the morphogenetic process during conjugation in the marine species Euplotes raikovi Agamaliev, 1966. The results indicate that: (1) the ciliature in the ventral side reorganizes twice during sexual process, i.e., conjugational and postconjugational reorganization; (2) the adoral zone of membranelles (AZM) is generated de novo in a pouch beneath the cortex during both reorganizations, with the anterior part generated during the first reorganization, while the posterior part formed during the second reorganization; (3) the frontoventral-transverse (FVT) cirri anlagen are formed de novo in both processes with the fragmentation pattern of 2:2:3:3:2; (4) one left marginal cirrus is generated de novo during both reorganizations; and (5) the dorsal ciliature remains intact during the whole process, except that the two caudal cirri originate from the end of the right-most two dorsal kineties during both reorganizations. Comparisons of the morphogenetic process during conjugation demonstrate a considerably stable pattern within Euplotes while the patterns vary dramatically among different ciliate groups.

    Abstract: Oncolytic viruses (OVs) are considered a promising therapeutic alternative for cancer. However, despite the development of novel OVs with improved efficacy and tumor selectivity, their limited efficacy as monotherapeutic agents remains a significant challenge. This study extended our previously observed combination effects of propranolol, a nonselective β -blocker, and the T1012G oncolytic virus into colorectal cancer models. A cell viability assay showed that cotreatment could induce synergistic killing effects on human and murine colorectal cell lines. Moreover, cotreatment caused sustained tumor regression compared with T1012G monotherapy or propranolol monotherapy in human HCT116 and murine MC38 tumor models. The propranolol activity was not via a direct effect on viral replication in vitro or in vivo . Western blotting showed that cotreatment significantly enhanced the expression of cleaved caspase-3 in HCT116 and MC38 cells compared with the propranolol or T1012G alone. In addition, propranolol or T1012G treatment induced a 35.06% ± 0.53% or 35.49% ± 2.68% reduction in VEGF secretion in HUVECs ( p & lt; 0.01/ p & lt; 0.01). Cotreatment further inhibited VEGF secretion compared with the monotherapies (compared with propranolol treatment: 75.06% ± 1.50% decrease, compared with T1012G treatment: 74.91% ± 0.68%; p <0.001, p & lt; 0.001). Consistent with the in vitro results, in vivo data showed that cotreatment could reduce Ki67 and enhance cleaved caspase 3 and CD31 expression in human HCT116 and murine MC38 xenografts. In summary, β -blockers could improve the therapeutic potential of OVs by enhancing oncolytic virus-mediated killing of colorectal cancer cells and colorectal tumors.

    Abstract: A synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image is crucial for ship detection in computer vision. Due to the background clutter, pose variations, and scale changes, it is a challenge to construct a SAR ship detection model with low false-alarm rates and high accuracy. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel SAR ship detection model called ST-YOLOA. First, the Swin Transformer network architecture and coordinate attention (CA) model are embedded in the STCNet backbone network to enhance the feature extraction performance and capture global information. Second, we used the PANet path aggregation network with a residual structure to construct the feature pyramid to increase global feature extraction capability. Next, to cope with the local interference and semantic information loss problems, a novel up/down-sampling method is proposed. Finally, the decoupled detection head is used to achieve the predicted output of the target position and the boundary box to improve convergence speed and detection accuracy. To demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method, we have constructed three SAR ship detection datasets: a norm test set (NTS), a complex test set (CTS), and a merged test set (MTS). The experimental results show that our ST-YOLOA achieved an accuracy of 97.37%, 75.69%, and 88.50% on the three datasets, respectively, superior to the effects of other state-of-the-art methods. Our ST-YOLOA performs favorably in complex scenarios, and the accuracy is 4.83% higher than YOLOX on the CTS. Moreover, ST-YOLOA achieves real-time detection with a speed of 21.4 FPS.
