    Abstract: Social networks are widely used as a fast and ubiquitous information-sharing medium. The mass spread of food rumours has seriously invaded public’s healthy life and impacted food production. It can be argued that the government, companies, and the media have the responsibility to send true anti-rumour messages to reduce panic, and the risks involved in different forms of communication to the public have not been properly assessed. The manuscript develops an empirical analysis model from 683 food anti-rumour cases and 7,967 data of the users with top comments to test the influence of the strength of rumour/anti-rumour on rumour control. Furthermore, dividing the users into three categories, Leaders, Chatters, and General Public, and study the influence of human characteristics on the relationship between the strength of rumour/anti-rumour and rumour control by considering the different human characteristics as moderator variables. The results showed that anti-rumours have a significant positive impact on the control of rumours; the ambiguity of rumours has a significant negative impact on the Positive Comment Index (PCI) in rumour control. Further, the Leaders increased the overall level of PCI, but negatively adjusted the relationship between evidence and PCI; the Chatters and the General Public reduced the overall level of PCI, and Chatters weakened the relationship between the specific type of anti-rumour form and PCI while the General Public enhanced the relationship between the specific type of anti-rumour form and PCI. In the long run, the role of Leaders needs to be further improved, and the importance of the General Public is growing in the food rumour control process.

    Abstract: AI-based clinical decision support system (CDSS) has important prospects in overcoming the current informational challenges that cancer diseases faced, promoting the homogeneous development of standardized treatment among different geographical regions, and reforming the medical model. However, there are still a lack of relevant indicators to comprehensively assess its decision-making quality and clinical impact, which greatly limits the development of its clinical research and clinical application. This study aims to develop and application an assessment system that can comprehensively assess the decision-making quality and clinical impacts of physicians and CDSS. Methods Enrolled adjuvant treatment decision stage early breast cancer cases were randomly assigned to different decision-making physician panels (each panel consisted of three different seniority physicians in different grades hospitals), each physician made an independent “Initial Decision” and then reviewed the CDSS report online and made a “Final Decision”. In addition, the CDSS and guideline expert groups independently review all cases and generate “CDSS Recommendations” and “Guideline Recommendations” respectively. Based on the design framework, a multi-level multi-indicator system including “Decision Concordance”, “Calibrated Concordance”, “ Decision Concordance with High-level Physician”, “Consensus Rate”, “Decision Stability”, “Guideline Conformity”, and “Calibrated Conformity” were constructed. Results 531 cases containing 2124 decision points were enrolled; 27 different seniority physicians from 10 different grades hospitals have generated 6372 decision opinions before and after referring to the “CDSS Recommendations” report respectively. Overall, the calibrated decision concordance was significantly higher for CDSS and provincial-senior physicians (80.9%) than other physicians. At the same time, CDSS has a higher “ decision concordance with high-level physician” (76.3%-91.5%) than all physicians. The CDSS had significantly higher guideline conformity than all decision-making physicians and less internal variation, with an overall guideline conformity variance of 17.5% (97.5% vs. 80.0%), a standard deviation variance of 6.6% (1.3% vs. 7.9%), and a mean difference variance of 7.8% (1.5% vs. 9.3%). In addition, provincial-middle seniority physicians had the highest decision stability (54.5%). The overall consensus rate among physicians was 64.2%. Conclusions There are significant internal variation in the standardization treatment level of different seniority physicians in different geographical regions in the adjuvant treatment of early breast cancer. CDSS has a higher standardization treatment level than all physicians and has the potential to provide immediate decision support to physicians and have a positive impact on standardizing physicians’ treatment behaviors.

    Abstract: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of hybrid porous crystalline materials that are assembled with metal ions/clusters and organic linkers. The fungibility of organic ligands and metal centers endow MOFs that are easy to design and synthesize. Based on their unique structure, multifarious MOFs with diverse functionalities have recently been widely applied in various research areas. Particularly striking is the application of photo-responsive MOFs in biological sensing and imaging. Notably, the photoelectronic properties make photo-responsive MOFs an ideal platform for cancer phototherapy. Moreover, ultrahigh porosities and tunable pore sizes allow MOFs to load anticancer drugs, further enhancing the antitumor efficiency. In this review, the categories and developing strategies of MOFs are briefly introduced. The application fields of MOFs in bioimaging, such as up-conversion fluorescence imaging, single/two-photon fluorescence bioimaging, magnetic resonance imaging, etc., are summarized. The working mechanism of MOFs in photo-responsive, photothermal therapy (PTT), and photodynamic therapy (PDT) are expounded. Examples of using MOFs for cancer treatment, including PTT, PDT, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, are also demonstrated. Lastly, current limitations, challenges, and future perspectives for bioimaging and cancer treatment of MOFs are discussed. We believe that the versatile MOF will bring the dawn to the next generation of cancer treatment.

    Abstract: Background: The data on long-term outcomes of patients infected by SARS-CoV-2 and treated with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in China are merely available. Methods: A retrospective study included 73 patients infected by SARS-CoV-2 and treated with ECMO in 21 intensive care units in Hubei, China. Data on demographic information, clinical features, laboratory tests, ECMO durations, complications, and living status were collected. Results: The 73 ECMO-treated patients had a median age of 62 (range 33–78) years and 42 (63.6%) were males. Before ECMO initiation, patients had severe respiratory failure on mechanical ventilation with a median PO 2 /FiO 2 of 71.9 [interquartile range (IQR), 58.6–87.0] mmHg and a median PCO 2 of 62 [IQR, 43–84] mmHg on arterial blood analyses. The median duration from symptom onset to invasive mechanical ventilation, and to ECMO initiation was19 [IQR, 15–25] days, and 23 [IQR, 19–31] days. Before and after ECMO initiation, the proportions of patients receiving prone position ventilation were 58.9 and 69.9%, respectively. The median duration of ECMO support was 18.5 [IQR 12–30] days. During the treatments with ECMO, major hemorrhages occurred in 31 (42.5%) patients, and oxygenators were replaced in 21 (28.8%) patients. Since ECMO initiation, the 30-day mortality and 60-day mortality were 63.0 and 80.8%, respectively. Conclusions: In Hubei, China, the ECMO-treated patients infected by SARS-CoV-2 were of a broad age range and with severe hypoxemia. The durations of ECMO support, accompanied with increased complications, were relatively long. The long-term mortality in these patients was considerably high.

    Abstract: Immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy has evolved as a revolutionized therapeutic modality to eradicate tumor cells by releasing the brake of the antitumor immune response. However, only a subset of patients could benefit from ICB treatment currently. Phototherapy usually includes photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT). PTT exerts a local therapeutic effect by using photothermal agents to generate heat upon laser irradiation. PDT utilizes irradiated photosensitizers with a laser to produce reactive oxygen species to kill the target cells. Both PTT and PDT can induce immunogenic cell death in tumors to activate antigen-presenting cells and promote T cell infiltration. Therefore, combining ICB treatment with PTT/PDT can enhance the antitumor immune response and prevent tumor metastases and recurrence. In this review, we summarized the mechanism of phototherapy in cancer immunotherapy and discussed the recent advances in the development of phototherapy combined with ICB therapy to treat malignant tumors. Moreover, we also outlined the significant progress of phototherapy combined with targeted therapy or chemotherapy to improve ICB in preclinical and clinical studies. Finally, we analyzed the current challenges of this novel combination treatment regimen. We believe that the next-generation technology breakthrough in cancer treatment may come from this combinational win-win strategy of photoimmunotherapy.

    Abstract: Reliable biomarkers are needed to improve preeclampsia (PE) prediction accuracy. With the investigational tool of peptidomics, we aimed to identify and validate potential serum peptide biomarkers in cohorts suspected for PE development in middle or late pregnancy. Methods Totally 195 serum samples were prospectively collected from pregnant women with PE-related syndromes who were followed up for PE development until delivery. Serum peptidomic analysis was performed in the discovery cohort of 115 samples using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight coupled with Linear Trap Quadropole Orbitrap mass spectrometry. The candidate biomarkers were further validated using an in-house developed liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method in an independent validation cohort of 80 serum samples. Results We identified 8 peptides that were differentially expressed and originated from fibrinogen alpha chain (FGA), inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain H4 (ITIH4) and complement component 3. In the subsequent LC-MS/MS quantitation analysis, the levels of the three peptides (FGA-1033.4, ITIH4-2026.9, ITIH4-2051.1) exhibited a significant difference between the PE-positive and PE-negative groups. Further, the three-peptide panel yielded an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.985 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.965–1.000] and 0.923 (95% CI 0.845–1.000) in the discovery and validation cohorts respectively, with negative predictive values of 98.1–98.8% and positive predictive values of 73.1–85.3% that were much improved when compared with that of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1/placental growth factor (sFlt-1/PlGF) ratio. Conclusions We have discovered and validated a novel three-peptide biomarker panel predictive for the occurrence PE in pregnant women.

    Abstract: Background: Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is a leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality worldwide but the incidence and its risk factors in China is limited. The objective of this study is to investigate the incidence and the risk factors of PPH in Chinese women. Methods: A multi-center retrospective study of pregnant women at ≥28 weeks of gestation was conducted. Logistic regression was used to identify potential risk factors of PPH and receiver operating characteristic curve was used to evaluate the predictive performance of the identified risk factors. Subgroup analysis focusing on the number of fetus and the mode of delivery was conducted. Results: A total of 99,253 pregnant women were enrolled and 804 (0.81%) experienced PPH. The subgroup analysis revealed that the incidence of PPH was 0.75, 2.65, 1.40, and 0.31% in singletons, twin pregnancies, cesarean sections, and vaginal deliveries, respectively. Placenta previa and placenta accreta were the predominant risk factors of PPH in the overall population and all subgroups. A twin pregnancy was a risk factor for PPH regardless of the mode of delivery. Obesity, and multiparity were risk factors for PPH in both singletons and cesarean section cases, but the latter predicted a reduced probability of PPH in vaginal deliveries. Macrosomia was associated with increased risk of PPH in singletons or vaginal deliveries. In women who delivered vaginally, preeclampsia was associated with a higher risk of PPH. The areas under the curve for the overall cohort, singletons, twin pregnancies, cesarean section cases, and vaginal deliveries were 0.832 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.813–0.851), 0.824 (95% CI 0.803–0.845), 0.686 (95% CI 0.617–0.755), 0.854 (95% CI 0.834–0.874), and 0.690 (95% CI 0.646–0.735), respectively. Conclusions: The risk factors of PPH varied slightly based on the number of fetuses and the mode of delivery, while placenta previa and placenta accreta were the two major risk factors. A combination of the identified risk factors yielded a satisfactory predictive performance in determining PPH in the overall cohort, singletons pregnancies, and women who delivered by cesarean section, whereas the performance was moderate in twin pregnancies and in women delivering vaginally.

    Abstract: As a link between the internal and external basin, the deep derived fluids play a key role during the processes of hydrocarbon (HC) formation and accumulation in the form of organic-inorganic interaction. Two questions remain to be answered: How do deep-derived fluids affect HC generation in source rocks by carrying a large amount of matter and energy, especially in post-mature source rocks with weak HC generation capability? Can hydrogen and catalysts from deep sources significantly increase the HC generation potential of the source rock? In this study, we selected the post-mature kerogen samples of the early Cambrian Yurtus Formation in the Tarim Basin of China. Under the catalytic environment of ZnCl 2 and MoS 2 , closed system gold tube thermal simulation experiments were conducted to quantitatively verify the contribution of catalytic hydrogenation to "HC promotion" by adding H 2 . The catalytic hydrogenation increased the kerogen HC generation capacity by 1.4–2.1 times. The catalytic hydrogenation intensity reaction increased with temperature. The drying coefficient of the generated gas decreased significantly as the increasing yield of heavy HC gas. In the simulation experiment, alkane δ 13 C becomes lighter after the catalytic hydrogenation experiment, while δ 13 C CO2 becomes heavier. In the process of catalytic hydrogenation, the number of gaseous products catalyzed by ZnCl 2 is higher than that catalyzed by MoS 2 under the same conditions, indicating that ZnCl 2 is a better catalyst for the generation of gaseous yield. Meanwhile, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FFT) reaction was happened in the catalytic hydrogenation process. The simulation experiment demonstrates that hydrogen-rich components and metal elements in deep-derived fluids have significant catalytic hydrogenation effects on organic-rich matter, which improved the HC generation efficiency of post-mature source rocks.
