Abstract: Introduction: The vanadium-titanium iron ore tailings (VTIOTs) has a significant amount of discharge, and serious pollution, which makes it difficult to use directly as a resources resource. Methods: High-strength fired water permeable brick (HSFWPB) was prepared using VTIOTs as the main raw material. The orthogonal test, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), and synthetic precipitation leaching procedure (SPLP) were obtained to study the basic properties and firing mechanism of HSFWPB containing VTIOTs, and an economic benefit evaluation was conducted on the project investment of HSFWPB containing VTIOTs. Results: The results show that when the content of VTIOTs in HSFWPB is 78%, the firing temperature (FT) is 1080°C and the holding time is 120 min, the compressive strength and permeability coefficient of the fired product reach 70.4 MPa and 0.055 cmˑs −1 , respectively, which meet the requirements of Cc60 grade products in Water permeable brick (JC/T 945–2005). The products of HSFWPB containing VTIOTs after firing are diopside (CaMgSi 2 O 6 ) and augite (Ca (Mg, Fe, Al) (Si, Al) 2 O 6 ), with the increase of FT and the extension of HT, the low melting point elements of P, Na, K dissolve out, and the content of Fe and Al in the firing products increases, most of Ca 2+ in diopside is replaced by Fe 3+ , so that augite becomes the main crystal phase. With the increase of FT, the pores in the fired products are changed from: closed pores with different sizes→ connected pores with irregular diameters→ irregular collapse pores→ small and uniform circular pores, which provides a guarantee for the permeability of HSFWPB containing VTIOTs. Discussion: The full investment payback period of the project of HSFWPB containing VTIOTs is 1.77 years. When the production reaches 48.585% of the design output, it reaches a breakeven point, and the project has strong risk resistance ability. The research has improved the utilization rate of VTIOTs and provided a new approach for the large-scale application of VTIOTs.

Abstract: Carbon nanomaterials with high electrical conductivity, good chemical, and mechanical stability have attracted increasing attentions and shown wide applications in recent years. In particularly, hollow carbon nanomaterials, which possess ultrahigh specific surface area, large surface-to-volume ratios, and controllable pore size distribution, will benefit to provide abundant active sites, and mass loading vacancy, accelerate electron/ion transfer as well as contribute to the specific density of energy storage systems. In this mini-review, we summarize the recent progresses of hollow carbon nanomaterials by focusing on the synthesis approaches and corresponding nanostructures, including template-free and hard-template carbon hollow structures, metal organic framework-based hollow carbon structures, bowl-like and cage-like structures, as well as hollow fibers. The design and synthesis strategies of these hollow carbon nanomaterials have been systematically discussed. Finally, the emerging challenges and future prospective for developing advanced hollow carbon structures were outlined.

Abstract: Competitive cognition dynamics are widespread in modern society, especially with the rise of information-technology ecosystem. While previous works mainly focus on internal interactions among individuals, the impacts of the external public opinion environment remain unknown. Here, we propose a heuristic model based on co-evolutionary game theory to study the feedback-evolving dynamics of competitive cognitions and the environment. First, we show co-evolutionary trajectories of strategy-environment system under all possible circumstances. Of particular interest, we unveil the detailed dynamical patterns under the existence of an interior saddle point. In this situation, two stable states coexist in the system and both cognitions have a chance to win. We highlight the emergence of bifurcation phenomena, indicating that the final evolutionary outcome is sensitive to initial conditions. Further, the attraction basins of two stable states are not only influenced by the position of the interior saddle point but also affected by the relative speed of environmental feedbacks.

Abstract: Centipedegrass [ Eremochloa ophiuroides (Munro) Hack.] is a perennial warm-season grass that originated in China, and its speed of nodal rooting is important for lawn establishment. In our study, centipedegrass nodal rooting ability was limited by node aging. Transcriptome sequencing of nodal roots after 0, 2, 4, and 8 days of water culture was performed to investigate the molecular mechanisms of root development. GO enrichment and KEGG pathway analyses of DEGs indicated that plant hormone signal transduction and transcription factors might play important roles in centipedegrass nodal root growth. Among them, E3 ubiquitin-protein ligases participated in multiple hormone signal transduction pathways and interacted with transcription factors. Furthermore, an E3 ubiquitin protein ligase EoSINAT5 overexpressed in rice resulted in longer roots and more numerous root tips, while knockout of LOC_Os07g46560 (the homologous gene of EoSINAT5 in rice) resulted in shorter roots and fewer root tips. These results indicated that EoSINAT5 and its homologous gene are able to promote nodal root development. This research presents the transcriptomic analyses of centipedegrass nodal roots, and may contribute to elucidating the mechanism governing the development of nodal roots and facilitates the use of molecular breeding in improving rooting ability.

Abstract: O-GlcNAcylation is a post-translational modification of proteins that involves the addition of O-GlcNAc to serine or threonine residues of nuclear or cytoplasmic proteins, catalyzed by O-GlcNAc transferase (OGT). This modification is highly dynamic and can be reversed by O-GlcNAcase (OGA). O-GlcNAcylation is widespread in the immune system, which engages in multiple physiologic and pathophysiologic processes. There is substantial evidence indicating that both the hexosamine biosynthesis pathway (HBP) and O-GlcNAcylation are critically involved in regulating immune cell function. However, the precise role of O-GlcNAcylation in the immune system needs to be adequately elucidated. This review offers a thorough synopsis of the present research on protein O-GlcNAcylation, accentuating the molecular mechanisms that control immune cells’ growth, maturation, and performance via this PTM.

Abstract: Steel slag (SS) is a kind of industrial solid waste, and its accumulation brings certain harm to the ecological environment. In order to promote the building material utilization of SS, high-temperature modification (HTM) of SS is performed using a composite modifier (CMSFR) containing silicon calcium slag (SCS), fly ash (FA), and reservoir sediment (RS). Then, the authors investigated the effect of CMSFR on the cementitious properties and volume soundness of SS mixture after HTM (SMHTM). After that, the mineral composition and microstructure of SMHTM were investigated through X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), and particle size analysis. It was found that the free CaO (f-CaO) content obviously decreased, and the cementitious properties improved in SMHTM. When the CMSFR content was 20% (SCS: FA: RS = 9:7:4), and the modification temperature (MT) was 1,250°C, the mass fraction of f-CaO in SMHTM dropped from 4.81% to 1.90%, down by 60.5%; the 28-day activity index of SMHTM increased to 85.4%, 14.3% higher than that of raw SS, which meets the technical requirement of Steel slag powder used for cement and concrete (GB/T 20491-2017): the activity index of grade I SS powder must be greater than or equal to 80%. As the mass fraction of CMSFR grew from 10% to 30%, new mineral phases formed in SMHTM, including diopside (CMS 2 ), ceylonite (MgFe 2 O 4 ), gehlenite (C 2 AS), tricalcium aluminate (C 3 A), and magnetite (Fe 3 O 4 ). The HTM with CMSFR promotes the decomposition of RO phase (a continuous solid solution composed of divalent metal oxides like FeO, MgO, MnO, and CaO) in raw SS, turning the FeO in that phase into Fe 3 O 4 . The above results indicate that the SMHTM mixed with CMSFR can be applied harmless in cement and concrete, making low-energy fine grinding of SS a possibility.

Abstract: Introduction: In order to improve the utilization efficiency of industrial waste discharged in the process of iron and steel metallurgy, a kind of material that can replace cement for mine filling is sought. In the test, steel slag (SS) and vanadium-titanium slag (VTS) were used as the primary raw materials to prepare cementing agents (CA). Then, combine it with vanadium-titanium iron ore tailings (VTIOTs) to make mine cemented paste backfill material (CPBM). Methods: The composition, properties and hydration mechanism of CPBM are studied through various tests, in-cluding mechanical property test, hydration heat test, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electronic mi-croscopy (SEM), and fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Results: The results show that when the following conditions are met, the slump is 216 mm, and the 28-day flexural strength and compressive strength of CPBM reach 4.25 and 9.41 MPa, respectively, which meets the requirements of Chinese National Standard GB/T 39489-2020 Technical specification for the total tailings paste backfill: the mass percentage SS: VTS: phosphogypsum (PG): dicyandiamide waste slag (DWS) = 31:59:6:4; the content of compound phosphoric acid (CPA) accounts for 4% of the dry material; the cement sand ratio of CPBM is 1:4; the paste mass concentration (PMC) is 80%; and the content of water reducing agent (WRA) is 0.18%. Discussion: Mechanism studies show that the hydration product of the CA is mainly ettringite (AFt) and C-S-H gel. The addition of CPA promotes the hydration of active minerals in SS and VTS. The existence of PG pro-motes the formation of AFt, and the formation of AFt further promotes the fracture of [AlO 4 ] 5− and [SiO 4 ] 4− along the bridge oxygen in VTS and SS.

Abstract: Falls and fall-related injuries are not uncommon among older adults and may lead to serious health deterioration and decreased quality of life. Numerous types of physical activity have been proposed to improve balance and strength in older adults with varying degrees of success. Nintendo's Wii Fit video exergame uses body movement as a game controller and provides real-time feedback for games designed to enhance balance and muscle strength. However, whether Wii Fit exercise improves the balance and lower limb muscle strength of older adults remains uncertain. Objective To evaluate the current literature by using meta-analyses to assess whether Wii Fit exercise is associated with improved balance and lower limb muscle strength in older adults. Methods We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang Data from inception to February 16, 2022, for relevant studies and conducted a manual search of the literature. Data extraction of the included studies were independently performed by two authors. The methodologic quality of each included study was assessed using the Physical Therapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale. Meta-analyses were conducted using Review Manager 5.3. Results Of 991 articles initially identified, 10 articles (379 participants; aged ≥65 years, range 65–92 years; 188 participants in Wii Fit exercise groups, and 191 participants in control groups), including 8 randomized controlled trials, were assessed in this meta-analysis. The methodologic quality of the included studies evaluated with the PEDro average score was 6.4 and ranged from 5 to 8 points, indicating moderate quality. Compared with no exercise, Wii Fit exercise was associated with significant improved scores on the Berg Balance Scale, which evaluates functional balance (mean difference, 1.38; 95% CI, 0.61–2.16; I 2 = 31%; P = 0.0005) and on the Timed Up and Go test, which evaluates static and dynamic balance (standardized mean difference, −0.51; 95% CI,−0.88 to −0.14; I 2 = 52%; P = 0.007). However, for the three studies assessed, Wii Fit exercise did not significantly improve scores on the 30-s chair stand test, which evaluates the functional strength and endurance of the lower limb muscles (mean difference, 0.82; 95% CI, −0.14 to 1.77; z = 1.68; P = 0.09). Conclusions Our findings indicated that Wii Fit exercise is an effective approach to improve functional, static, and dynamic balance among older adults. Additional meta-analyzes with higher numbers of randomized controlled trials are suggested to confirm the benefits of Wii Fit exercise on balance in older adults, to establish whether functional strength and endurance of lower limb muscles are improved, and to explore the relationship between improved balance and fall prevention in this population.

Abstract: It has been shown that circular RNA XPO1 (circXPO1) is involved in cancer (e.g., lung adenocarcinoma and osteosarcoma) progression by sponging microRNAs. Nevertheless, the role of circXPO1 and its interaction with microRNAs in prostate cancer remains unknown. In this study, the results of quantitative real-time PCR showed that circXPO1 levels were dramatically increased in human prostate cancer tissue and cell lines compared with those in normal tissue and cell line. Furthermore, cell proliferation, colony formation, and cell invasion assays showed that circXPO1 promoted the malignant behavior of pancreatic cells in vitro . Mechanistically, bioinformatics prediction, a dual-luciferase reporter assay, and pull-down assay suggested that circXPO1 physically targets miR-23a and negatively regulates its expression in pancreatic cancer cells. miR-23a mimics and inhibitors effectively reversed the effects of circXPO1 on the malignant behavior of prostate cancer cells in vitro . Consistent results were observed in the xenograft tumor model. In conclusion, circXPO1 promotes prostate cancer progression via targeting miR-23a, thus suggesting the circXPO1/miR-23a axis can be used as a potential therapeutic target for prostate cancer treatment.

Abstract: In the past few decades, nanomaterial‐mediated phototherapy has gained significant attention as an alternative antitumor strategy. However, its antitumor success is majorly limited to the treatment of subcutaneous tumors in nude mice. In fact, no studies have been previously conducted in this area/field on clinically‐relevant big animal models. Therefore, there is an urgent need to conduct further investigation in a typical big animal model, which is more closely related to the human body. Results In this study, niobium carbide (NbC) was selected as a photoactive substance owing to the presence of outstanding near-infrared (NIR) absorption properties, which are responsible for the generation of NIR‐triggered hyperthermia and reactive oxygen species that contribute towards synergetic photothermal and photodynamic effect. Moreover, the present study utilized macrophages as bio‐carrier for the targeted delivery of NbC, wherein phagocytosis by macrophages retained the photothermal/photodynamic effect of NbC. Consequently, macrophage-loaded NbC ensured/allowed complete removal of solid tumors both in nude mice and big animal models involving rabbits. Meanwhile, two‐dimensional ultrasound, shave wave elastography (SWE), and contrast‐enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) were used to monitor physiological evolution in tumor in vivo post-treatment, which clearly revealed the occurrence of the photoablation process in tumor and provided a new strategy for the surveillance of tumor in big animal models. Conclusion Altogether, the use of a large animal model in this study presented higher clinical significance as compared to previous studies.
