    Abstract: The Qilian–Haiyuan fault zone (QHF) is located in a highly deformed and seismically active area of the northeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau. This study investigated the major elements, strontium, hydrogen, and oxygen isotopes of 22 sites in the thermal springs along the QHF from October to November 2020. The QHF hydrochemical system is recharged by meteoric water primarily infiltrating between 2.8 and 4.4 km a.s.l. Based on quartz geothermometers, the geothermal reservoir temperature variation ranged from 25.5 to 111.3°C, and the circulation depth ranged from 1.3 to 5.6 km. In the QHF zone, the highest spring water temperature values were correlated with deep groundwater circulation circuits in areas where earthquake foci are concentrated. A conceptual model of the hydrologic cycle of thermal springs explains the spatial distribution of earthquakes associated with tectonic movements. The fluid circulation of the QHF corresponds well with the seismicity, which indicates that the hydrological characteristics of the thermal spring in a fault zone are vital in receiving information on seismic activity to assess the seismic risk of the QHF in the future.

    Abstract: In recent years, the problem of Cd pollution in paddy fields has become more and more serious, which seriously threatens the safe production of food crops and human health. Using microorganisms to reduce cadmium pollution in rice fields is a green, safe and efficient method, the complicated interactions between the microbes in rice roots throughout the process of cadmium absorption by rice roots are poorly understood. In this investigation, a hydroponic pot experiment was used to examine the effects of bacteria R3 ( Herbaspirillum sp) and T4 ( Bacillus cereus ) on cadmium uptake and the endophytic bacterial community in rice roots. The results showed that compared with CK (Uninoculated bacterial liquid), the two strains had significant inhibitory or promotive effects on cadmium uptake in rice plant, respectively. Among them, the decrease of cadmium content in rice plants by R3 strain reached 78.57-79.39%, and the increase of cadmium content in rice plants by T4 strain reached 140.49-158.19%. Further investigation showed that the cadmium content and root cadmium enrichment coefficient of rice plants were significantly negatively correlated with the relative abundances of Burkholderia and Acidovorax , and significantly positively correlated with the relative abundances of Achromobacter , Agromyces and Acidocella . Moreover, a more complex network of microbes in rice roots inhibited rice plants from absorbing cadmium. These results suggest that cadmium uptake by rice plants is closely related to the endophytic bacterial community of roots. This study provides a reference scheme for the safe production of crops in cadmium contaminated paddies and lays a solid theoretical foundation for subsequent field applications.

    Abstract: For major depressive disorder (MDD), there has been a lack of neuroimaging markers of efficacy of pharmacological treatment. In this study, we aimed to explore the neuroimaging mechanisms in patients with first-episode MDD and identify markers that predict the efficacy of 5-hydroxytryptamine reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) with the use of resting-state brain imaging technology. Methods A total of 101 patients with first-episode MDD and 53 normal controls were finally included in this study. Based on the reduction rate of the score of Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17) during the 2-week SSRI treatment, 31 patients were assigned into the unresponsive group and 32 were assigned into the responsive group. The brain function was compared between patients with MDD and normal controls, and the diagnostic value of brain function was analyzed. With brain regions showing differences between patients with MDD and normal controls as a mask, and the brain function between the responsive and unresponsive groups were compared. Correlations between brain function the HAMD-17 score reduction rate during the 2-week SSRI treatment were analyzed. Results Compared to normal controls, patients with MDD showed increased ReHo in the left parahippocampal gyrus and right parahippocampal gyrus, decreased ReHo in the right middle occipital gyrus, and decreased functional connectivity between the right and left parahippocampal gyri, right middle occipital gyrus and middle temporal gyrus. Receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed that the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.544 (95% CI: 0.445–0.644) for ReHo and 0.822 (95% CI: 0.734–0.909) for functional connectivity. Logistic regression pooling of the differences in ReHo mean time series with the functional connectivity mean time series was performed for the ROC curve analysis, which showed an AUC of 0.832 (95% CI: 0.752–0.911). Compared to the responsive group, the unresponsive group showed elevated ReHo in the right parahippocampal gyrus and lower functional connectivity in the middle temporal gyrus. We also found that the ReHo value was negatively correlated with the HAMD-17 score reduction after 2 weeks of SSRI treatment. Conclusion Altered resting-state brain function in some regions might be a neurobiological marker for the diagnosis of MDD, and ReHo values are expected to be predictors of patient response to treatment with SSRIs.     Abstract: Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) are widely used to assess obesity, but they are limited in their ability to distinguish complicated body metabolic situations (fat mass, lean body mass, visceral and subcutaneous fat deposits in the abdomen). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of different anthropometric indices in metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and to identify the best cut-off point for the diagnosis of MAFLD in United States adults. Methods A cross-sectional study among 4,195 participants over 18 years old in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2017–2018 was performed. All patients underwent vibration controlled transient elastography (VCTE). Assess the anthropometric measurements, including BMI, WC, waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), cardiometabolic index (CMI), triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, hepatic steatosis index (HSI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), body roundness index (BRI), visceral fat index (VAI), abdominal volume index (AVI), cone index (CI), and body fat index (BAI). Logistic regression analyses were conducted to estimate the impact of these indices, on the odds ratio (OR) values of MAFLD. Receiver operator characteristic (ROC) analyses were performed to assess the diagnosing capacity of these anthropometric indices for MAFLD and identify the optimal cut-offs points. Results A total of 4,195 (2,069 men and 2,126 women) participants were performed, with 45.4 ± 0.64 (mean ± SD) years old. All anthropometric metrics were positively associated with MAFLD, irrespective of whether it was treated as continuous or categorical variable (P & lt;0.05). Multivariate logistic regression showed a positive correlation between AVI, HSI, WHtR, BRI, and MAFLD, with significant interaction with gender. ROC curves results showed that LAP had the highest AUC [0.813 (95% CI, 0.800–0.826)] , especially in participants aged between 18 and 50 years old. Furthermore, LAP showed the highest ROC in both the training set [0.812 (95% CI, 0.800–0.835)] and the validation set [0.809 (95% CI, 0.791–0.827)] . Conclusions In the present study, we showed that those anthropometric indices were significantly associated with MAFLD in United States adults. Besides, the association of HSI, BRI, AVI, and WHtR with MAFLD was more obvious in men than in women. LAP may be a sensitive marker for diagnosing MAFLD in U.S. adults.

    Abstract: The incorporation of functional building blocks to construct functionalized and highly porous covalent triazine frameworks (CTFs) is essential to the emerging adsorptive-involved field. Herein, a series of amide functionalized CTFs (CTF-PO71) have been synthesized using a bottom-up strategy in which pigment PO71 with an amide group is employed as a monomer under ionothermal conditions with ZnCl 2 as the solvent and catalyst. The pore structure can be controlled by the amount of ZnCl 2 to monomer ratio. Benefitting from the highly porous structure and amide functionalities, CTF-PO71, as a sulfur cathode host, simultaneously demonstrates physical confinement and chemical anchoring of sulfur species, thus leading to superior capacity, cycling stability, and rate capability in comparison to unfunctionalized CTF. Meanwhile, as an adsorbent of organic dye molecules, CTF-PO71 was demonstrated to exhibit strong chemical interactions with dye molecules, facilitating adsorption kinetics and thereby promoting the adsorption rate and capacity. Furthermore, the dynamic adsorption experiments of organic dyes from solutions showed selectivity/priority of CTF-PO71s for specific dye molecules.

    Abstract: Pulmonary sarcomatoid cancer (PSC) is a very rare subtype of poorly differentiated non-small-lung-cancer (NSCLC) with very poor prognosis. To date, the optimal treatment for PSC has not been elucidated, and the efficacy of anlotinib in PSC has not been previously reported. Case Presentation A 77-year-old male patient was admitted with cough, expectoration, and blood-stained sputum for one month. CT showed a soft mass in the inferior lobe of the right lung, which was diagnosed as spindle cell carcinoma (PSC) by histopathology. A videothoracoscopic right lower lobectomy and mediastinal lymph node dissection procedure was performed on the patient, but the disease recurred one month after surgery. The patient was then given first-line chemotherapy with gemcitabine and albumin paclitaxel for one cycle, but the disease continued to progress. The patient then received anlotinib combined with second-line chemotherapy (dacarbazine and cis-platinum) for six cycles, and the response reached complete remission (CR). Then the patient was given maintenance therapy with anlotinib alone, and the disease was still stable at the most recent reexamination. Progression-free survival (PFS) has lasted for more than two years, without any intolerable toxicity. Conclusion This postoperative recurrent PSC patient achieved significant clinical benefits with anlotinib treatment. Our findings provide direct evidence of the efficacy of anlotinib in PSC. More studies are needed to confirm our observation.

    Abstract: The relationship between metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and liver stiffness and bone mineral density (BMD) remains unclear. Objectives We aimed to investigate the association between MAFLD and liver stiffness and BMD in the United States population. Methods A cross-sectional study among 2031 participants over 50 years old in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2017-2018 was performed. All patients underwent vibration controlled transient elastography (VCTE) and dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA). The linear and logistic regression model were used to analyze the association between the MAFLD and liver stiffness and osteoporosis, with adjustments for known covariates. Furthermore, the sensitive analyses were conducted to explore the relationship between MAFLD and liver stiffness and whole osteoporosis (include femoral and lumbar osteoporosis). Results MAFLD was prevalent in the study population, with a prevalence of 50.9% for men and 40.7% for women. The multiple linear models demonstrated positive associations between MAFLD and liver stiffness and total femur BMD, femur neck BMD, trochanter BMD, intertrochanter BMD. In multiple logistic regression models, both MAFLD and significant liver fibrosis were negatively associated with femoral osteoporosis (OR=0.41, 95% CI: 0.27 to 0.63; OR=0.67, 95% CI: 0.33-1.37, respectively). Nonetheless, when BMI was adjusted, the association between MAFLD and liver stiffness and osteoporosis became insignificant. Besides, as showed in the sensitive analyses, the relationship between MAFLD and liver stiffness and whole osteoporosis were stable. Conclusions These results suggest that MAFLD and liver stiffness were associated with higher femoral and lumbar bone mineral density in individuals aged over 50 years. But the results may be confounded by BMI.

    Abstract: Many reports have emphasized that unconscious processing demands attention. However, some studies were unable to observe a modulation of attentional load in subliminal visual processing. We proposed that the paradoxical phenomena could be explained based on whether the mental workload task was involved in central executive processes. In two experiments, by combining a masked shape discrimination task with an N-back task, executive attention availability for masked visuomotor processing decreased as the N-back task demand increased. We observed that unconscious visuomotor priming diminished with increasing executive attention load in Experiment 2; however, this pattern did not occur in Experiment 1. Further analysis verified that in Experiment 1, the role of the central executive in unconscious visuomotor priming was eliminated by the accuracy-speed trade-off since the higher load spatial N-back tasks with larger memory set sizes, compared with higher load verbal N-bask tasks, were quite difficult for the subjects to manage. Therefore, our results demonstrated that central executive load modulates unconscious visuomotor priming and that this modulation can be weakened by task difficulty. Collectively, by emphasizing the essential role of executive attention in subliminal visuomotor priming, the present work provides a powerful interpretation of prior debates and develops extant attention capacity limitations from the realm of consciousness to that of unconsciousness.
