Abstract: In regions with a ban on forest logging, fruit-bearing shrubs are favored as an alternative source of ecological products over the harvesting of timber. The introduction of cultured shrubs from their habitat to newly developed lands has to be decided according to nutrient availability. Foliar nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) stoichiometry is an easily measured and reliable parameter to quickly indicate possible limits in imbalanced N-P availability. When attempting to create a spatial distribution map of the foliar N:P ratio in an objective shrub species, it is helpful to first explore its potential acclimation to the N:P imbalance caused by the joint forces of soil property and regional climate. This study evaluated the cultivated populations of Vaccinium uliginosum in northeastern China's agroforests, using Vaccinium uliginosum as a model shrub species. A total of 51 populations were selected from 51 managed stands, of which 34 were in forests and 17 on farmlands. Foliar N and P concentrations, soil physical and chemical properties, and topography were investigated in 2018, and regional climatic factors were assessed by averaging previous 5-year records (2013–2018). V. uliginosum was determined to have a foliar N:P ratio lower than 4.4, which can be characterized as a limit of N relative to that of P. On forested lands, soil pH negatively impacted regressed foliar N:P, which was also part of the contributions of soil total P content and average temperature to foliar N concentration. On farmlands, low soil pH also resulted in a reduced foliar N:P ratio with joint contributions of ammonium N, nitrate N, and available P contents in soils and air humidity. Spatial interpolation indicated that western forests could benefit from introduced V. uliginosum with a higher foliar N concentration, while the introduction to eastern farmlands can lead to a higher foliar N:P ratio up to 14.6. Our study demonstrates recommended locations with expected soil and meteorological conditions by mapping spatial distributions, which can be referred to by other species and regions.

Abstract: Assessing vegetation restoration and degradation trends is important for regional ecological conservation and sustainable development, yet few studies have examined the characteristics of these trends in natural and artificial vegetation in arid zones. In this study, we develop an assessment framework based on two common ecological indicators, Net Primary Productivity (NPP) and Water Use Efficiency (WUE). We discuss the restoration and degradation trends of natural and artificial vegetation in China’s Northwest Arid Region (NAR) and analyze the similarities and differences between the changes in the two. Our results reveal the following: (1) Both natural vegetation (Nav) NPP and artificial vegetation (Arv) NPP in the NAR are dominated by significant growth, with precipitation being the most influential factor. Arv NPP changes are greater than Nav NPP. (2) WUE and NPP have similar spatial distribution characteristics, with precipitation and temperature dominating WUE changes in the Qilian Mountains and s southern Xinjiang, respectively. In the near future, Nav WUE is expected to be dominated by improvement to degradation, while Arv WUE will continue to improve under human intervention. These two indices respond differently to the environmental factors that cause their changes. (3) Nav and Arv exhibit similar restoration and degradation trends, mainly dominated by early recovery with Nav displaying a slightly more prominent restoration trend than Arv. The NPP-WUE assessment framework will help to rapidly assess vegetation degradation and restoration at large scales, providing new perspectives for research in this field.

Abstract: Objectives: As current clinical practice guidelines, ticagrelor is the suggested therapeutic scheme to prevent adverse cardiovascular events in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) treatment. However, this therapeutic strategy still fails, and around 30% patients display inadequate antiplatelet responses. Musk Tongxin Dripping Pill (MTDP) in Chinese hospital was usually considered as the combination with ticagrelor to improve the treatment effect. Unfortunately, the mechanism has not been elucidated. Methods: The untargeted metabolomic method was introduced based on liquid chromatography–high-resolution mass spectrometry (HPLC-HRMS) coupled with STI for the research of the drug combination mechanism between ticagrelor and MTDP. 28 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of AMI were selectively collected, who were then divided into two different dosage regimen groups, and the serum samples were collected for the untargeted metabolomics assay. Then the differential metabolites were associated with blood biochemical indicators. Results: The GLS values in both groups increased after treatment and those in the ticagrelor and MTDP combination group after treatment were higher than those in the ticagrelor group ( p & lt; 0.05), suggesting that the combination medication has better therapeutic effect on patients with myocardial infarction. From metabolomics analysis, the species of metabolites changed in two groups before and after treatment. Moreover, 93 differential metabolites changed in the drug combination group compared with the ticagrelor group after treatment ( p & lt; 0.05), which mainly related to changes in fatty acid metabolism pathways. Then the differential metabolites were found to be related with blood biochemical indicators, such as lipid, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL). Conclusion: This work will provide a possible mechanism of the drug combination interaction between ticagrelor and MTDP from two angles of echocardiography and metabonomics. Several potential metabolic pathways were also found to have a relationship with MTDP, which will provide a new perspective in clinical medication.

Abstract: In this study, the differences in chlorophyll fluorescence transient (OJIP) and modulated 820 nm reflection (MR 820 ) of cucumber leaves were probed to demonstrate an insight into the precise influence of melatonin (MT) on cucumber photosystems under low temperature stress. We pre-treated cucumber seedlings with different levels of MT (0, 25, 50, 100, 200, and 400 μmol · L -1 ) before imposing low temperature stress (10 °C/6 °C). The results indicated that moderate concentrations of MT had a positive effect on the growth of low temperature-stressed cucumber seedlings. Under low temperature stress conditions, 100 μmol · L -1 (MT 100) improved the performance of the active photosystem II (PSII) reaction centers (PIabs), the oxygen evolving complex activity (OEC centers) and electron transport between PSII and PSI, mainly by decreasing the L-band, K-band, and G-band, but showed differences with different duration of low temperature stress. In addition, these indicators related to quantum yield and energy flux of PSII regulated by MT indicated that MT (MT 100) effectively protected the electron transport and energy distribution in the photosystem. According to the results of W O-I ≥ 1 and MR 820 signals, MT also affected PSI activity. MT 100 decreased the minimal value of MR/MR O and the oxidation rate of plastocyanin (PC) and PSI reaction center (P700) ( V ox ), while increased △MR slow /MR O and deoxidation rates of PC + and P 700 + ( V red ). The loss of the slow phase of MT 200 and MT 400-treated plants in the MR 820 kinetics was due to the complete prevention of electron movement from PSII to re-reduce the PC + and P700 + . These results suggest that appropriate MT concentration (100 μmol · L -1 ) can improve the photosynthetic performance of PS II and electron transport from primary quinone electron acceptor (Q A ) to secondary quinone electron acceptor (Q B ), promote the balance of energy distribution, strengthen the connectivity of PSI and PSII, improve the electron flow of PSII via Q A to PC + and P 700 + from reaching PSI by regulating multiple sites of electron transport chain in photosynthesis, and increase the pool size and reduction rates of PSI in low temperature-stressed cucumber plants, All these modifications by MT 100 treatment promoted the photosynthetic electron transfer smoothly, and further restored the cucumber plant growth under low temperature stress. Therefore, we conclude that spraying MT at an appropriate concentration is beneficial for protecting the photosynthetic electron transport chain, while spraying high concentrations of MT has a negative effect on regulating the low temperature tolerance in cucumber.

Abstract: The plant-specific lateral organ boundaries (LOB) domain (LBD) proteins, a family of transcription factors, play important roles in plant growth and development, as well as in responses to various stresses. However, little is known about the functions of LBD genes in soybean ( Glycine max ). In this study, we investigated the evolution and classification of the LBD family in soybean by a phylogenetic tree of the LBD gene family from 16 species. Phylogenetic analysis categorized these proteins into two classes (Class I and Class II) with seven subgroups. Moreover, we found that all the 18 LBD ancestors in angiosperm were kept in soybean, common bean genomes, and genome-wide duplication, suggesting the main force for the expansion of LBD from common bean to soybean. Analysis of gene expression profiling data indicated that 16 GmLBD genes were significantly induced at different time points after inoculation of soybean plants (cv. Huachun 6) with Phytophthora sojae ( P. sojae ). We further assessed the role of four highly upregulated genes, GmLBD9 , GmLBD16 , GmLBD23 , and GmLBD88 , in plant defense in soybean hairy roots using the transient overexpression and knockdown assays. The results showed that GmLBD9 and GmLBD23 negatively regulate plant immunity against P. sojae , whereas GmLBD16 and GmLBD88 positively manipulate plant immunity against P. sojae . Collectively, our findings expand our knowledge of the origin and evolution of the GmLBD gene family in soybean and promote the potential application of these genes in soybean genetic improvement.

Abstract: Aim: To explore the knowledge and attitudes of newly graduated registered nurses, who have undergone standardized training in the intensive care unit, about the early mobilization of mechanically ventilated patients and identify perceived barriers to the application of early mobilization. Background: Early mobilization of mechanically ventilated patients has been gradually gaining attention, and its safety and effectiveness have also been verified. Nurses in intensive care units are the implementers of early mobilization, and the quality of their care is closely related to patient prognosis. However, the knowledge and attitude of newly graduated registered nurses undergoing standardized training, in intensive care units, on the early mobilization of mechanically ventilated patients and the obstacles they face in clinical implementation are still unclear. Methods: This qualitative study utilized the phenomenological method to explore the experiences of 15 newly graduated registered nurses undergoing standardized training in intensive care units in a 3rd hospital in Shanghai, China. Semi-structured face-to-face interviews were conducted in June 2020. The Colaizzi seven-step framework was used for data analysis. Findings: A total of 15 new nurses comprised the final sample after data saturation. Three main themes emerged from the analysis and seven subthemes: perceived importance, low implementation rate, and perceived barriers. Conclusions: Newly graduated registered nurses undergoing standardized training in intensive care units have a high level of awareness of the importance of early mobilization of mechanically ventilated patients and are willing to implement it. However, there is a lack of relevant knowledge and other obstacles that restrict clinical implementation. Early mobilization should be included in the standardized training of new nurses in intensive care units.

Abstract: With the expansion of nursing enrollment, more and more male students are joining the nursing program. Nevertheless, the number of male nurses who actually stay in clinical work in China continues to be low. Clinical practicum is a critical period during which nursing students transform to the role of registered nurses. However, few studies have researched the perspective and experience during clinical practicum among male nursing students in 3-year vocational colleges in China. Objectives To explore the perspective and experience of Chinese male nursing students during clinical practicum in the third year. One of the main objectives is to provide implications for future nursing education and to help male nursing students for better adaptation to clinical roles. Methods The qualitative study used a purposive sampling method and collected data through in-depth, semi-structured interviews. The participants were 20 male students from a 3-year vocational college in Shanghai. They completed the basic nursing course in college and underwent a clinical practicum in the 3rd level hospitals in China between July 2020 and March 2021. A Seven-stage Colaizzi process was used for data analysis. Results Three themes were revealed through content analysis: opportunities and challenges brought by gender factors in hospital humanistic environment, gaining experience and growth during clinical practicum, and future career planning. Conclusions The presented findings further our understanding of the perspective and experience of male nursing students during clinical practicum. It is very important and necessary for providing implications for future nursing education. At the same time, effective support from society, such as social unions, mass media, government, can help better address male nursing students' needs and complete the role transform of registered nurses.

Abstract: Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a condition characterized by menstrual disturbance, subfertility, and estrogen deficiency symptoms. Women with POI have a small chance of natural conception, which may be even smaller when complicated with unilateral ovarian due to reduction of the ovarian follicular reserve. In China, acupuncture has been widely used to treat POI and POI-induced infertility, and studies have shown that acupuncture is helpful for improving ovarian function. Thread-embedding therapy is a method of acupuncture treatment development and extension, which can make the acupuncture effect last. In this article, we report a patient diagnosed with POI after unilateral oophorectomy (UO) who spontaneously conceived after thread-embedding therapy. Thread-embedding therapy may improve ovarian function in patients with POI, thereby providing a treatment strategy for infertility in patients with POI. This case report was written in accordance with the CARE guidelines.

Abstract: To investigate whether there is added value of quantitative parameters from synthetic magnetic resonance imaging (SyMRI) as a complement to the Kaiser score (KS) to differentiate benign and malignant breast lesions. Materials and methods In this single-institution study, 122 patients who underwent breast MRI from March 2020 to May 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. SyMRI and dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI were performed using a 3.0-T system. Two experienced radiologists independently assigned the KS and measured the quantitative values of T1 relaxation time (T1), T2 relaxation time (T2), and proton density (PD) from SyMRI. Pathology was regarded as the gold standard. The diagnostic values were compared using the appropriate statistical tests. Results There were 122 lesions (86 malignant and 36 benign) in 122 women. The T1 value was identified as the only independent factor for the differentiation of malignant and benign lesions. The diagnostic accuracy of incorporating the T1 into the KS protocol (T1+KS) was 95.1% and 92.1% for all lesions (ALL) and The American College of Radiology (ACR) Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) category 4 lesions, respectively, which was significantly higher than that of either T1 (ALL: 82.8%, P = 0.0001; BI-RADS 4: 78.9%, P = 0.002) or KS (ALL: 90.2%, P = 0.031; BI-RADS 4: 84.2%, P = 0.031) alone. The sensitivity and specificity of T1+KS were also higher than those of the T1 or KS alone. The combined diagnosis could have avoided another 15.6% biopsies compared with using KS alone. Conclusions Incorporating T1 into the KS protocol improved both the sensitivity and specificity to differentiate benign and malignant breast lesions, thus avoiding unnecessary invasive procedures.
