    Kurzfassung: Skin tissue suffering from severe damages fail in self-regeneration. Proper wound dressings are highly demanded to protect the wound region and accelerate the healing process. Although large efforts have been devoted, there still exist disturbing dilemmas for traditional dressings. The exquisite design of bio-interface upon superwettable materials opens new avenues and addresses the problems perfectly. However, the advancements in this area have rarely been combed. In light of this, this minireview attempts to summarize recent strategies of superwettable bio-interfaces for wound care. Concentrating on the management of biofluids (blood and exudate), we described superwettable hemostatic bio-interfaces first, and then introduced the management of exudates. Finally, the perspective of this area was given. This minireview gives a comprehensive outline for readers and is believed to provide references for the design of superwettable materials in biomedical area.

    Kurzfassung: Previous studies have identified the treatment effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on cravings of patients with methamphetamine use disorder (MUD). However, the mechanism underlying the treatment effect remains largely unknown. A potential candidate mechanism could be that rTMS over the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) modulates the attention bias to methamphetamine-related cues. The purpose of this study is therefore to determine the modulation of rTMS on methamphetamine-related attention bias and the corresponding electrophysiological changes. Methods Forty-nine patients with severe MUD were included for analysis. The subjects were randomized to receive the active intermittent theta-burst stimulation (iTBS) or sham iTBS targeting DLPFC for 20 sessions. Participants performed the Addiction Stroop Task before and after the treatment while being recorded by a 64-channel electroencephalogram. Baseline characteristics were collected through the Addiction Severity Index. Results Post-treatment evaluations showed a reduced error rate in discriminating the color of methamphetamine words in the active iTBS group compared with the sham iTBS group. Following rTMS treatment, we found the significant time-by-group effect for the N1 amplitude (methamphetamine words & gt; neutral words) and P3 latency (methamphetamine words & gt; neutral words). The change of N1 amplitude was positively correlated with cravings in the active group. Moreover, reduced power of neural oscillation in the beta band, manifesting at frontal central areas, was also found in the active group. Conclusion This study suggests that attention bias and the beta oscillation during the attentional processing of methamphetamine words in patients with MUD could be modulated by iTBS applied to left DLPFC.

    Kurzfassung: Nowadays, most courses in massive open online course (MOOC) platforms are xMOOCs, which are based on the traditional instruction-driven principle. Course lecture is still the key component of the course. Thus, analyzing lectures of the instructors of xMOOCs would be helpful to evaluate the course quality and provide feedback to instructors and researchers. The current study aimed to portray the lecture styles of instructors in MOOCs from the perspective of natural language processing. Specifically, 129 course transcripts were downloaded from two major MOOC platforms. Two semantic analysis tools (linguistic inquiry and word count and Coh-Metrix) were used to extract semantic features including self-reference, tone, effect, cognitive words, cohesion, complex words, and sentence length. On the basis of the comments of students, course video review, and the results of cluster analysis, we found four different lecture styles: “perfect,” “communicative,” “balanced,” and “serious.” Significant differences were found between the different lecture styles within different disciplines for notes taking, discussion posts, and overall course satisfaction. Future studies could use fine-grained log data to verify the results of our study and explore how to use the results of natural language processing to improve the lecture of instructors in both MOOCs and traditional classes.

    Kurzfassung: Classical swine fever (CSF) is a highly contagious viral disease causing severe economic losses to the swine industry. As viroporins of viruses modulate the cellular ion balance and then take over the cellular machinery, blocking the activity of viroporin or developing viroporin-defective attenuated vaccines offers new approaches to treat or prevent viral infection. Non-structural protein p7 of CSF virus (CSFV) is a viroporin, which was highly involved in CSFV virulence. Deciphering the interaction between p7 and host proteins will aid our understanding of the mechanism of p7-cellular protein interaction affecting CSFV replication. In the present study, seven host cellular proteins including microtubule-associated protein RP/EB family member 1 (MAPRE1), voltage-dependent anion channel 1 (VDAC1), proteasome maturation protein (POMP), protein inhibitor of activated STAT 1 (PIAS1), gametogenetin binding protein 2 (GGNBP2), COP9 signalosome subunit 2 (COPS2), and contactin 1 (CNTN1) were identified as the potential interactive cellular proteins of CSFV p7 by using yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) screening. Plus, the interaction of CSFV p7 with MAPRE1 and VDAC1 was further evaluated by co-immunoprecipitation and GST-pulldown assay. Besides, the p7-cellular protein interaction network was constructed based on these seven host cellular proteins and the STRING database. Enrichment analysis of GO and KEGG indicated that many host proteins in the p7-cellular protein interaction network were mainly related to the ubiquitin-proteasome system, cGMP-PKG signaling pathway, calcium signaling pathway, and JAK-STAT pathway. Overall, this study identified potential interactive cellular proteins of CSFV p7, constructed the p7-cellular protein interaction network, and predicted the potential pathways involved in the interaction between CSFV p7 and host cells.

    Kurzfassung: Alginate oligosaccharides (AOS) are functional substances in seaweed extracts that regulate crop quality and stress tolerance. In this paper, the effects of AOS spray application on the antioxidant system, photosynthesis and fruit sugar accumulation in citrus was investigated through a two-year field experiment. The results showed that 8-10 spray cycles of 300-500 mg L -1 AOS (once per 15 days) increased soluble sugar and soluble solid contents by 7.74-15.79% and 9.98-15.35%, respectively, from citrus fruit expansion to harvesting. Compared with the control, the antioxidant enzyme activity and the expression of some related genes in citrus leaves started to increase significantly after the 1st AOS spray application, while the net photosynthetic rate of leaves increased obviously only after the 3rd AOS spray cycle, and the soluble sugar content of AOS-treated leaves increased by 8.43-12.96% at harvest. This suggests that AOS may enhance photosynthesis and sugar accumulation in leaves by antioxidant system regulation. Moreover, analysis of fruit sugar metabolism showed that during the 3rd to 8th AOS spray cycles, AOS treatment increased the activity of enzymes related to sucrose synthesis (SPS, SSs), upregulated the expression of sucrose metabolism ( CitSPS1 , CitSPS2 , SUS ) and transport ( SUC3 , SUC4 ) genes, and promoted the accumulation of sucrose, glucose and fructose in fruits. Notably, the concentration of soluble sugars in citrus fruits was significantly reduced at all treatments with 40% reduction in leaves of the same branch, but the loss of soluble sugars in AOS-treated fruits (18.18%) was higher than that in the control treatment (14.10%). It showed that there was a positive effect of AOS application on leaf assimilation product transport and fruit sugar accumulation. In summary, AOS application may improve fruit sugar accumulation and quality by regulating the leaf antioxidant system, increasing the photosynthetic rate and assimilate product accumulation, and promoting sugar transfer from leaves to fruits. This study shows the potential application of AOS in the production of citrus fruits for sugar enhancement.

    Kurzfassung: Elderlies and tinnitus patients often find it challenging to process acoustic signals in noisy environments. The sensitivity to temporal fine structure (TFS), the transient storage capacity for TFS, and the ultra-high frequency (UHF) thresholds are all associated with aging-related damage, evidenced by speech-in-noise perception deficits. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the relationships among TFS sensitivity, transient storage capacity, and UHF thresholds in tinnitus patients and normal adults of different ages. Methods In the present study, 38 tinnitus patients (age ranging from 21 to 65) and 23 non-tinnitus adults (age ranging from 22 to 56) were enrolled, and some of their auditory indicators were examined, including the TFS-adaptive frequency (TFS-AF), break in interaural correlation (BIAC) delay threshold, and UHF thresholds. Results We found no significant difference in TFS-AF thresholds and BIAC delay thresholds between the tinnitus group and normal group, while their relationships with age were more evident in the tinnitus group. Moreover, these two tests were only significantly correlated in the tinnitus group. UHF thresholds were significantly correlated with TFS-AF thresholds only in the tinnitus group, suggesting that the UHF hearing was positively associated with the TFS sensitivity. Conclusion These findings indicated that the influencing factors, such as tinnitus and UHF thresholds, should be fully considered when examining age-related hearing decline, because the combination of tinnitus and poor UHF hearing might play a role in affecting hearing ability, such as TFS sensitivity.

    Kurzfassung: Puerarin has been reported as a potential agent for neuro-inflammatory disorders. However, there have been no reports of using puerarin for the treatment of depression based on Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)–mediated inflammatory injury. In this study, we evaluated the protective effects of puerarin on depression-like rats induced by a high-fat diet (HFD) combined with chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS). The mechanism was screened by lipidomics and molecular docking and confirmed by in vivo tests. Puerarin treatment significantly improved 1% sucrose preference and ameliorated depression-like behavior in the open-field test. The antidepressive effects of puerarin were associated with decreased pro-inflammatory cytokine production, including interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and increased anti-inflammatory cytokine levels (IL-10) in rat hippocampal tissues and plasma. Hematoxylin–eosin (H & amp;E), immunofluorescence staining, and Western blotting results displayed that puerarin alleviated inflammatory injury by suppressing TLR4 expression and by repairing the intestine mucus barrier via enhancing the expression of claudin-1 and occludin. Non-targeted lipidomics analysis showed that the most significantly different metabolites modified by puerarin were phospholipids. Puerarin treatment–altered biomarkers were identified as PC (15:1/20:1), PE (15:1/16:1), and PI (18:2/20:1) in comparison with the HFD/CUMS group. Molecular docking modeling revealed that puerarin could bind with cytosolic phospholipase A2 (cPLA2) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), which play central roles in TLR4-mediated phospholipid metabolism. In vivo , puerarin treatment decreased the enzyme activities of cPLA2 and COX-2, resulting in lower production of prostaglandin E 2 (PGE 2 ) in hippocampal and intestinal tissues. In conclusion, puerarin treatment reverses HFD/CUMS-induced depression-like behavior by inhibiting TLR4-mediated intestine mucus barrier dysfunction and neuro-inflammatory damages via the TLR4/cPLA2/COX-2 pathway.
