Abstract:
Paulo Freire became aware of the need to revolutionise pedagogical practices, defending
a problematising education marked by freedom and dialogue. His contribution is notorious, however, information on whether and how his praxis is reinvented today is still
scarce. In this sense, the study aims to assess the knowledge that Educational Professionals in Portugal have about the figure and work of Paulo Freire and to understand
whether they use his principles in their professional practice. Sixty teachers, of Portuguese nationality, aged between 22 and 60 years, participated. The results indicated
that these professionals know the figure and work of Paulo Freire and the importance of his principles in the history of Education. Most of the subjects consider to have been
influenced by the author, however, most of them do not currently use the principles in their professional practice.
