    Notes: Acid mucopolysaccharides (AMPS) were extracted from porcine gingiva. The concentration of the uronic acid extracted was 0.23% of the ry-defatted issue. The AMPS were fractioned with a Dowex 1-X2 column.The individual AMPS components of the various fractions obtained were determine on the basis of the contents of the hexosamine, unsaturated disaccharides, and chondroitin sulfate isomers. It was suggested from the results that the AMPS of porcine gingiva consisted of large amounts of chondrotin sulfates A and B, moderate amounts of hyaluronic acid and heparan sulfate, and a small amount of chondroitin sulfate C.

    The effect of diphenylhydantoin sodium on acid mucoplysaccharide and collagen contents of cotton pellet granulomas in rats (1979)

    Notes: The effect of diphenylhydantoin sodium (DPH) on acid mucopolysaccharide (AMPS) and collagen contents of granuloma tissue was studied in tats. Granulomas were induced by implanting cotton pellets in the back of rats. DPH in doses of 50 and 150 mg-kg was administered intraperitoneally from the first day after the implantation for 20 consecutive days. DPH at a dose t 150 mg/kg significantly increased the AMPS sontent on days 14 and 21 after the implantation. DPH at dose of 150 mg/kg also significantly increased the collagen contest on days, 3, 7, and 14 after the implantation.
