Wind- und Photovoltaikstrom schwanken in Abhängigkeit vom Wetter. Sogenannte Flexibilitätstechnologien müssen solche Schwankungen ausgleichen. Dafür gibt es zahlreiche Möglichkeiten: von flexibel regelbaren Kraftwerken über Speicher bis hin zum Demand-Side-Management, das den Verbrauch mit dem Angebot in Einklang bringt. Doch welche Kombinationen verbinden Stabilität, Nachhaltigkeit, Kosteneffizienz und gesellschaftliche Akzeptanz? Eine Arbeitsgruppe des Akademienprojekts „Energiesysteme der Zukunft“ (ESYS) hat mithilfe eines eigens entwickelten Modells rund 130 Systemkonstellationen verglichen. Die gemeinsame Stellungnahme von acatech, Leopoldina und Akademienunion fasst die wichtigsten Ergebnisse zusammen und zeigt Gestaltungsoptionen für energiepolitische Fragestellungen auf. Die dazugehörige Analyse beschreibt ausführlich die Flexibilitätstechnologien der Zukunft, die Methodik, die Szenarienauswahl und die Systemzusammenhänge.
