Notes: Abstract Enthalpies of solution in water, ΔH sol o , and of sublimation, ΔH subl o , were determined experimentally for a number of crystalline N-methyl adenines: m6Ade, m 2 6,6 Ade, m9Ade, m 2 6,9 Ade, and m 3 6,6,9 Ade. Derived standard enthalpies of hydration ΔH hydr o , were corrected for the calculated cavity terms ΔH cav o to yield enthalpies of interaction ΔH int o of the solutes with their hydration shells. The increments of ΔH int o per unit area of the water-accessible molecular surface S B , δΔH int o (CH3)/δS B (CH3), for the particular methyl groups: is considered to be the net effect of the gain in the energy resulting from van der Waals' interactions and of the loss in the energy due to polar interactions upon methyl substitution. It proved to vary somewhat numerically in agreement with the theoretically predicted hydration schemes of adenine. Comparison of ΔH int o /S B value for adenine with those previously determined for uracil and thymine indicates that the aminopurine moiety is less hydrated than the diketopyrimidine ring.

Notes: Abstract In this paper we apply Fourier analysis on the two and three dimensional Euclidean motion groups to the solution of a nonlinear convolution equation. First, we review the theory of the irreducible unitary representations of the motion group and discuss the corresponding Fourier transform of functions on the motion group. The main reasons why exact solutions of this convolution equation do not exist in many cases are discussed. Techniques for regularization of the problem and numerical methods for finding approximate solutions are presented. Examples are considered and approximate solutions are found.

Notes: Abstract The impregnation of H5PV2Mo10O40 polyoxometalate onto MCM‐41 and amino‐modified MCM‐41 materials provided mesoporous active catalysts with large surface areas for aerobic hydrocarbon oxidation using isobutyraldehyde as a reducing agent. The results of the oxidation of alkenes and alkanes gave product selectivities similar to those observed in the corresponding homogeneous reaction although catalytic activity was somewhat reduced. Under appropriate experimental conditions there was no leaching and the solid catalyst could be recovered and reused without loss in activity.

Notes: Abstract We construct the quantum versions of the monodromy matrices of KdV theory. The traces of these quantum monodromy matrices, which will be called as “T-operators,” act in highest weight Virasoro modules. TheT-operators depend on the spectral parameter λ and their expansion around λ=∞ generates an infinite set of commuting Hamiltonians of the quantum KdV system. TheT-operators can be viewed as the continuous field theory versions of the commuting transfermatrices of integrable lattice theory. In particular, we show that for the values $$c = 1 - 3\frac{{3(2n + 1)^2 }}{{2n + 3}}$$ ,n=1,2,3 .... of the Virasoro central charge the eigenvalues of theT-operators satisfy a closed system of functional equations sufficient for determining the spectrum. For the ground-state eigenvalue these functional equations are equivalent to those of the massless Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz for the minimal conformal field theoryM 2,2n+3; in general they provide a way to generalize the technique of the Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz to the excited states. We discuss a generalization of our approach to the cases of massive field theories obtained by perturbing these Conformal Field Theories with the operator Φ1,3. The relation of theseT-operators to the boundary states is also briefly described.

Notes: Abstract. The L p minimax risks (1≤p〈∞) are studied for statistical estimation in the Gaussian white noise model. The asymptotic rate and constants are given, and the optimal estimator is proposed. This, together with the work of Golubev, Levit and Tsybakov (1996) establishes the classification of the L p minimax constants on the classes of analytical functions.

Notes: Abstract Apparatus, software and methods were developed for a microbeam analysis of semiconductor structures or devices based on Si and GaAs with secondary ion mass spectrometry. Semiquantitative analysis methods were based on measuring the relative elemental sensitivity factors. As examples of apparatus and methods applications investigations of various semiconductor materials and devices are described.

Notes: Abstract We prove the Central Limit Theorem (CLT) for the number of eigenvalues near the spectrum edge for certain Hermitian ensembles of random matrices. To derive our results, we use a general theorem, essentially due to Costin and Lebowitz, concerning the Gaussian fluctuation of the number of particles in random point fields with determinantal correlation functions. As another corollary of the Costin–Lebowitz Theorem we prove the CLT for the empirical distribution function of the eigenvalues of random matrices from classical compact groups.

Notes: Abstract: In this paper we fill some gaps in the arguments of our previous papers [1,2]. In particular, we give a proof that the L operators of Conformal Field Theory indeed satisfy the defining relations of the Yang–Baxter algebra. Among other results we present a derivation of the functional relations satisfied by T and Q operators and a proof of the basic analyticity assumptions for these operators used in [1,2].

Notes: Abstract The factorizedS-matrix with internal symmetryZ 4 is constructed in two space-time dimensions. The two-particle amplitudes are obtained by means of solving the factorization, unitarity and analyticity equations. The solution of factorization equations can be expressed in terms of elliptic functions. TheS-matrix contains the resonance poles naturally. The simple formal relation between the general factorizedS-matrices and the Baxter-type lattice transfer matrices is found. In the sense of this relation theZ 4-symmetricS-matrix corresponds to the Baxter transfer matrix itself.

Notes: Abstract: This paper is a direct continuation of [1] where we began the study of the integrable structures in Conformal Field Theory. We show here how to construct the operators ${\bf Q}_{\pm}(\lambda)$ which act in the highest weight Virasoro module and commute for different values of the parameter λ. These operators appear to be the CFT analogs of the Q - matrix of Baxter [2], in particular they satisfy Baxter's famous T- Q equation. We also show that under natural assumptions about analytic properties of the operators as the functions of λ the Baxter's relation allows one to derive the nonlinear integral equations of Destri-de Vega (DDV) [3] for the eigenvalues of the Q-operators. We then use the DDV equation to obtain the asymptotic expansions of the Q - operators at large λ; it is remarkable that unlike the expansions of the T operators of [1], the asymptotic series for Q(λ) contains the “dual” nonlocal Integrals of Motion along with the local ones. We also discuss an intriguing relation between the vacuum eigenvalues of the Q - operators and the stationary transport properties in the boundary sine-Gordon model. On this basis we propose a number of new exact results about finite voltage charge transport through the point contact in the quantum Hall system.
