Notes: A systematic approach to exact solutions for the evolution of small density inhomogeneities of a two-component and in special cases for a three-component cosmological medium is presented. In general, there exists just one increasing perturbation mode. Expressing the solutions of the respective differential equations in terms of Meijer's G function [Proc. Nederl. Akad. Wetensch. A 49, 344 (1946)] various exact and asymptotic formulas for the perturbation modes are derived.

Notes: Dynamic hysteresis loops were recorded in the ferroelectric lock-in phase of purified Rb2ZnCl4 crystals at a temperature T=188 K which is 5 K below the incommensurate–commensurate phase transition. The hysteresis loops observed in the frequency range 50 Hz〈f〈5 kHz can quantitatively be described by a model that treats a sideways shift of planar, nearly regular arranged domain walls as the only mechanism of polarization reversal in Rb2ZnCl4. Due to defect interaction, the velocity v of the domain wall depends nonlinearly on the effective force F acting on it and a scaling behavior v∼(F−Fc)θ with θ=1.45 is observed. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: The piezoelectric shear strain S5 of several commercial lead zirconate titanate (PZT) piezoceramics was evaluated under the nonresonant condition in a sinusoidal ac-field E1(t) applied perpendicular to the poling direction. Results obtained on donor doped (soft PZT) and acceptor doped (hard PZT) ceramics are compared. At fields sufficiently below the limiting field Elim necessary to electrically depole the sample, we find a linear, nonhysteretic relationship between S5 and the polarization P1. In soft PZT ceramics, the effective piezoelectric shear coefficient d15=S5/E1 shows a pronounced ac-field dependence which was fitted according to d15(E1)=dlin[1+(dnlE1)α] with α(approximate)1.2. The results indicate that irreversible motion of non-180° walls causes the nonlinearity of PZT and the contribution of 180° walls to the linear and nonlinear coefficients is negligible. The analysis of the relationship between linear and nonlinear coefficients obtained at different ceramic systems suggests that there exists another extrinsic contribution to the permittivity in PZT which may not be attributed to domain wall motion but may be responsible to the dielectric dispersion at microwave frequencies. © 1998 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: For a class of self-interacting multicomponent scalar field theories with a global discrete non-Abelian symmetry group, mixed order–disorder correlation functions are defined in terms of Euclidean functional integrals. These correlation functions satisfy Osterwalder–Schrader positivity. From a representation of the correlation functions in terms of the transfer matrix, the dual algebra at fixed time is derived. This algebra implies parafermion operators showing non-Abelian braid group statistics. In a pure phase of spontaneous symmetry breaking for a related class of order–disorder correlation functions a convergent polymer representation is developed, emerging from a combined low- and high-temperature-type expansion. The infinite volume correlation functions of this class show exponential clustering in the disorder fields.

Notes: Abstract In the (2+1)-dimensional non-compact Abelian lattice Higgs model Euclidean correlation functions of vortices and, after adding the Chern-Simons term to the action, correlation functions of transmuted matter fields (anyons) are set up. These correlation functions satisfy Osterwalder-Schrader positivity. Via the transition to continuous Euclidean time, vortex and anyon operators within a Hamiltonian lattice formulation are obtained, respectively, and their respective dual algebras are displayed.

Notes: Abstract Several of the interesting new relations in elementary particle physics discovered from the hypothesis of SU6 symmetry of strong interactions, are shown to follow from the less restrictive assumption of SU4 symmetry alone. Since isospin invariance is a much more closely obeyed symmetry than SU3, these relations may be the best tests for the validity of combining internal symmetries with spin.

Notes: Abstract Starting from a weak form of the axial current algebra and usingFubini's covariant dispersion method we give a fairly rigorous derivation of the Adler-Weisberger sum rule. Special attention is given to the necessary continuation in the “pion mass”. Combining the sum rule with the forwardπ ± p dispersion relation we obtain a sum rule containing essentially low energy data. A numerical evaluation is given for two sets of existing s-waveπN scattering lengths. The one reproducesAdler's andWeisberger's results, the other improves the agreement with experiment giving rA=1.20.

Notes: Abstract Assuming that the Bardakçi-RueggB 5-function is relevant for the dynamical description of hadronic single particle production processes we construct a model for the π π π $${\cal N}\bar {\cal N}$$ -five-point function. For the invariant functions appearing in a suitably chosen invariant decomposition an ansatz is made in terms ofB 5-functions multiplied by polynomials of the invariant variables which are required by factorization. The Regge trajectories introduced are those of the π, ϱ,P′, ω and $$\mathcal{N}$$ . With this set of trajectories, admitting as small a number of satellite terms as possible, invariant functions are constructed having both the correct crossing and factorization properties at the π, $$\mathcal{N}$$ (and $$\bar {\cal N}$$ ) poles. Further constraints emerge from an investigation of the asymptotic behaviour in the single Regge limits. Only one parameter remains undetermined. As an application of the model consequences for the process $$\pi \mathcal{N} \to \rho \mathcal{N}$$ are studied.
