    Description: For eliminating the limits in the classical models, here we establish a general model for precisely predicting dielectric constant of porous materials. In this model, dielectric constant is independent on pore shapes when the pore size is far smaller than electromagnetic wavelengths; however, it depends on the porosities and correlation between the open pore direction and wave propagation direction. The structure factor β in the effective dielectric formula is 1 and 3 for through-hole and closed-pore materials, respectively. The experimental results are in good agreement with the model, suggesting a favorable tool for predicting dielectric properties of porous materials.

    Description: Considering the effects of isolation and high efficiency, a series-resonant DC-DC converter (L-L-C type, with two inductors and a capacitor) has been introduced into a residential photovoltaic (PV) generation and storage system in this work, and a voltage gain curve upwarp drifting problem was found. In this paper, the reason of upwarp drifting in the voltage gain curve is given, and a new changing topological control method to solve the voltage regulation problem under light load conditions is proposed. Firstly, the ideal and actual first harmonic approximation (FHA) models are given, and this drifting problem is ascribed to the multiple peaks of higher-order resonance between resonant tank and parasitic capacitors. Then the paper presents the pulse-frequency-modulation (PFM) driver signals control method to translate the full-bridge LLC into a half-bridge LLC converter, and with this method the voltage gain could easily be reduced by half. Based on this method, the whole voltage and resonant current sharing control methods in on-line and off-line mode are proposed. The parameters design and optimization methods are also discussed in detail. Finally, a residential PV system platform based on the proposed parallel 7-kW full-bridge LLC converter is built to verify the proposed control method and theoretical analysis.

    Description: Energies, Vol. 11, Pages 622: A Parameterization Approach for the Dielectric Response Model of Oil Paper Insulation Using FDS Measurements Energies doi: 10.3390/en11030622 Authors: Feng Yang Lin Du Lijun Yang Chao Wei Youyuan Wang Liman Ran Peng He To facilitate better interpretation of dielectric response measurements—thereby directing numerical evidence for condition assessments of oil-paper-insulated equipment in high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) transmission systems—a novel approach is presented to estimate the parameters in the extended Debye model (EDM) using wideband frequency domain spectroscopy (FDS). A syncretic algorithm that integrates a genetic algorithm (GA) and the Levenberg-Marquardt (L-M) algorithm is introduced in the present study to parameterize EDM using the FDS measurements of a real-life 126 kV oil-impregnated paper (OIP) bushing under different controlled temperatures. As for the uncertainty of the EDM structure due to variable branch quantity, Akaike’s information criterion (AIC) is employed to determine the model orders. For verification, comparative analysis of FDS reconstruction and results of FDS transformation to polarization–depolarization current (PDC)/return voltage measurement (RVM) are presented. The comparison demonstrates good agreement between the measured and reconstructed spectroscopies of complex capacitance and tan δ over the full tested frequency band (10−4 Hz–103 Hz) with goodness of fit over 0.99. Deviations between the tested and modelled PDC/RVM from FDS are then discussed. Compared with the previous studies to parameterize the model using time domain dielectric responses, the proposed method solves the problematic matching between EDM and FDS especially in a wide frequency band, and therefore assures a basis for quantitative insulation condition assessment of OIP-insulated apparatus in energy systems.

    Description: A central step in the initiation of chromosomal DNA replication in eukaryotes is the assembly of pre-replicative complex (pre-RC) at late M and early G1 phase of the cell cycles. Since 1973, four proteins or protein complexes, including cell division control protein 6 (Cdc6)/Cdc18, minichromosome maintenance protein complex, origin recognition complex (ORC), and Cdt1, are known components of the pre-RC. Previously, we reported that a non-ORC protein binds to the essential element Δ9 of the Schizosaccharomyces pombe DNA-replication origin ARS3001. In this study, we identified that the non-ORC protein is Sap1. Like ORC, Sap1 binds to DNA origins during cell growth cycles. But unlike ORC, which binds to asymmetric AT-rich sequences through its nine AT-hook motifs, Sap1 preferentially binds to a DNA sequence of 5′-(A/T)n(C/G)(A/T)9–10(G/C)(A/T)n-3′ (n ≥ 1). We also found that Sap1 and ORC physically interact. We further demonstrated that Sap1 is required for the assembly of the pre-RC because of its essential role in recruiting Cdc18 to DNA origins. Thus, we conclude that Sap1 is a replication-initiation factor that directly participates in the assembly of the pre-RC. DNA-replication origins in fission yeast are defined by possessing two essential elements with one bound by ORC and the other by Sap1.

Inspired by the latest development in image coding techniques, we present in this paper a new compression framework, which combines the directional adaptive lifting partitioned block transform (DAL-PBT) with content-driven quadtree codec with optimized truncation (CQOT). First, the DAL-PBT model is designed; it calculates the optimal prediction directions of each image block and performs the weighted directional adaptive interpolation during the process of directional lifting. Secondly, the CQOT method is proposed, which provides different scanning orders among and within blocks based on image content, and encodes those blocks with a quadtree codec with optimized truncation. The two phases are closely related: the former is devoted to image representation for preserving more directional information of remote sensing images, and the latter leverages adaptive scanning on the transformed image blocks to further improve coding efficiency. The proposed method supports various progressive transmission modes. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms not only the mainstream compression methods, such as JPEG2000 and CCSDS, but also, in terms of some evaluation indexes, some state-of-the-art compression methods presented recently.
