The northern Shimanto belt exposes three regional faults that cap subduction mélange K‐Ar ages of fault rocks decrease with decreasing 2 M 1 illite polytype component due to a mixture of 1 M d and 2 M 1 illite polytypes Lower intercepts (e.g., 100% authigenic illite) are younger than accretion, indicating out‐of‐sequence faulting within the upper plate
