    Notes: Conclusions 1. Our investigations have revealed the feasibility of using epoxy resins as a cementing material for plastic-concrete, glues, and paints at subzero temperatures; this is of interest for hydraulic engineering structures and the like, constructed in Siberia and the Far North. 2. The structural strength of compounds hardening at −20°C decreases by a factor of 5–10 and the adhesion strength by a factor of 3, with a tendency to display a subsequent increase. 3. The use of solvents greatly reduces the strength, the adhesion strength is less markedly reduced. At −20°C solvents preserve the composition but the cohesive strength is zero, whereas the adhesive strength has a specific value; after 60 days the decrease is not more than double the value observed in the absence of a solvent. 4. A marked increase in the strength of the materialis observed in going from a negative to a positive temperatures; this is of particular importance for the use of epoxy compositions in construction work, including hydraulic engineering structures. 5. The use of triethanolamine and DÉG-1 resin has a very beneficial effect on the increase in compression strength, but a similar effect is not observed in tensile tests. 6. The indices of the degree of polymerization did not display characteristic features accompanying the structural strength of the compounds.

    Description: This work is dedicated to the study of benthic and planktonic foraminifers and is a contribution to the multidisciplinary investigations of Core PS51/154-11 from the Laptev Sea. The paleoecological analysis of foraminiferal assemblages makes it possible to reconstruct in detail environmental changes on the western continental margin of the Laptev Sea during the Late Pleistocene and Holocene. The examined core dated by the AMS radiocarbon method is divided into intervals that reflect main stages in the regional evolution for the last 17.6 k.y.: early deglaciation, Bølling–Allerød warming, Younger Dryas cooling, transition to the Interglacial, Holocene climatic optimum, Middle-Late Holocene. The presence of subpolar planktonic foraminifers and benthic species Cassidulina neoteretis (Tappan) provides grounds to reconstruct for the continental slope area stages of the enhanced activity of subsurface Atlantic-derived water in the intervals of 12.0–14.7 and 0.6–5.4 ka. The benthic assemblage reflects changes in depositional environments related to the postglacial transgression and also climatic change impacts affecting bioproductivity. The events defined on the basis of foraminifers are correlated with climatic oscillations and changes in circulation of water masses.

    Description: The paper deals with original and published data on fossil ostracodal assemblages from the Eurasian Arctic Kara, Laptev and Chuckchi seas. As a whole, six ecologically different assemblages were distinguished (freshwater, brackish water, marine of the inner, middle and outer shelves and upper continental slope), they replace each other upcore reflecting a gradual increase in water depth and distance from the coast. These assemblages are stable in the entire Arctic region and can be used for interpretation of environments in different Arctic areas.

    Description: The ecology and taxonomy of Islandiella norcrossi (Cushman, 1933), a typical representative of the Arctic calcareous benthic foraminifers, are analyzed based on microfossils from the Late Pleistocene-Holocene deposits of the Laptev Sea. This species is distributed on the shelf and continental slope of the Arctic seas, and indicates normal marine conditions with a seasonal ice cover and cold Arctic water masses. The species is also associated with a high seasonal productivity in sea-ice marginal zone. Tests are abundant in the Laptev Sea sediments, and show some variability in the size and shape of chambers, which was possibly caused by harsh environmental conditions of the Arctic (limited period of growth and reproduction); aberrant forms with an additional aperture being also present. The population contains tests of macrospherical and microspherical generations, as well as juveniles.

    Description: Three most common Arctic foraminiferal species of the family Cassidulinidae from the Laptev Sea sediment cores were analyzed for paleoenvironmental reconstructions. This paleontological study is focused on morphological characteristics of apertural elements and the wall structure. The species Cassidulina neoteretis is considered an indicator of the Atlantic influence in contrast to the Arctic species Cassidulina reniforme and Islandiella norcrossi.
