    Abstract: A ROSS-FILTER-PIN spectrometer in the spectral range of 0.28keV —1.56keV was developed to study the soft X-ray radiation emitted from gas-puff Z-pinch plasma. It is composed of five channels covering the energy interval of interest without gaps. Soft X-ray spectral energy cuts were determined by the L absorption edges of selected filter elements (K absorption edges being used for light filter elements), and the optimum thickness of filter material was designed using computer code. To minimize the residual sensitivity outside the sensitivity range of each channel, element of the first filter was added into the second filter of all the Ross pair. To diminish the area of each filter, PIN detector with small sensitive area of 1 mm2 was adopted for the spectrometer. A filter with small area is easy to fabricate and would be helpful to withstand the Z-pinch discharge shock wave. With this ROSS-FILTER-PIN spectrometer, the energy spectra of soft X-ray from a small gas-puff Z-pinch were investigated, and the correlation between the soft X-ray yield and the plasma implosion state was also studied.

    Abstract: The axial backlighting of two-wire Z-pinch using an X-pinch as an X-ray source was conducted on PPG-1, a pulsed power generator with a current of 400 kA in amplitude and 100 ns in pulse width. Its time-resolved axial backlighting images are obtained. In the backlighting images all the physical processes similar to those occurring in the early stage of the wire-array Z-pinch are observed, including the expansion of the high-density wire core surrounded by low-density coronal plasmas, the motion of the coronal plasma toward the axis of the wire-array, and the formation of precursor plasma. The areal mass density of the plasma shown in the backlighting images is calibrated with step-wedge filters. And the time-resolved radial distributions of the areal mass density of the plasma from the two-wire Z-pinch are obtained.

    Abstract: 〈sec〉Compared with traditional communication technologies such as electrical interconnection, optical interconnection technology has the advantages of large bandwidth, low energy consumption, anti-interference, etc. Therefore, optical interconnection is becoming an important approach and development trend of short distance and very short distance data terminal communication. As the chip level optical interconnection is implemented, silicon on insulator (SOI) based on-chip optical interconnection has been widely utilized with the support of a series of multiplexing technologies. In recent decades, many on-chip optical interconnection devices have been developed by using conventional design methods such as coupled-mode, multimode interference, and transmission line theories. However, when used in device design, these conventional methods often face the problems such as complex theoretical calculations and high labor costs. Many of the designed devices also encounter the problems of insufficient compactness and integration, and single function.〈/sec〉〈sec〉Intelligent design method has the advantages such as pellucid principle, high freedom of optimization, and good material compatibility, which can solve the problems of conventional design methods to a large extent. With the widespread use of intelligent design methods in the design of on-chip optical interconnection devices, three main trends have emerged. Firstly, the size of on-chip optical interconnect device is gradually developing towards ultra compact size. Secondly, the number of intelligently designed controllable on-chip optical interconnect devices is increasing. Thirdly, on-chip optical interconnect devices are gradually developing towards integration and systematization. This paper summarizes the most commonly used intelligent design methods of photonic devices, including intelligent algorithms based intelligent design methods and neural networks based intelligent design methods. Then, the above three important research advances and trends of intelligently designed on-chip optical interconnection devices are analyzed in detail. At the same time, the applications of phase change materials in the design of controllable photonic devices are also reviewed. Finally, the future development of intelligently designed on-chip optical interconnection devices is discussed.〈/sec〉

    Abstract: The energy deposition process of electrical wire explosion under vacuum or low gas pressure circumstances is usually terminated prematurely, owing to the flashover along the surfaces of wires. Therefore energy deposited into wires can be far less than the amount needed to fully vaporize them. In this paper, a parallel connection method of wire is introduced in order to improve the energy deposition of the concerned wire before flashover takes place. Wire explosion driven by a current with a rise time of tens of ns and an amplitude of about 1 kA is studied numerically, and the simulation results show that by connecting a wire of a certain size in parallel with both ends of the exploding wire, the voltage rising rate is suppressed and the flashover is delayed; therefore the energy deposited into the concerned wire is increased effectively.

    Abstract: Face-center cubic metal materials including austenite stainless steel, aluminum single crystal and multi-grained pure aluminum were irradiated by a high-current pulsed electron beam (HCPEB) source in different processes. The deformed microstructures were observed by using scanning electron microscopy and transmiss ion electron microscopy. The relationship between stress characteristic and the microstructures has been analyzed. The current numerical simulations of the ther mal-mechanical process of HCPEB treatment were also investigated by comparing w ith the present experimental results. The present experimental results suggest t hat the value of the stress induced by HCPEB lies between 102—103MPa. The behavior of the stress propagation is closely related to the crystal structure of the material. This stress leads to the modification of the properties and the microstructures of the irradiated material in regions of greater depth.

    Abstract: The energy spectra of ion beams emitted from gas-puff Z-pinch plasma was experim entally studied with a compact Thomson spectrometer, which is composed of an inp ut window, deflecting electromagnetic fields,a rear pinhole, and a CR-39 track d etector. Ion beams were collimated by a front pinhole and the input window of Th omson spectrometer and deflected in the electromagnetic fields, and then they pa ssed through the rear pinhole to hit the CR-39 detector. Based on the detected p ictures of parabolas, we have calculated the energy spectra of ion beams and fou nd that the energy spectra move toward the direction of lower energy for a bad Z -pinch shot. A “bad Z-pinch shot" here means a shallower dip on the di/dt signal, which is the time derivative of Z-pinch current.

    Abstract: A fluid model of direct-current (DC) discharge in argon atmosphere between the gaps of rod-plane electrode configuration was established, and the discharge models of two geometrically similar gaps were solved using the finite-element method, respectively. The dimension ratio of the gaps was set as 10:1, and the gas pressure was ~133.3 Pa for the prototype and ~133 Pa for the scale-down gap; to the gaps the same DC voltages were applied. Voltage-current characteristics, as well as the physical discharge parameters (such as electric potential, electric field, electron density, ion density, and electron temperature) were obtained. Relations between parameters of the two gaps were investigated according to the theoretical relations derived by similarity law. Simulation results show that the discharge type in the two similar gaps is verified as a normal glow discharge; the parameter relations are in good agreement with the similarity law, and the working points of discharges are identical in similar gaps with the same applied DC voltage. This study could offer theoretical instruction in extrapolating the discharge properties for similar gaps.

    Abstract: Neutron capture reaction is one of the neutron reactions and plays an important role in using reactor control rods and shell materials, designing nuclear device structures, and studying nuclear astrophysics S processes and element origins. The 4π BaF 〈 sub 〉 2 〈 /sub 〉 detection device has advantages such as high time resolution, low neutron sensitivity, and high detection efficiency, thus making it suitable for measuring neutron radiation capture reaction cross-section data. In order to fill the gap in our neutron capture reaction data in the keV energy range and improve their accuracy, the Key Laboratory of Nuclear Data at the Chinese Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) has established a Gamma Total Absorption Facility (GTAF), which consists of 28 hexagonal BaF 〈 sub 〉 2 〈 /sub 〉 crystals and 12 pentagonal BaF 〈 sub 〉 2 〈 /sub 〉 crystals to form a spherical shell with an external diameter of 25 cm and an internal diameter of 10 cm, covering 95.2% of the solid angles. The Back-n beam line of the Chinese Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) is a back-streaming white beam line that covers neutron energy ranging from a few eV to several hundred MeV, making it suitable for measuring neutron capture cross-sections. The reaction cross-section data of 〈 sup 〉 197 〈 /sup 〉 Au is measured by using GTAF on the Back-n beam line. The measurement data are preliminarily background deducted through energy screening, PSD method, and crystal multiplicity screening. Subsequently, the background is analyzed and deducted based on the measurement data of 〈 sup 〉 nat 〈 /sup 〉 C and empty samples, and the yield of 〈 sup 〉 197 〈 /sup 〉 Au capture reaction is obtained. Resonance parameters are a set of parameters extracted from experimental data to describe the resonance curve, which can eliminate the influence of experimental conditions on resonance data and are more important than the cross-section obtained from experiments. The resonance energy, neutron resonance width, and gamma resonance width parameters of 〈 sup 〉 197 〈 /sup 〉 Au at 1–100 eV are fitted by using the SAMMY program. From the comparison between the resonance curves obtained from experimental measurements and the resonance parameters obtained from fitting with the ENDF/B-VIII.0 database, it can follow that the experimental measurement results are in good agreement with the database, nevertheless, there exist some differences in the resonance parameter, which may be due to the GTAF energy resolution, Back-n neutron spectrum measurement accuracy, and the experimental background deduction method. Our next work is to identify the sources of difference.

    Abstract: Kerr effect is defined as an electro-optical physical phenomenon, in which the testing laser can change its polarization state as passing through a Kerr medium stressed by applied field. In this work, an on-line measurement system based on Kerr effect is established to investigate the surface electric field of insulator stressed by nanosecond HV pulse in vacuum which include a HV pulse source, YAG laser, synchronous controlling apparatus, Kerr cell & insulator sample, optical phase shift detecting subsystem. According to comparison experiments, the distortion of insulator surface electric field caused by surface charging is observed. And a time-resolution measurement on this field distortion is also performed.
