Abstract: The effects of nanosized ZnO on the microstructure, the free volume and the ionic conductivity of poly ethylene oxide (PEO) nanocomposite electrolytes (PEO)8-ZnO-LiClO4 are systematically studied by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS), respectively. The experimental results show that the presence of the nanosized ZnO brings about a reduction in the crystallinity of the PEO phase and a very marked increase in ionic conductivity. PALS discrete analysis shows that the free volume size, the free volume concentration and the relative free volume fraction significantly increase with the increase of nano-ZnO. Specially, it is the first time to observe the occurrence of peaks of the free volume distribution split after nano-ZnO has been filled, which indicates that the ZnO added into (PEO)8-LiClO4 has an important effect on the microstructure for nanocomposites due to the interaction between the nano-ZnO and matrix. A direct correlation between the free volume fraction and the ionic conductivity is observed, and the ionic conductivity mechanism is discussed.

Abstract: Bulk titanium borides (TiB2) have been successfully synthesized from the stoichiometric boron and titanium powders at high pressure and high temperature (HPHT). The density of TiB2 is higher than 99%. The Vicker's hardness of TiB2 as synthesized is 39.6 GPa which is near to result of the supehard materials. While TiB2 show good metallic characters with the resistivity, 10-8 Ωm, which is near to the value of the single crystal of TiB2. The enhanced properties of TiB2 as synthesized may be attributed to the higher density and uniform crystal size.

Abstract: Two different solvothermal synthesis routines are used to fabricate CdS nanocrystals with different morphologies and sizes. Anhydrous ethylenediamine (en) is chosen as solvent, CdCl2. 2.5H2O and thiourea (H2NCSH2N) as the cadmium source and sulfur source respectively in the first method. CdS Nanocrystals are prepared at different reaction temperatures (160 ℃-220 ℃) and the influence of the reaction temperature on the growth of CdS nanocrystals is discussed. In the other routine, anhydrous ethylenediamine (en) is also chosen as solvent. The synthesized products at 160 ℃ are recrystallized under 200 ℃ for 2-8 h. The influence of the recrystallisation time on the growth of CdS Nanocrystal is discussed. The in-situ analysis of effect of the growth time on the growth of CdS nanocrystals is performed. The phase, morphology and crystallographic structure of CdS nanocrystals are investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) respectively. The results show that both products exhibit pure hexagonal structures, the morphology of the product is nanoparticles at the temperatures below 160 ℃, when the temperature is rasied to higher than 160 ℃, the products are CdS nanorods. Meanwhile, the morphologies of the recrystallisation products under 200 ℃ for different times are found to convert from nanoparticles into nanorods gradually. The nanorods are composed of zero-dimensional particles through self-assembly process which could be demonstrated by field emission scanning electron microscopy (HRTEM) analysis. Finally, the factors that influence the morphology changes of CdS nanocrystals and the mechanism of the growth of nanorods are discussed.

Abstract: Liquid gallium and its alloy with low melting point, low toxic and high electrical conductivity are used extensively in burgeoning microfluidic and flexible electronic devices. The key to producing these devices is to effectively control the wettability and morphology of liquid metal on the solid interface in different manufacturing processes. Based on the Lennard-Jones (L-J) potential describing the solid-liquid interaction, the wettabilities of liquid gallium film on the smooth and rough graphene surfaces are effectively investigated by molecular dynamics simulation which is an available and powerful option in this field. Different regimes of wetting are discovered by changing the depth of the L-J potential, and the stable contact angle increases with Ga-C potential depth decreases. The results show that the equilibrium contact angle and the retraction velocity increase with the decrease of the L-J potential between the gallium and graphene, showing that some properties change from complete wetting to hydrophilic and to hydrophobic. The L-J potential depth obtained from the simulation results can be effectively employed to describe the interaction between the liquid gallium and the substrate because the resulting wetting angle is extremely close to the experimental value. When employing the most appropriate L-J potential, it is found that although the initial retraction velocity increases with the proportional decrease of the thickness of the liquid Ga film, there are a few of differences in equilibrium contact angle and final retraction velocity in virtue of the competition between the surface tension of the Ga film and Ga-C interaction. It means that for the wetting state the film thickness is not the crux for changing the equilibrium contact angle and retraction velocity based on a similar conversion of potential energy into kinetic energy. Finally, we investigate the effects of the L-J potential on three rough surfaces which are patterned into three types of nanopillars with different top morphologies respectively. Specifically, it is shown that in spite of similar surface roughness, the wetting morphologies of liquid gallium deposited on various nano-textured graphene surfaces range from hydrophobic to dewetting state, suggesting that not only the roughness but also the morphology of surface can exert an available influence on the wettability of liquid. The wetting transition between the wetting and dewetting state can be achieved dynamically by adjusting the morphologies of nanopillars involved although we still need to go into more detail on the configurable way to fulfill the changing requirements.

Abstract: A flat band with nearly zero dispersion can be created by twisting the relative orientation of van der Waals materials, leading to a series of strongly correlated states, such as unconventional superconductivity, correlated insulating state, and orbital magnetism. The bandwidth and topological property of electronic band structure in a twisted double bilayer graphene are tunable by an external displacement field. This system can be an excellent quantum simulator to study the interplay between topological phase transition and strong electron correlation. Theoretical calculation shows that the 〈inline-formula〉〈tex-math id="M4"〉\begin{document}$ {C}_{2x} $\end{document}〈/tex-math〉〈alternatives〉〈graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="14-20230497_M4.jpg"/〉〈graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="14-20230497_M4.png"/〉〈/alternatives〉〈/inline-formula〉 symmetry in twisted double bilayer graphene (TDBG) can be broken by an electric displacement field, leading the lowest conduction and valence band near charge neutrality to obtain a finite Chern number. The topological properties of the band and the symmetry breaking driven by the strong interaction make it possible to realize and regulate the old insulation state at low magnetic fields. Hence Chern insulator may emerge from this topological non-trivial flat band under strong electron interaction. Here, we observe Chern insulator state with Chern number 4 at filling factor 〈inline-formula〉〈tex-math id="M5"〉\begin{document}$ \nu =1 $\end{document}〈/tex-math〉〈alternatives〉〈graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="14-20230497_M5.jpg"/〉〈graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="14-20230497_M5.png"/〉〈/alternatives〉〈/inline-formula〉 under a small magnetic field on twisted double bilayer graphene with twist angle 1.48°. Moreover, the longitudinal resistance shows a peak under a parallel magnetic field and increases with temperature or field rising, which is similar to the Pomeranchuk effect in 〈sup〉3〈/sup〉He. This phenomenon indicates that Chern insulator at 〈inline-formula〉〈tex-math id="M6"〉\begin{document}$ \nu =1 $\end{document}〈/tex-math〉〈alternatives〉〈graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="14-20230497_M6.jpg"/〉〈graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="14-20230497_M6.png"/〉〈/alternatives〉〈/inline-formula〉 may originate from isospin polarization.

Abstract: Hermite-Gaussian (HG) beams have many important applications in the optical frontier, and the limited output power of the high-purity HG beams is partly due to the small gain volume of the mode. The commonly used off-axis end-pumped scheme offers a narrow gain volume whose diameter is about a hundred microns. In this paper,a new method for generation of HG beams based on a slab resonator that has a large mode volume is proposed and experimentally demonstrated.According to the optical resonator theory, the intra-cavity modes in thickness and width direction of the slab resonator are restricted by inserting two size-adjustable apertures, respectively. The one-dimensional HG beam generation is mainly guaranteed by the size of the aperture along the thickness direction of the slab, which matches the diameter of the fundamental mode. The different order one-dimensional HG beams are obtained by refined intra-cavity mode modulation.Since the higher-order modes are less sensitive to the misalignment of the cavity mirror than the lower-order modes, the manipulation of the modes-loss at different orders is achieved by combining the tilt control of the coupled output mirror and the size control of intra-cavity apertures.Through the adjustment of the optical gain and loss in the resonator, the single mode wins out in the laser modes competition.Consequently,high-purity one-dimensional HG beams with orders 0 to 9(HG〈sub〉00〈/sub〉 to HG〈sub〉09〈/sub〉) are generated. The pump module is comprised of a two-dimensional laser diode array which offers face-pumping to the large surface of the slab, therefore the width of the mode volume is extended to several millimeters.By further incorporating the 100mm-level length slab, the total gain volume is much larger than the off-axis pumping scheme. In this paper, the output power of the highest order HG〈sub〉09〈/sub〉 mode is up to 244 mW.Due to the large gain volume and uniform gain distribution brought by the face-pumped slab, the purity of high order HG modes is quite good. The correlation coefficient ρ between the measured intensity distribution and the theoretical value is larger than 0.95.The beam quality factor ρ is also in good agreement with the theory. Finally,a conversion from Hermite-Gaussian beams to the donut-shaped Laguerre-Gaussian beams is realized by using an astigmatic mode converter.Hopefully, power scaling of the HG beam output is also expected by employing cascaded slab amplifiers, and the approach in this paper provides a novel solution for generation of high power HG beams.

Abstract: We measured the cross-section ratios of helium induced by Cq+ and Oq+ (q=1—4) produced by the 2×1.7 MV tandem accelerator of Lanzhou University in the energy range from 20 to 500 keV. We obtained the two-dimensional spectrum by employing coincidence method combined with the MPA-3 data acquisition system. Thus, we obtained the ratios of direct ionization, projectile capture electrons and projectile loss electrons to the total cross-section which are denoted by of Rdirect, Rcapture and Rloss in this paper. A qualitative explanation of the competitive relation of the three reaction-channels and the emperical laws of the three reaction channels are separately presented.

In this work, a new method of generating the HG beams based on a slab resonator that has a large mode volume is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. According to the optical resonator theory, the intra-cavity modes in thickness and width direction of the slab resonator are restricted by inserting two size-adjustable apertures, respectively. The one-dimensional HG beam generation is mainly guaranteed by the size of the aperture along the thickness direction of the slab, which matches the diameter of the fundamental mode. The different order one-dimensional HG beams are obtained by refined intra-cavity mode modulation. Since the higher-order modes are less sensitive to the misalignment of the cavity mirror than the lower-order modes, and the manipulation of the modes-loss at different orders is achieved by combining the tilt control of the coupled output mirror and the size control of intra-cavity apertures. By adjusting the optical gain and loss in the resonant cavity, the single mode wins the competition of laser modes. Therefore, high-purity one-dimensional HG beams with 0 to 9 orders (HG〈sub〉00〈/sub〉 to HG〈sub〉09〈/sub〉) are generated. The pump module is comprised of a two-dimensional laser diode array which offers face-pumping to the large surface of the slab, therefore the width of the mode volume is extended to several millimeters. By further incorporating the 100mm-level long slab, the total gain volume is much larger than the counterpart in the off-axis pumping scheme. In this work, the output power of the highest order HG〈sub〉09〈/sub〉 mode increases up to 244 mW. Owing to the large gain volume and uniform gain distribution caused by the face-pumped slab, the purity of high order HG modes is quite good. The correlation coefficient 〈inline-formula〉〈tex-math id="M3"〉\begin{document}$ \rho $\end{document}〈/tex-math〉〈alternatives〉〈graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="1-20221422_M3.jpg"/〉〈graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="1-20221422_M3.png"/〉〈/alternatives〉〈/inline-formula〉 between the measured intensity distribution and the theoretical value is larger than 0.95. Abstract: The transmission of 60 keV O+ ions through Al2O3 nanocapillaries at a series of different tilt angles is measured. The capillaries with diameters of 50 nm and 30 nm respectively and 10 μm in length are used. The angular distribution and the transmission yields of transported ions are investigated. Our results indicate both the existence of guiding effect when ions pass through the capillary and a significant dependence on the tilt angle. The results also show that the transmission yield increases as the diameter of capillary decreases, and the theoretical model used in our work explains it well.

Abstract: The characteristics of proton beams generated from ultra-intense laser-foil interactions under varied focal offsets are experimentally studied on XL-Ⅱ laser facility. The experimental results show that when strong femtosecond prepulses are presented before the main pulse, the conversion efficiency from the laser energy to the protons is enhanced by 3 orders of magnitude with effective improvement of the beam collimation by properly defocusing the laser pulses. The depression of the prepulse effect on the proton acceleration is believed to be one of the main reasons for the significant optimization. Besides, the particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation results indicate that the population of moderate energy electrons increases under large focal offsets, which in turn effectively improves the acceleration electric field and the beam quality.
