Abstract: Extended interaction klystron is a very important millimeter-wave and sub-millimeter-wave vacuum electron device with many actual and potential applications, such as space-borne cloud profiling radar, communication, imaging system, precision guided missiles, etc. Kinematical theory and space charge wave theory are extensively used to analyze the bunching process of electrons. Kinematical theory is precise when electron beam is especially small because the influence of space charge effect is ignored, while space charge wave theory is accurate when the modulation of electron beam is small since it is based on the premise of small amplitude. Based on kinematical theory, law of induce current, principle of charge conservation in a one-dimensioanl mode and small signal condition, the influence of electron beam on standing wave electric field in multiple-gap cavity is analyzed, and the expression of beam-loading conductance and beam-loading susceptance in multiple-gap cavity are derived. The influence of the direct current transmit angle of single gap, the number of multiple gaps and the direct current transmit angle of between center of adjacent gaps on beam-loading conductance and beam-loading susceptance are analyzed. The results show that the beam-loading conductance and beam-loading susceptance of multiple-gap cavity can change to a bigger extent when the number of cavity gaps is bigger, which means that the maximum beam-wave conversion efficiency and the range of loaded frequency increase with the number of cavity gaps increasing. The results also show that the direct current transmit angle between centers of adjacent gaps is the most important parameter for the beam-wave interaction effect. Based on the above analysis, a G-band extended interaction klystron amplifier consisting of three five-gap cavities is designed by an three-dimensional PIC code. An output power of 225.5 W at 217.94 GHz with an efficiency of 6.26%, whose gain and 3 dB bandwidth are 30.5 dB and 470 MHz respectively, is obtained by simulation. This study is of great significance for the physical design and process in engineering the G-band extended interaction klystron amplifier.

Abstract: Beam loading is an important parameter in extended interaction klystron, which can be used to analyze the influence of beam on resonant frequency and ohm loss 〈i〉Q〈/i〉, and study the match condition between input cavity and external power source, etc. Based on the kinematical theory, law of induce current, principle of charge conservation under the small signal condition, and one-dimensional (1D) mode, the transit time effect of electron in 〈inline-formula〉〈tex-math id="M1"〉\begin{document}${\text{π}}$\end{document}〈/tex-math〉〈alternatives〉〈graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="8-20182194_M1.jpg"/〉〈graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="8-20182194_M1.png"/〉〈/alternatives〉〈/inline-formula〉 mode standing wave electric treld in a multiple-gap resonator is analyzed, and the expressions of electron load conductance and electron load susceptance in the multiple-gap resonator are presented. The results show that the electron load conductance of extended interaction cavity can change in a bigger extension than that of traditional single gap cavity, which means that the loaded 〈i〉Q〈/i〉 of extended interaction cavity can be adjusted in a bigger extension to realize a desired 〈i〉Q〈/i〉. And the results also show that the electron load susceptance of extended interaction cavity can change in a bigger extension than that of traditional single gap cavity, which means that the loaded frequency of extended interaction cavity can also be easily adjusted to a desired value. The influence of gap number on the power exchange between beam and microwave is also investigated, which shows that the maximum power exchange between beam and microwave electric field increases with the number of resonator gaps increasing, and so does the efficiency of klystron. A W band extended interaction klystron amplifoer is designed by the above theory analysis and three-dimensional (3D) PIC code. The simulation results show that when beam voltage is 20.8 kV, current is 0.28 A, input power is 30 mW at a frequency of 94.77 GHz, the extended interaction klystron can produce 443 W output power. The responding electron efficiency is 7.6%, the gain is 41.7 dB, and the 3 dB bandwidth exceeds 150 MHz. The extended interaction klystron is machined and tested, and the experimental results show that the maximum output power of 175 W is obtained with a beam of 300 mA, a voltage of 20.8 kV, and an input microwave power of 30 mW at a frequency of 95.37 GHz in a magnetic field of 0.62 T. The responding electron efficiency is 2.8%, the gain is 34.6 dB, the 3-dB bandwidth exceeds 90 MHz. This study is meaningful for designing and developing greater power extended interaction klystrons.

Abstract: The sheet beam extended interaction klystron is an important kind of millimeter-wave and sub-millimeter-wave vacuum electron device, which has extensive applications such as in high resolution radar, imaging system, satellite communication and precision guided missiles. Compared with conventional pencil beam klystron, the sheet beam extended interaction klystron, in which a thin rectangular sheet beam is used, can generate higher power by obtaining higher current and reducing space-charge-effect of electron beam. Electron flow oscillatory theory is a compromise between kinematical theory and space charge wave theory, which adapts to the bigger modulation of electron beam than space charge wave theory, while it is inaccurate in the case of big bunching parameter. Based on electron flow oscillatory theory under the small signal condition, the influence of electron beam on standing wave electric field of 2π mode in a three-gap cavity is analyzed, and the expressions of beam loading conductance and beam loading susceptance in a three-gap cavity are obtained. The influences of plasma frequency, transit angle of single gap and transit angle of drift on the interaction of beam and wave in a three-gap cavity are discussed. The results show that space-charge-effect of beam is unbeneficial to the interaction between beam and wave, otherwise beam loading conductance and beam loading susceptance fluctuate with the increasing of transit angle of single gap and transit angle of drift. A W-band sheet beam extended interaction klystron is designed by theoretical analysis and 3D PIC software. The output power of 5773 W at 94.47 GHz is obtained with an efficiency of 8.46%, a gain of 37.6 dB and a 3 dB bandwith of about 140 MHz, when beam voltage is 19.5 kV, current is 3.5 A and focus magnetic field is 0.85 T. This research is important for the engineering of the W-band sheet beam extended interaction klystron amplifier.

Abstract: Strong-field photoelectron holography encodes detailed temporal and spatial information about both theelectron and ion dynamics. Here, we review a series of numerical studies of strong-field photoelectron holographyin atoms and molecules by a generalized quantum-trajectory Monte Carlo method. By comparingthe generalized quantum-trajectory Monte Carlo simulationwiththe numerical solution of thetime-dependent Schrdinger equation, we demonstrate that, in the nonadiabatic tunneling regime, pronounced nonadiabatic effects occur which manifest in the energy cutoff of the holographic interference structure. Moreover, we found that a profound ring-like pattern can be observed in the deep tunneling ionization regime. Theappearance of the ring-like interference pattern masks the holographic interference structure. In contrast to the tunneling regime, the long-range Coulomb potential is found to play an essential role in the formation of the photoelectron holography in the nonadiabatic tunneling regime.

Abstract: The ferroelastic domain walls in NdP5O14 crystals have been studied by means of X-ray fopography. It has been found that the ferroelastic domain walls appear to be black or white contrast in X-ray fopograph in the range of μt=0.6—7. The feature of the diffraction contrast of the ferroelastic domain walls is summarized as follows: (C2 - C1 = )△C//g contrast of the ferroelastic domain wall is strong △C⊥g contrast of the ferroelastic domain wall is invisible △C·g 〉 0 contrast of the ferroelastic domain wall appears to be black △C·g 〈 0 contrast of the ferroelastic domain wall appears to be white The diffraction contrast of the ferroelastic domain wall has been explained qualitatively by Penning-Polder's theory. According to the feature of the diffraction contrast, the structural characteristics of the ferroelastic domain wall has been discussed.

Abstract: Stimulated Brillouin scattering(SBS) is one of important nonlinear optical phenomena, which is widely used in the areas of phase conjugation, pulse compression and beam combination. In this paper, a single axial and single transverse mode Q switched laser system is used as pump source and SBS is investigated experimentally in small bulk fused silica. Damage free operation is observed with SBS reflectivity up to 60%. The self-Stokes-seeding effect, which has been reported elsewhere, is verified. To improve reflected energy and SBS efficiency, two SBS samples connected in series is configured, but the SBS reflectivity cannot exceed 60% due to surface damage.

Abstract: A Logistic-Unified hybrid chaotic system is generated. In this system, following the random changing of the state variable values of the Logistic map, the parameter values of the Unified system can be modulated randomly, and the Logistic-Unified hybrid chaotic system can be switched between the generalized Lorenz system, Lü system and generalized Chen system randomly. The extremely complicated chaotic signal is generated via the Logistic-Unified hybrid chaotic system. The Logistic-Unified hybrid chaotic system is realized based on digital signal processing (DSP). Hardware experiments and software simulation are completely consistent, and the results demonstrate the validily of the theoretical analysis.

Abstract: An approximate analytical expression of the stress birefringence for Panda polarization-maintaining fiber (Panda-PMF) was deduced by using elasticity theory and complex function method. Based on this expression, the birefringence properties of this fiber were analyzed numerically by using the finite-element method. The results show that the birefringence expressed by core average stress mode is more accurate than that expressed by the core center stress mode and the error of the former is less than 0.18% compared with that of the analytic method. Further more, the birefringence degradation of the Panda-PMF induced by stress area mismatch was analyzed and proved by the related experiment.

Abstract: For the laser diode pumped Cr,Nd∶YAG passively Q-switched Nd:YVO4 laser, in order to improve the stability of the Q-switched pulses, a long cavity is adopted, and the gain medium is located at the middle of the cavity. In the experiments, stable pulses are obtained. At the maximum incident pump power of 17.5W, the repetition rate increases to 71.3 kHz and the pulse width (FWHM) is narrowed to 0.4μs. The pulse-to-pulse amplitude fluctuation is less than ±10%. The inter-pulse timing jitter of the Q-switched pulse train is found to be less than ±3.5%.
