Abstract: In the present paper, we describe a calibration system for OH radicals based on differential optical absorption spectroscopy (DOAS). In the system OH radicals can be produced by photolysis of H2O which is irradiated by the 185 nm light in a cavity. The produced OH radicals with a certain concentration can be detected exactly. The system consists of a xenon lamp as light source in which the light has been collimated, a 1.25 m multiple-reflection cell in which the light can reflect 60 times to achieve 75.0 m whole path-length, and a double pass high resolution echelle spectrometer that is suitable for the measurement of OH radicals (best resolution: 3.3 pm). Utilizing the system the measurement spectra and lamp spectra can be obtained for OH concentration retrieval. OH concentration can be calculated by DOAS retrieval and during the DOAS retrieval the reference absorption cross section is obtained by applying the Voigt broadening method to the absorption lines. By changing water vapor concentration, the system accurately detects OH concentration ranging from 5×108 molecules/cm3 to 1.8×1010 molecules/cm3. In the concentration range, OH concentration fluctuation is very small. For example, when the volume ratio between water vapor and pure N2 reaches 0.3 L:24.7 L, the fluctuation is just ± 4%. Taking into account the effects of absorption cross section, gas pressure in the cavity and other factors, the total systematic error of the instrument is less than 7.3%. According to the results in the paper, the system can be used for the fluorescence assay by gas expansion technology calibration in field experiments.

Abstract: Neutron capture reaction is one of the neutron reactions and plays an important role in using reactor control rods and shell materials, designing nuclear device structures, and studying nuclear astrophysics S processes and element origins. The 4π BaF 〈 sub 〉 2 〈 /sub 〉 detection device has advantages such as high time resolution, low neutron sensitivity, and high detection efficiency, thus making it suitable for measuring neutron radiation capture reaction cross-section data. In order to fill the gap in our neutron capture reaction data in the keV energy range and improve their accuracy, the Key Laboratory of Nuclear Data at the Chinese Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) has established a Gamma Total Absorption Facility (GTAF), which consists of 28 hexagonal BaF 〈 sub 〉 2 〈 /sub 〉 crystals and 12 pentagonal BaF 〈 sub 〉 2 〈 /sub 〉 crystals to form a spherical shell with an external diameter of 25 cm and an internal diameter of 10 cm, covering 95.2% of the solid angles. The Back-n beam line of the Chinese Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) is a back-streaming white beam line that covers neutron energy ranging from a few eV to several hundred MeV, making it suitable for measuring neutron capture cross-sections. The reaction cross-section data of 〈 sup 〉 197 〈 /sup 〉 Au is measured by using GTAF on the Back-n beam line. The measurement data are preliminarily background deducted through energy screening, PSD method, and crystal multiplicity screening. Subsequently, the background is analyzed and deducted based on the measurement data of 〈 sup 〉 nat 〈 /sup 〉 C and empty samples, and the yield of 〈 sup 〉 197 〈 /sup 〉 Au capture reaction is obtained. Resonance parameters are a set of parameters extracted from experimental data to describe the resonance curve, which can eliminate the influence of experimental conditions on resonance data and are more important than the cross-section obtained from experiments. The resonance energy, neutron resonance width, and gamma resonance width parameters of 〈 sup 〉 197 〈 /sup 〉 Au at 1–100 eV are fitted by using the SAMMY program. From the comparison between the resonance curves obtained from experimental measurements and the resonance parameters obtained from fitting with the ENDF/B-VIII.0 database, it can follow that the experimental measurement results are in good agreement with the database, nevertheless, there exist some differences in the resonance parameter, which may be due to the GTAF energy resolution, Back-n neutron spectrum measurement accuracy, and the experimental background deduction method. Our next work is to identify the sources of difference.

Abstract: The data of neutron capture cross section are very important for the research of nuclear astrophysics, advanced nuclear energy development. Owing to the limitation of neutron source and detector, the experimental data of neutron capture cross section in an energy range of 1 eV–10 keV were almost blank in China. The first Chinese gamma-ray total absorption facility has been constructed in the key laboratory of nuclear data at China institute of atomic energy, which consists of 40 BaF〈sub〉2〈/sub〉 detector units. The BaF〈sub〉2〈/sub〉 crystal shell with a thickness of 15 cm and an inner radius of 10 cm covers 95.2% of the solid angle. On-line measurement method of neutron capture reaction cross section is established on the back-streaming white neutron source of China spallation neutron source by using the upgraded facility. The cross section of 〈sup〉197〈/sup〉Au neutron capture reaction is measured for the first time under the experimental condition of irregular 30 mm neutron beam spot. The measured position of resonance peak is well consistent with the relevant data of ENDF evaluation database, which verifies the reliability of the measurement device and measurement technology, and thus laying the foundation for the acquisition of high precision cross section in future.

Abstract: This paper deals with the retrieving of the bidirectional reflectance distribution functions (BRDFs) of the distinct urban cover in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region employing the high-spatial-resolution multi-angle polarized measurements made by the directional polarimetric camera (DPC). The results show that three BRDF models (RPV, Ross-Roujean and Ross-Li) describe the DPC measurements well. Forest is best fitted by Ross-Li and bare soil is best fitted by Ross-Roujean. Urban and shrub are best fitted by RPV. The results demonstrate that the reflectances of different types of surfaces are different and increase with the increase of scattering angle. The basic theory of investigating surface properties using multi-angle measurements is proposed.

Abstract: In order to demonstrate the characteristics of chalcogenide glass Er3+-doped microstructured optical fiber (MOF) amplifying the mid-infrared band signal, Er3+-doped Ga5Ge20Sb10S65 chalcogenide glass is prepared with high temperature melt-quenching method. The absorption spectrum and 2.7 m band fluorescence spectrum of glass sample are measured, and the spectroscopic parameters such as radiative transition probability, radiative lifetime and 2.7 m band stimulated emission cross-section of Er3+ ion are calculated and analyzed according to the Judd-Ofelt and Futchbauer-Ladenburg theories. The 2.7 m band mid-infrared signal amplifying model of Ga5Ge20Sb10S65 chalcogenide glass Er3+-doped MOF under the excitation of 980 nm is presented, and the amplifying characteristics of 2.7 m-band mid-infrared signals for chalcogenide glass Er3+-doped MOF are investigated theoretically. The results show that the chalcogenide glass Er3+-doped MOF exhibits a higher signal gain and very broad gain spectrum: its maximal gain of small signal exceeds 40 dB and amplifying bandwidth of higher than 30 dB gain reaches about 120 nm (26962816 nm) for a 100 cm long chalcogenide glass erbium-doped MOF with a pump power of 200 mW. The theoretical studies indicate that the Ga5Ge20Sb10S65 chalcogenide glass Er3+-doped MOF is an excellent gain medium which can be applied to broadband amplifiers in the mid-infrared wavelength region.

Abstract: In order to make a good use of Chinese polarized satellite sensor, the directional polarized camera (DPC) has been developed and tested in the flight experiments. DPC camera is designed to observe the polarized and directional reflected radiation of the earth-atmosphere system. Retrieval of physical parameters from DPC data depends on the accuracy of calibration. The polarized camera radiative calibration includes two aspects: intensity and polarization. Based on the predecessors' work, we explore the polarization calibration principles and methods. Using the DPC aerial remote sensing experiment data, we have realized the polarization calibration and analyzed the results. This work may contribute to fundamental basis for the data processing and in-flight calibration of the future Chinese polarized satellite sensor.

Abstract: Development of high-peak power laser system encounters difficulties in producing the pulses with high temporal contrast. To increase the pulse temporal contrast ratio, a nonlinear filter based on crossed-polarized wave (XPW) generation is proposed. The XPW generation relies on a third-order nonlinear process occurring in a nonlinear medium, such as barium fluorite (BaF2) crystal. The XPW process is quite straightforward:a linearly polarized laser pulse is focused on BaF2 crystal positioned between two orthogonally polarizers, high power main pulses due to nonlinear polarization rotation can pass through the second polarizer, while low power unconverted pre-and post-pulses are filtered by the second polarizer. With the XPW technique, pulse contrast can be enhanced by several orders of magnitude. Furthermore, XPW spectrum can be broaden by a factor with respect to the initial spectrum. This efficient pulse cleaner presents many advantages and has proved to be a simple and reliable pulse filter operating in a double chirped pulse amplification system. Most of previous XPW experiments utilize short focal systems or work off focus due to an intensity limit in the crystal (BaF2). These drawbacks result in a lower conversion efficiency (lower than 10%) when using a single crystal. Dual crystal setup is capable of achieving efficiency more than 20%, yet the configuration restricts the crystal separation to a millimeter level. The use of long focus lens in the XPW device is capable of reaching higher efficiency, with BaF2 crystal positioned in the focal plane. Hence for milljoule pulses, the setup distance increases to tens of meters, resulting in a complicated system and cumbersome configuration. Considering these limitations, a compact, highly efficient and stable XPW generation using dual-lens system suitable for non-vacuum transmission is presented. The measured nonlinear accumulated phase shows little deterioration of pulse quality. With a compact dual lens system, we realize an excellent XPW conversion of above 22% (internal efficiency of 30%) with using double BaF2 crystals, while a femtosecond laser pulse can experience a spectrum broadening up to a factor of 1.78. The dual-lens configuration overcomes the crystal separation limit, and conversion efficiency exceeds 20% for a crystal separation from 13 cm to 22 cm, which is conducible to flexibility and robustness. The stability for the setup to generate shorter pulses with very high contrast or compensate for spectral gain narrowing in the preamplifier is ensured due to the dual-lens focusing system.

Abstract: Ghost imaging, also known as correlation imaging, is one of the research hotspots in the imaging field. Various ghost imaging systems with different basic principles and implementation architectures have emerged, but the correlation between them is weak, showing a diversified trend and recent research progress is slower than before. Studying the essence of ghost imaging theory is a feasible direction to explore the unknown field of ghost imaging. Through research, we find that Fourier ghost imaging and sinusoidal ghost imaging are based on the same type of orthogonal sine speckle and cosine speckle, which have a very high similarity. At the same time, sinusoidal ghost imaging method can give a complete spatial description and spatial imaging process, so we guess that these two imaging methods can reveal the relationship between spatial imaging and Fourier domain imaging. On this basis, it is proved that Fourier ghost imaging and sinusoidal ghost imaging are equivalent in principle. The former can be realized by n-step phase shift, while the latter can be equivalent to two-step phase shift. Considering that both of these methods use sine and cosine fringes as structural speckles. By combining the spatial decomposition characteristics of sine speckle imaging, the relationship between structural speckle imaging and traditional ghost imaging is analyzed, and the principles of some methods constructed on the basis of these two methods are explained. The simulation results applied to edge detection show that the combination of the two methods can simultaneously obtain the better anti-noise performance of Fourier ghost imaging and the higher imaging efficiency of sinusoidal ghost imaging. Since sinusoidal ghost imaging relates the characteristics of image spatial decomposition to traditional ghost imaging, and their expression is equivalent to the expression of orthogonal Fourier transform domain of Fourier ghost imaging, the association of ghost imaging methods in Fourier domain and even in the whole orthogonal transform domain and spatial domain can be generalized. This conclusion may provide a way for associating different kinds of ghost imaging, and it can be hoped that more and more new types of ghost imaging systems will be developed.
