    Abstract: A TiO2 MSM UV photodetector has been extensively researched and exhibits many good properties such as stability and a large ratio of light to dark current. However, it suffers from a high dark current and slow response and recovery. In this work, an MSM UV photodetector based on a TiO2/PbTiO3 heterojunction was fabricated by a sol-gel method. Spontaneous polarization of ferroelectric perovskite PbTiO3 can deplete carriers and accelerate the separation and transport of photo-generated carriers. The photodetector showed enhanced performances, including an ultra-low dark current (1.146 19 × 10−11 A), an improving ratio of light to dark current, as well as short response and recovery times (decreasing to 65 and 81 ms). These results indicate the potential in the combination of ferroelectric perovskite PbTiO3 with traditional wide bandgap semiconductor materials to fabricate high-performance UV photodetectors.

    Abstract: In response to the serious problem of backflow in valveless piezoelectric pumps, this paper proposes a valveless piezoelectric pump with a bullhorn-shaped structure. In this paper, we analyze the flow guide by using the “tail flow space pressure comparison method” and “fluid unit dynamic analysis method,” revealing the working principle of the flow guide in the valveless piezoelectric pump. The effects of the height, sharp angle, and filter angle of the bullhorn-shaped structure on the output flow were investigated separately by the experiment. The experimental results show that the output flow rate is best when the height of the bullhorn structure is 2 mm, the choke of the bullhorn-shaped structure is 2, and the sharp angle and fillet angle are 180°. The output flow rate of this valveless piezoelectric pump can reach 170.6 ml/min at a drive voltage of 210 V and a drive frequency of 45 Hz, indicating that the valveless piezoelectric pump has good pumping capability and can effectively alleviate the backflow phenomenon. This study offers some valuable insights into improving its performance and practical application.

    Abstract: Nanocrystalline TiO2 thin films were prepared by sol-gel method and were then used to fabricate metal-semiconductor-metal ultraviolet photodetectors with Au Schottky contact. It was found that dark current of the fabricated devices was only 1.9nA at 5V applied bias. High responsivity of 199A∕W was achieved when it was irradiated by the ultraviolet light (λ=260nm). The low dark current and high responsivity maybe attributed to the effect of Schottky barrier in company with neutral semiconductor owing to the wide finger gap of 20μm. The devices show a slow time response with a rise time of 6s and a decay time of 15s. The authors deduced that the slow time response was caused by defect traps which were widely distributed in nanocrysal.

    Abstract: In this letter, metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) TiO2 ultraviolet (UV) detectors with Ni electrodes have been fabricated. TiO2 thin films were prepared by sol-gel method. At 5 V bias, the dark current of the detector with Ni electrode was 1.83 nA. High photoresponse of 889.6 A/W was found under irradiation of 260 nm UV light, which was much higher than those of other wide bandgap UV detectors with MSM structure. The high photoresponse was due to the great internal gain caused by the hole trapping at interface. The rise time of the device was 13.34 ms and the fall time was 11.43 s.

    Abstract: A Bradbury-Nielsen gate (BNG) is often used to modulate ion beams. It consists of two interleaved and electrically isolated sets of wires with uniform tension, which ideally keep parallel, equidistant, and coplanar over a wide temperature range, making the BNG reliable and robust. We have previously analyzed the non-uniformity problem of wire tensions with sequentially winding method and developed a template-based transfer method to solve this problem. In this paper, we introduced a progressively reduced pretension method, which allows directly and sequentially fixing wires onto the substrate without using a template. Theoretical analysis shows that by applying proper pretension to each wire when fixing it, the final wire tensions of all wires can be uniform. The algorithm and flowchart to calculate the pretension sequence are given, and the fabrication process is introduced in detail. Pretensions are generated by weight combination with a weaving device. A BNG with stainless steel wire and a printed circuit board substrate is constructed with this method. The non-uniformity of the final wire tensions is less than 2.5% in theory. The BNG is successfully employed in our ion mobility spectrometer, and the measured resolution is 33.5 at a gate opening time of 350 μs. Compared to the template-based method, this method is simpler, faster, and more flexible with comparable production quality when manufacturing BNGs with different configurations.
