Abstract: Effects of phosphorus doping level in the polycrystalline silicon (polysilicon) layer of unannealed as well as annealed WSi2.6−polysilicon composite films on the growth kinetics of the tungsten silicide have been investigated by analyses of growth rate of the thermal oxide, depth profiles, and microstructures of the polycide cross section. The behaviors of excess silicon in the tungsten silicide layer during annealing and oxidation as well as the oxidation mechanisms of the silicon-rich tungsten silicide have also been studied. For the unannealed tungsten polycides, the activation energy of the linear rate constant decreases with an increase in the phosphorus doping level while the parabolic rate constant is independent of the phosphorus concentration. For annealed tungsten polycides, however, both rate constants are doping level independent. Analysis of the microstructures of the cross section taken by scanning electron microscope clearly indicates that the excess silicon in the silicide layer is consumed first and then the silicon from the underlying polysilicon is consumed during oxidation.

Abstract: We report the synthesis and characterization of a new ternary molybdenum pnictide superconductor, Cs2Mo3As3. The powder x-ray diffraction analysis reveals the quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) hexagonal crystal structure formed by Cs+ and infinite (Mo3As3)2− chains as indicated by the wire-like grain morphology. Electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility characterizations exhibit superconductivity with the onset transition temperature at 11.5 K, which is the highest in all Q1D superconductors reported so far. An upper critical magnetic field of about 61.7 T at zero temperature was extrapolated from the resistivity measurement under a magnetic field, which is much higher than the Pauli paramagnetic limit, and the reason for such a high upper critical field may lie in its unconventional nature of superconducting pairing symmetry. The discovery of Cs2Mo3As3 inspires the search for new superconductors for future high field applications.

Abstract: The conventional tuned mass damper (TMD) has the defect of a narrow tuning band in the stability control of a floating wind turbine (FWT). In this paper, a hybrid vibration reduction method of tuned mass damper-nonlinear energy sink (TMD-NES) is proposed, which makes full use of the broadband advantage of NES and can effectively avoid its initial energy sensitivity disadvantage. A FWT dynamics model with TMD-NES was established, the complex variable average method was used to solve the dynamic response of the system, and the Runge–Kutta method is used to prove the reliability of the analytical method. The bifurcation characteristics of NES and the vibration suppression effect of TMD-NES are analyzed and discussed. The results show that the proposed method reduces the peak energy of the tower surge response by 95.3%, broadens the frequency band of vibration reduction, reduces the sensitivity to the initial energy, and improves the robustness of the system.

Abstract: We propose a double-layered gold film structured with U-shaped aperture in chiral configuration to manipulate the polarization of transmitted light. Two U-shaped aperture arrays are fabricated on both gold films separated by a spacing film, where each face-to-face pair of apertures is arranged perpendicularly to each other in counterclockwise or clockwise. Due to the coupling of the pairs, surface plasmon polariton resonances in the double-layered films in phase and out of phase at two frequencies, respectively. The polarization of transmitted light is rotated 90° by switching the chiral configuration of the doubled-layered gold film between counterclockwise and clockwise. The double-layered gold film structured with apertures tailors the polarization state of the transmitted light at their resonance peaks relative to their complementary structures. These results provide us an effective way to realize an extraordinary transmission and manipulate the polarization state of a double-layered films in chiral configuration.

Abstract: We investigated the high-order harmonic generation (HHG) process of diatomic molecular ion H2+ in non-Born-Oppenheimer approximations (NBOA). The corresponding three-dimensional time-dependent Schrödinger equation is solved with arbitrary alignment angles. It is found that the nuclear motion can lead to spectral modulation of HHG in both the tunneling and multiphoton ionization regimes. The universal redshifts of the whole spectrum are unique in molecular HHG. The spectral width of HHG increases in NBOA. We calculated possible influences on redshifts of HHG in real experimental conditions and found that redshifts decrease with the increase of alignment angles of the molecules and are sensitive to the initial vibrational states. It can be used to extract the ultrafast electron-nuclear dynamics and image molecular structure. It will be instructive to related experiments.

Abstract: A tip-enhanced Raman instrument was set up based on a homemade optical fiber Raman head, a dispersive spectrograph, and a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) system. Electrochemical preparation of tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) Au tips was refined by using the etching current as ending point control, resulting in a success rate as high as 90%. The high quality Au tips allow the recording of STM images with molecular resolution and TERS spectra of nonresonant surface species on a single-crystal surface.

Abstract: Offshore wind turbines will be developed from shallow water to deep water to meet the rapid growth of wind power generation. Floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) faces complex load challenges, which endanger its safety and service life. Hence, it is urgent to develop a novel damping device to improve the stability of FOWT. In this paper, a novel extended tuned mass damper (ETMD) is proposed. On this basis, a linear quadratic regulator is added to realize the design and simulation of the extended active tuned mass damper (EATMD) control system to reduce the surge response of FOWT. Numerical analysis shows that under the control of ETMD, the surge response of the tower is reduced by 73%, and the frequency modulation width is increased by 55%. Here, under the control of EATMD, the displacement, velocity, and acceleration of the surge response of the tower are decreased by 47.0%, 30.7%, and 24.2%, respectively.

Abstract: Using the terahertz time-domain spectroscopy, the complex refraction index and dielectric function of the pure 2,4,6-trinitro-1,3,5-trihydroxybenzene (TNPG) are calculated with the obtained parameters of the pure polyethylene (PE) and a mixture of TNPG and PE based on the Bruggeman effective medium theory. The theoretical investigation consistent with the experimental data in the vibration spectra of TNPG is presented in the range of 0.2–2.5THz. The results reveal that the two absorption features identified as the fingerprint of TNPG in our studied range are mainly dominated by the intramolecular collective vibration modes.

Abstract: We report the design, simulation, and measurement of a magnetic-type metamaterial absorber with needlepoint-shape pattern in the microwave region. Experimental result shows that the needlepoint-shape pattern expands the absorption bandwidth of the magnetic absorber by more than 65%, which is related to the LC resonances. Different from the non-magnetic metamaterial absorber, the power loss in the proposed absorber is dominated by magnetic loss. The dielectric loss and magnetic loss are both strengthened by the metamaterial resonance. The absorber has applications in the area of eliminating microwave energy.

Abstract: The surface discharge of silicone rubber (SIR) is one of the main reasons to accelerate the aging of its surface material in power systems. It is known that static water droplets on the SIR surface can make the flashover voltage substantially fall, while the flashover characteristics of water droplets impacting the SIR surface are unknown. In this work, the dynamic flashover characteristics of the water droplets impacting the SIR surface are studied. When the water droplets impact the SIR surface, they will stretch first and then shrink. The minimum flashover voltage occurs at the moment when the spreading area of the water droplet reaches the maximum, and this flashover voltage drop is nearly 1.8 times that of the static water droplet. When the water droplet begins to shrink, the bright arc first turns into a filament-like arc and then disappears as the water droplet continues to shrink. At the same time, when the droplet falls at a large height, the water droplet will be broken under the action of electric arc force, and the broken water droplet will likely make the static flashover voltage to further fall.
