    Abstract: Aiming to improve the energy harvesting efficiency under low wind speed, we propose a dual auxiliary beam galloping triboelectric nanogenerator (GTENG) in this work. The structural design of a single main beam and a pair of auxiliary beams enables the device to work under a higher vibration frequency when triggered by wind. A stable and improved working frequency of about 4.6 Hz was observed at various wind speeds. The device started to vibrate at a wind speed of 1.7 m/s and generated an output voltage of about 100 V. The outputs of this GTENG approach to saturation at a wind speed of around 5 m/s. The output voltage and short-circuit current reached 260 V and 20 μA, respectively. A maximum power of about 1 mW was obtained under a wind speed of 5.7 m/s with a load of 33 MΩ. Moreover, the effectivity and long-term stability of the device were demonstrated under low wind speeds. A digital watch is powered for 45 s after charging a 47 μF capacitor for 120 s at a wind speed of 3.1 m/s.

    Abstract: We theoretically and experimentally demonstrate that displacements induced by the spin Hall effect of light are determined by not only the out-plane but also the in-plane spreads of wave vectors when a P-polarized Gaussian beam reflected from an air-glass interface around the Brewster's angle. The decisive impacts of the wave vector spreads are manifested in the dramatic changes of the reflected light intensity distribution when the polarization or the incident angle of the incident beam slightly varies. The experimental displacement data agree well with the theoretical prediction by taking into account of the in-plane spread of wave-vectors.

    Abstract: Low-noise, high-power 532-nm lasers are of great interest in many scientific research studies, such as gravitational wave detection and ultracold atom experiments. In particular, in the experiments of quantum gas microscopy, a large power of laser is necessary during the imaging process, while low noise is important for preventing the atoms from being heated up. In this work, we report on the generation of such a 532-nm continuous-wave laser by coherently combining two laser beams produced by single-pass second-harmonic generation. The power of the combined laser is up to 17 W. With the help of intensity stabilization, we are able to suppress the relative intensity noise to below −120 dBc/Hz. The generated laser satisfies the experimental requirements for integrating optical superlattices with a quantum gas microscope.

    Abstract: A tunable isotropic negative effective permeability is experimentally demonstrated in a three-dimensional (3D) dielectric composite consisting of dielectric ceramic cube arrays by temperature changing. It shows that a strong subwavelength magnetic resonance can be excited in dielectric cubes corresponding to the first Mie resonance mode and can be continuously and reversibly adjusted from 13.65to19.28GHz with the temperature changing from −15to35°C. Accordingly, negative permeability can be performed in the frequency range of about 6GHz by adjusting the temperature. It provides a convenient route to design adaptive metamaterials and 3D invisible cloak.

    Abstract: We report the synthesis and characterization of a new ternary molybdenum pnictide superconductor, Cs2Mo3As3. The powder x-ray diffraction analysis reveals the quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) hexagonal crystal structure formed by Cs+ and infinite (Mo3As3)2− chains as indicated by the wire-like grain morphology. Electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility characterizations exhibit superconductivity with the onset transition temperature at 11.5 K, which is the highest in all Q1D superconductors reported so far. An upper critical magnetic field of about 61.7 T at zero temperature was extrapolated from the resistivity measurement under a magnetic field, which is much higher than the Pauli paramagnetic limit, and the reason for such a high upper critical field may lie in its unconventional nature of superconducting pairing symmetry. The discovery of Cs2Mo3As3 inspires the search for new superconductors for future high field applications.

    Abstract: The magnetization dynamics of an yttrium iron garnet (YIG)/Au/YIG magnon valve was investigated using broadband ferromagnetic resonance. The material characterizations of YIG/Au/YIG were performed using cross-sectional scanning transmission electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction spectroscopy, x-ray photoemission spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and UV–visible spectroscopy. Asymmetric Fano resonance in the YIG/Au (60 nm)/YIG magnon valve structure was observed experimentally, and the two coupled oscillators model was used to describe the source of the Fano resonance qualitatively. We also provide a quantitative description of the Fano resonance and extract the Fano factor, which is an important feature that can be used to define the interaction sign. This represents the first attempt to apply the Fano resonance to magnetization dynamics. The spin wave resonance modes excited by the Au nanoparticles (NPs) surface plasmons were also observed in a YIG/Au NPs/YIG structure. Our findings confirm the occurrence of magnetic Fano resonance in the YIG/Au/YIG magnon valve and pave the way toward the development of quantum information devices based on magnon valves.

    Abstract: Effects of multiple nonlinear Compton scattering on electrons in ultra-strong fields are described using analytic formulas similar to those in the theory of multiple bremsstrahlung. Based on these analytic formulas, a new pure quantum effect of multiple nonlinear Compton scattering called quantum peak splitting is identified: the electron peak splits into two when the average number of nonlinear Compton scatterings per electron passes a threshold of 5.1 and is below 9. Quantum peak splitting stems from the discreteness of quantum radiation reaction, with one of the split peaks being formed by electrons emitting zero to three times and the other by electrons emitting four or more times. This effect provides a new mechanism for the formation of electron peaks, imposes a new beamstrahlung limit on future colliders, and corrects the picture of quantum radiation reaction. Experiments can be performed on lasers with intensities ≳1021 W/cm2, which are reachable on PW-scale facilities.

    Abstract: The forced translocation of a polymer chain through repulsive nanopores was studied by using Langevin dynamics simulations. The polymer is in the compact globule state at low temperature and in the random coil state at high temperature. Simulation results show that the mean translocation time 〈τ〉 is highly dependent on the temperature T and the minimal 〈τ〉 is located near the coil-globule transition temperature. Moreover, the scaling behaviors 〈τ〉 ∼ Nα and 〈τ〉 ∼ F−δ are studied, with N the polymer length and F the driving force inside the nanopore. Universal values α = 1.4 and δ = 0.85 are observed for the polymer in the random coil state. While for the polymer in the compact globule state, α decreases from α = 2 at weak driving to 1.2 at strong driving for short N and δ increases with decreasing T in the low F region, but we find universal exponents α = 1.6 for long N and δ = 0.85 in the large F region. Results show that polymer’s conformation plays a much more important role than the diffusion coefficient in controlling the translocation time of the polymer chain.

    Abstract: The absent critical thickness of fully relaxed asymmetric ferroelectric tunnel junctions is investigated by first-principles calculations. The results show that PbTiO3 thin film between Pt and SrRuO3 electrodes can still retain a significant and stable polarization down to thicknesses as small as 0.8 nm, quite unlike the case of symmetric ferroelectric tunnel junctions. We trace this surprising result to the generation of a large electric field by the charge transfer between the electrodes caused by their different electronic environments, which acts against the depolarization field and enhances the ferroelectricity, leading to the reduction, or even complete elimination, for the critical thickness.

    Abstract: The escape of polymer chains from an attractive channel under external electrical field is studied using dynamical Monte Carlo method. Though the escaping process is nonequilibrium in nature, results show that the one-dimensional diffusion theoretical model based on the equilibrium assumption can describe the dependence of the average escaping time (τ0) on the polymer–channel interaction (ɛ), the electrical field (E), the chain length (n), and the channel length (L), qualitatively. Results indicate that both ɛ and E play very important roles in the escaping dynamics. For small ɛ, the polymer chain moves out of the channel continuously and quickly. While for large ɛ, the polymer chain is difficult to move out of long channels as it is trapped for a long time (τtrap) when the end segment is near the critical point xC. These results are consistent with the theoretical results for the free energy profiles at small ɛ and large ɛ, respectively. The dependence of xC and τtrap on ɛ and E are discussed, and specific relations are obtained. The configurational properties of polymer chain are also investigated during the escaping process.
