1. An attempt is made to calculate the changes in intensity of scattered light due to partial orientation, when the scattering particles are rod-shaped dipols in an electric field. For the case in which the direction of the field is identical with the median between the direction of the incident beam and the direction of observation, the relative decrease in intensity of the scattered light will be s2χ2/270. For the case in which the field is perpendicular to the median (i.e., in the “mirrorplane”), a relative increase of intensity of s2χ2/540 will result; \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$ {\rm s} = 2\,\pi ({\rm L}/\lambda)2\,\sin \vartheta /2,\quad x = {\rm D}\,E/k\,{\rm T} $$\end{document}.
